So yeah, I've been playing around with my food recently and come across a few really easy things to do that take no more than about ten minutes (max).

The whole idea is that I love homecooked stuff but hate:
1, how much mess it makes
2, how much washing up it generates
3, how long it can take to do something awesome

This thread is the antithesis to the things I hate.

Here's a really nice one:

1 - Get two slices of bread.
2 - Grate your favourite cheese on one side.
3 - Spread a fairly generous amount of Green Pesto on the other side.
4 - Get out your George Foreman grill or equivalent and grill that sucker.

That's it! Takes no time and tastes amazing.

Anyone else got some rapid and good tasting ideas?

Block of cheese, slice it up into carrot stick size.
Dip into a pot of marmite or mustard.

Sex on a plate.

Get a pack of super noodles, boil 'em up, then slap 'em in a bowl, grab a couple of slices of bread, distribute the desired amount on said bread, fold in half and enjoy.

I lived off this stuff at university.

Mix eggs and milk. Whack in very hot frying pan. As it cooks beat it about with a spatula. Whack on toast. Mmmmmm scrambled eggs.

Rice, boiling water, frozen vegetables. All in one pot. Drain, mix in chilli sauce and grate some cheese on top. Washing-up generated: a pan, a bowl and cutlery. Time required: 15 minutes.

Pretty healthy, very cheap. College diet.

Well I just tend to make a HUGE batch of pasta or stir fry and then put it in the fridge and microwave some up when I get hungry. People don't use microwaves enough in that way. It takes about 20-25 minutes to make the sauce (I always make my own because I'm awesome) and just over 10 to cook the pasta, so that's 35 if I minimise washing up by using the same saucepan. Pick out a massive bowl and put all the pasta and sauce in there mixed together. One batch will last me 2-3 days.

2 large flat mushrooms, fill them with butter and place them cap side down in a dry pan so the butter isn't touching the pan. Dry fry the cap side and the butter will start to melt in the cup, then flip them over onto the open side full of butter, the butter will run all over the pan and steam cook the inside of the mushrooms, them u get the good roasted nutty flavour on the outside and the warm buttery inside....
serve with pepper and some scrambled egg and toast

The 5 minute mug cake is god.

4 tablespoons of sugar
4 tablespoons of flour
2 tablespoons of cocoa
Now mix in the mug
then add:
an egg
(mix)
a bit of vanilla extract
some milk
a dash of olive oil
(mix)
then 3 minutes in a microwave.

And now your diets will be forever ruined.

Been there, that is one tasty snack when it's ready. I've taken to using the George Foreman for a lot of things. A somewhat similar one to yours is the pizza toastie:

1. Get yourself a half bake (semi-cooked baguette that usually goes in the oven)
2. Cut in half and spread tomato puree over both halves
3. Cut some slices of cheese and put on one of the halves, and sprinkle some mixed herbs over the top
4. (optional) Add some form of meat that you would usually find on a pizza e.g. pepperoni
5. Put it in the George Foreman, and once the cheese starts to melt you're ready to go

Pretty simple snack I used to make a lot when I was in college:

Take some Pita Bread (Not pita pockets) and use them like pizza crusts.

Spread them out on a tray and preheat your oven to 400 degrees. You can use whatever you want for a sauce, pre-made pizza sauce works well, as does pesto, BBQ sauce, and Alfredo Sauce. Top them with whatever you want but make sure that all your toppings are pre-cooked or don't need to be cooked (IE, don't put raw sausage on it, or hard veggies that won't cook quickly). Then cover it with mozzarella cheese (Or experiment) and bake for 10 mins. The Pita crisps up and they're the perfect size for a snack, or have a couple for a meal.

My Favorite Recipes:

Pita
Pepperoni
Pre-Cooked Italian sausage
Pizza Sauce
Mozzarella Cheese

Pita
Shredded Cooked Chicken
BBQ sauce
Mozzarella cheese

Pita
Canned Artichoke Hearts chopped
Pre-Cooked spinach or Fresh Spinach
Alfredo Sauce
Mozzarella Cheese
(You can cheat and use pre-made spinach and artichoke dip)

Pita
Leftover Taco Meat
Refried Beans
Salsa
Mexican Cheese Blend
(Put the refried beans on first, they'll protect the pita from getting soggy)

Pita
Dill Hamburger Pickle Chips
Pizza Sauce
Mozzarella Cheese

That's a fantastic idea. I've not actually ever tried a half bake but I can promise you I'm heading to the shops later. I want to see how this turns out.

I'm so happy I made this post. I also promise you that my next shop load is going to have a look at that bbq chicken one.

This one isn't quick but it's delicious and the actual prep time is like 5 mins.

Get meat that you like, root vegetables, oil, beef stock, and some garlic & herbs (Rosemary, thyme etc.)

Chop into 3-4cm cubes (~1.5 inches).

Put meat into the bottom of a hot pot that's been coated with oil. Brown.

Add the stock, veggies, garlic & herbs. (Garlic can be added with the meat if you want.)

Cover and leave for like 2 hours on a low heat.

Serve with like an entire loaf of buttered bread.

Gives you veggies, meat, grains (If you have good bread), and warms you up. :)

We used to have parties at my place and I'd have like 4 or 5 of my buddies some over to watch a game or something and I'd have tons of the pita bread with like a little station set up with tons of toppings and people could just make there own and we could bake like 10 at a time with the 2 oven racks. If you're brave, you can even put the pizzas directly on the oven racks and they'll crisp even better.

Another one that's a mod of my original (Cheese and pesto toastie) is:

1 - Get two slices of bread.
2 - Slice your favourite cheese on one side and make sure it stacks up like tetris rows.
3 - Spread a sensible amount of Marmite on the 'tetris rows' of cheese you made.
4 - Slap the other slice on top of there.
4 - Get out your George Foreman grill or equivalent and grill that sucker.

Ah, just like mum used to make. Seriously! When money was tight, she amazed me by just throwing some random veg into a pot and 20 minutes later there was this really filling, heartwarming soup/broth. Can never go wrong with bread. Unless you shove it up your backside.

Here's a decent soup formula:

1 - Cube a potato (smaller chunks makes it cook quicker)
2 - Cut up any veg you have or want to throw in (I recommend onion, carrot and celery)
3 - Put it all into a big pot of boiling water (loaded with your favourite stock).
4 - (Optional) Whilst it's boiling, fry some sausages. Cut them in half lengthways then segment them. Then throw them in.
5 - Ensure all veg is cooked or at least how you want it.
6 - Season with Lea & Perrins (not too much).

Nom nom nom.

Another two.

Cut up some mushrooms, onion, and shallots/spring onions (mini leeks ;) ) and put them in a hot pan of melted butter.
Fry until onions are soft and add spinach (fresh, not frozen).
Serve on Vegemite toast.
Garlic can be added to the initial ingredients in the first step.

Vegemite toast.
Cover in cheese.
Grill (as in the grill of the oven)[footnote]or an open sandwich press[/footnote] until golden brown/melted to your preference.
Add tomato sauce/ketchup.

Delicious.

Obviously Marmite, Bovril, or Promite can be used in these rather than Vegemite if you're a big girls blouse.
