My brother and I are heavy into retro-games, like, old-school NES and SNES titles like the orignal Marios, Kirbys, Ghouls'n'Ghosts, just really retro stuff, y'know? Also things that mimic retro-style such as Cave Story and IWBTG. Nothing hits the spot quite like a well-executed old style platformer, shooter, or RPG.

So tell me -- because I want to do as much research into retro games as possible, and because I'm genuinely interested -- what your idea of an iconic retro or retro-style game is, your absolute favorite, and, if possible, where I can find it online to likewise experience the awesome.

I'm looking forward to your opinions! :D

The original Metroid is pretty much the only NES game that could potentially have appeal in today's market.

The old Mega Man games are also good fun.

Lufia, and more specifically Lufia 2 come to mind for me. They are old SNES RPGs, not the greatest for story, but still a lot of fun.

Yeah, 1996 on the NeoGeo. I have the first two on NeoGeo. First one is the best.

Psycho Soldier. 1986.

Someone needs to start playing old-school platformers and a little game called Xevious.

Shoot. If you'd be willing to go for Genesis/Megadrive games, I'd say go for Ristar, Dynamite Headdy (platformers), and Streets of Rage 2 (side-scrolling beat 'em up). Or most of the old Sonic games.

Not all that experienced with the (S)NES consoles.

Earthbound and Mario RPG come to mind.
Super Metroid also.
I'm also kind of partial to the SNES era Megaman games.
And obviously any Mario game that came out in 2D except the American Mario 2.

LOVE Earthbound and Metroid, haven't played Megaman in years.

Never tried Mario RPG, though. Will have to look into it :D
