Well I kind of like watching MLG games to see how they play, or just watch their games in general to see if there's some sneaky trick that I never even considered.
Not as a sport, but off the top of my head Rock Band, Call of Duty, Halo, Split Second, and a few others are games ive had fun spectating and playing with my mates. Good Party games to have fun as a group with. Plus the Kinect and Wii are really emphasis that.
while i will agree that certain parts of those games are very entertaining to watch, i think that they are too few and far between to actually want to watch match after match just to see a few cool parts. and i will admit that rock can be fun to watch, it's not really the game that is enjoyable, it's the song. there really isn't anything watching the game being played that adds to the experience.
I follow the WoW Arena Tourney's pretty closely. But it's a pretty bad spectator game if you haven't played WoW...heck even if you play WoW it can be boring with how some comps work out. Like 45 minute warrior/warlock/druid mirror matches. For the bad, there has been some pretty intense amazing moments over the past 2 years of tournaments.
That said, MLG dropped WoW from their last event and aren't doing it at their events until Blizzard becomes clear on their e-sports director(arena or rated BGs).
I support the idea fully. A well-made multiplayer game is no less legitimate competition than any other sport. There is absolutely no reason why it should not be recognized as such.
