So I'm a bit of a freelance writer. I'm interested in what my fellow gamers would like to see as a plot for a book. I'm into fantasy, fiction, science fiction and...I cannot write historic fiction. I just can't.

So just give me some ideas for story plots and maybe a few characters. I don't plagiarize, so expect to see credit where it is due.

And it seems I'm usually on here asking people for their creative ideas. Hmmm.

A good idea to play around with is a pre/post-apocalyptic world, be it from aliens, robots, mythical creatures, government incompetence, or whatever.

Just put yourself in the situation and twist the scenarios around until you get something you like. If you like it, it's easier to write about.
You could also try to get inspiration from other stories.

If you really have enough time and pressed for a subject you could go to tvtropes.org and search up a few ideas, but you may never be able to stop clicking. Here's a few to get you going.

I have that same problem. Historic stuff is so boring for me. The setting is all already set up and you can't really do what you want with it. But for an idea, you could do something related to 2012. Not the actual event, but the way people act. Like, mobs and riots and murders and thefts as the date gets closer and people start to freak out. You could show how different people handle it differently, like one guy not leaving his house while another goes out killing.

I have to admit, I'm fond of <a href=pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FairytaleMotifs>fairy tale motifs myself.

What my perfect plot isn't is constantly subverted, excessive angst and dragging on the boring bits. What I like to see is a plot that doesn't take it
Ummm.... I'm really trying not to reference popular fiction or TVTropes rtoo much for the author's creative sake, even though I wouldn't consider anything borrowed from TVTropes to plagirized.

Okay, my hero is generic enough for me to project part of myself onto without being bland. He will always do what's right. He isn't too serious (i.e. he makes jokes and has fun).

I favour fast-paced high-energy plots with care taken in the endings.

Ahhh... It's complicated. <a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheZerothLawOfTropeExamples>You can't really do anything that hasn't been done before, so you should really write what you feel. Personally I look for tropes that relate back to my favourite shows on TVTropes, but even if you just took you favourite shows as examples <a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OlderThanDirt>I'm pretty sure no one could be sure exactly what your inspiration was.

I'll be honest and say I am an absolute sucker for Dystopia fiction. Things like a religious political party getting into power as society is under economic struggles, them blaming it on immoral behaviour and immigrants. They get into power and the main protagonist is someone who suddenly gets shoved into the rebel faction.

Plus, I love the idea of them confronting to only find out that all the evil they were fighting a "necessary evil to combat the greater evil".

Try to kill off the protagonist at the end, but make his death worth it towards his effort.
Also make the supporting cast very likable(I find this makes a book more enjoyable)

Other than that I have no advice.
Good luck though!

You wouldn't believe how many times this has been done badly. I can't even name a single time it happened and it didn't end up cheesy as hell.

I don't think i have a perfect plot. I'm not much of a writer, even really basic stories are better than anything i come up with :p

If pulled off right it can be very powerful.
I really can't think of an example off the top of my head, but it's been done well before.

Oh, oh, today my friends and I came up with an idea. What if instead of being wiped out by a meteor, the dinosaurs were wiped out by a caveman who figured out the GTA cheat code that makes a tank fall out of the sky?

DOO EET.

Charming.

I'm writing a short story, which I don't know it is any good but it is basically set in some Big Brother state where a bored secret state police officer decides to see if he can break the system and commit the perfect murder.

I like stories of loners. People who are by themselves, whether on a journey to find themselves, running from something, or just getting away. Eventually they find new friends, new journeys, or go batshit insane, either way the stories can be good. The Dark Tower series to name an example.

My uncle, when he was 20-something years old, goes up a mountain every month or so to trade with a village there that sells his favorite coffee beans. One day, however, he just happened to have traveled up the mountain when the government army laid siege to the mountain, and were preparing to raid it for communist guerrilla fighters. Since he fit the description of most guerrilla fighters (poor, young, callused hands, and a good build), he was sure to be executed if the army captured him. So he joined the guerrillas and fled with them.

No one knows exactly what happened during the time he was away, but he turns up at his home about a year later malnourished, dirty, and carrying 8 cages with birds in them. Rumor has it, though, that he did get captured, deported to China, and somehow made his way back. Mind you, this happened in the 1970s, and my country was ruled with by a dictator and was practically in civil war. So take that story however you will. But I'm hoping that the story inspires you, and it would definitely interest me to fill in the gaps of my uncle's adventure. Take whatever liberties you want with this.
