I have been playing a lot of MW2 lately and it just occurred to me, "Why the hell did they even include the red perks, cause no one even uses anything but stopping power." I sometimes feel that I am one of the only players who does not like using it. I would want Stopping power to either always be equipped or to just take it out of the game entirely. So there will be more variety in each game other than 2 shotting any moving object with a pistol.

My question to you is,

What other in game objects/perks/weapons/anything, have you noticed and wonder "why the hell did they even both to include these (or anything else because of these)." And how would like it changed.

(Can be from any game!!)

That damn swamp in Demon's Souls. I know it is there to challenge your tactics but it is annoying as hell.

Edit: Oh and the flashback bit in the latest Splinter Cell, just why?

Underwater sections.
Escort missions.
Not a person alive will disagree with either of these.

The crappy pistol... you know the one, with like 20 shots per clip does the worst damage in the entire game and the one the devo forces you to use for 20 or so levels...

the sewer part in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (the one where you actually walk through a sewer, not the small water cleaning building you walk through...)

You literally walk into a sewer... and walk to the other side and get out. oh, along the way, you have to pull down a lever in order to open the door to get out of the sewer. however, nothing storyline significant happened, no side plots which send my phone voice-mail/text messaged explaining a creepy side story... nothing. I guess i could say the same about a few of the corridoors in school, but its not quite the same. a "sewer level" seems to be a notorious thing which has to be included in a Horror game. usually though thats because they are scary with things jumping out at you (which isn't scary... its startling) or there is something chasing you through it.
But... the sewer section wasn't scary at all. no creepy music, no background noises, so i wasn't even anxious and paranoid about something scary happening, getting really wound up then realising that nothing happened... then when you are offguard something happens, making you more anxious the next time!! (this is probably my favourite method of instilling fear, why i am scared of something scary happening... unfortunatly, this also includes sneaking and being seen causing the alerted sound to be played in Metal Gear Solid ;p)

So the sewer level was worse than the pointless corridoors because it seemed like ticking off a checklist of "mandatory sections in a horror game", but not doing a good job of it, as if they were reluctant. if you're so reluctant, then why not just throw the concept in the bin!

anyway, rant over

Fallout 3's "Here and now" perk didn't make a hell of a lot of sense to me.

You level up: Yay -- Oh wait, enemies level with you (To an extent)
You get to pick another perk! Wait... You would've been able to do this when you levelled, and you could've just picked this perk then.

Just seems like kind of a waste.

mass effect 2's sniper rifels...the srong one only carries like 8 shots and the 28 shot one uses an entire clip to kill one enemy let alone the fact that opposition usually runs blindly at you completley negating a distant battle. They should either put in enemy snipers or throw out the idea.

(yes I know you can meet snipers but they charge at you for some reason.)

My UMP45 would like to have a chat with you.

OT: auto-levelling enemies.
Well do you use stopping power, and if so your only proving my point :)

The "special" weapons in GUN - the 7-Barrel Knock shotgun and the experimental "Knock" cannon. These, along with Reverend Reid's horse, are all unlocked after the main storyline has finished and so can't really be used on anything other than the odd bandit or wildlife. Well, not unless you want to turn into Big Bill Bonkers and kill anyone who comes into view.

I also agree with Necator15 when he/she says that the "here and now" perk in Fallout 3 is a tad pointless. I would also add that the perk "No Weakness" is pretty lame too. The "Almost Perfect" perk on the other hand...

The .32 pistol in Fallout 3.

It's worse than the 10mm you start with and are found absolutely everywhere early on, and it is a waste of a very useful type of ammo.

Not as bad as the Chinese pistol though...

This may not come as a suprise, but I'd like to adjust the detective tendancies of the armored enforcers of order and Peace in a certain realm of Tamriel. Alter the Strange, creepY Capabilities of tHose sworn to serve sIre's sword in Cyrodil, as it were. Perhaps even go so Far as to say change the Unyeilding Cancer to any who consider KillIng or stealiNg thinGs within a ten mile radius of them. But hell, I guess they can't call dumbing down the AI of GUARDS in Oblivion progress.

That in mind, I wonder why they keep stealth a part of not just oblivion, but any RPG around which sneaking is not already built. (Fable, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Dragon age, etc.) You've seen how it goes, you're given a chasm to pour points in labeled "stealth" in some way, yet out in the field, (figuratively speaking) enemies often spot you as though you were standing in the middle of a field! (literally speaking) It seems that the only time sneaking around works (at least early on) is when you're somewhere the enemy wouldn't have seen or heard you anyway. In Dragon age, I'm told sneaking is not seriously meant for getting the drop on foes, (nevermind your loud, stompy allies) but to walk behind foes a party member is already keeping busy and stab them a bunch. Much in the same way you could just (and a 1, 2, 3)
as a rogue, just grab a bow and shoot your foe in the face,
if you're a fighter, kill the blighter with a really heavy mace,
a wizard shocks, and burns, and freezes, so then warden, if you'd pleases
take your pick and go to war, but leave your "sneaking" at the door.

*ahem* You could just hit them normally, couldn't you?

In short, it's stealth in non-stealth games I wonder about. Shooting, stabbing, and zapping all seem to get the job done, but sneaking is just bumbling around in the dark.

It makes a lot more sense when you're trying to get the last couple of levels up to 30. At that point it just becomes an insane amount of grind to do it the usual way.
