Pretty straight forward question, what is your pet to you? Are you its master or its friend? Do you consider it to be a part of your family or is a pet just a pet to you?

Personally, I consider my dog to be my dog the same way that my brother is my brother. I dont think of myself as his owner or master, Im one of his humans, his friend and, more importantly, his family.

I've got a cat and he is a pain in the arse. In saying that I also have a little sister, and she's an even bigger pain in the arse. I prefer my cat.

Although If anything, he lords it over me.

My cat is named Xavier. He is free spirited and rarely shows his face around here these days and when he does it is very briefly.
Still when he's here he's still very cuddly so there is that going for it.

A year ago today I had to put my beloved pet to sleep. It was the right choice, she was dying and the alternative would have been to let her choke and strangle over the next few hours.

My heart remains broken. She was my companion. I was her guardian. We both loved one another.

To me, my dog is many things:
1) Part of the family (and she argues a lot less than my actual sister does).
2) A friend.
3) An alarm clock in some circumstances.

Sure, I help to look after her, but I don't "own" her.

I have two dogs at the mo- both of 'em strays.

I love them to bits, I'd let them lie on the couch or let them roam around the house but I still have to let them know that I, or my other family members say, is law.

So yes, I do think of them as members/friends......most of the time.

My deepest sympathies. My dog is getting old so well probably have to do the same before the end of the year.

He is my buddy. Someone who keeps me company and somebody who seems to know exactly when I need a cuddle and a bit of love.

Well, my dog and cat are more my parents pets than mine. I suppose I treat them like friends as opposed to a master thing.

My cat, Ruby, is a very independent creature, so much that you couldn't really say we own him, he just decides to live with us.

Our dog, Elsa, however, is just basically a big puppy.

And since you all love cute pictures.

they look nice. Also, are those cows in the background?????

OT: Friends i guess. But they have to be well behaved.

Our golden lab 'nilla is a part of our family. She's cleaner and better behaved than my kids, and deserves thumbs more than most people I know.

well my dog is the black one in my avatar, the white one is my sisters'. Hes my pride and joy kinda like a big hairy baby. But yeah both dogs are considered part of the family. my other pets are my trillions of gold fish, which i consider just as pets and things that make the garden look better. I still care for them though.

Nope, bales of hay.

I live in the middle of the countryside.
Oh that makes much more sense. Was wondering what kind of cows look like that......Seems like a very nice place to live....

I have two dogs. My boyfriend is the leader of their pack, and I am a superior pack member to them.

Reason is, they are two big Belgian Shepherds - natural pack animals and quite dangerous if not trained properly. They can be big sooks, but their sheer size and strength means that we need to let them know who's in charge.

As well, they feel more secure and are happier that way. It doesn't mean we don't love them and spoil them, it just means we have a hierachy of command that makes for safety for both them and us.

It was the right thing to do, I know it and my vet knew it. But I was profoundly attached to that little cat and haven't really stopped sobbing/whimpering since I posted =(
