Every now and then when someone buys a new game and drops it in a console that hasn't been updated for a while, they have to update that console in order to play. A lot of times the system isn't updated for a decent reason. Probably because the person prefers the original settings.

Anyways, that update is not always centered around making that person able to play that game. A lot of the time, it just changes everything.

I would prefer only the inability for me to play a game to be changed and the rest of the settings kept the same, or at least that option.

Do you guys actually give a damn? If so, how much of a damn, and what would you change?

(Those of you that utilize the Patapon 2 exploit are probably a bit outraged since firmware 6.30 on the PSP outlaws such from happening, so there is a risk that a new game you buy could be equipped with the forced update)

The only one I really care about is the removal of backwards compatibility on the PS3. I was going to get an older and cheaper model before I found out that to play online you can't play PS2 games, which seems like a rip-off and a completely transparent scheme of getting you to buy the same game twice.

At first I hated the 360 changes, thinking what the fuck is the apple-esqe shit but recently I looked back at the old design, the blades system, and glad they did change it. It looks ugly and dated. One thing I do hate about the 360 forced update is that you have to look at ads before you can get to what you want.

I gave a tiny damn yesterday when I had to wait a full 6 minutes for TF2 to update. I don't have a console but I doubt I would give it much thought if I did. It is usually for the better but like Fire Daemon said the removal of backwards compatibility and other OS is a bit of a rip-off for PS3 owners.

I'm still pissed that Steam updated my do-not-update Plants Vs Zombies. I don't have much motivation to even screw around on it now. Fucking MJ's attorneys.

The only forced updates I give a shit about are Windows ones. The kind that say, "Oh hai, we have these updates here, so we're gonna shut down your computer in about 5 minutes."

Unfortunately it doesn't make a noise when such a reminder pops up, so I tend to be in game a lot, and then suddenly have my computer shut down.

I hate them. As I use mobile broadband through Verizon, I have a slow connection and limited vandwidth, so any update takes up valuable bandwidth, and an excessive amount of time.

I get tired of them since they don't seem to change much and really most of the time it's updating to find and ban moded devices, be it console or smart phone.

I prefer the old 360 layout with the blades. It was smooth and polished. This new layout is just a copy of the Wii with it's avatars. Cursed forced updates.

Never had a problem with it. Most of the time updates are done to solve problems.

I didn't like the new Steam UI at first, but I've grown to love it far and above the old Steam overlay.

People hate change even when it's for the better. It's why democracy just doesn't work.

9/10 though, those updates and patches FIX major issues and are for the better. The people that really complain are the ones that have gotten used to exploiting bugs to win. In my experience after these patches are released, it weeds out all those exploiters and leaves behind everyone else who actually wants to play the game and get better in a now more balanced environment.

Sometimes though it's for legal reasons like the aforementioned PvsZ, but what can you do?

I'm ok with them as long as they make it better. For example Bad Company 2 has recently had a couple to sort out some issues and add a few bits.

However, I had a HUGE shock though when I stuck Burnout Paradise into my 360 the other day. Nearly 2GB for an update!! I took it back to the shop in the end because my connection is so bad and I thought it would be quicker to walk then wait.

lolol i fucking hate those, your always in an intense game with a boss or something when that pops up and slows down the game immensely as it goes down into the taskbar and i end up going "AH FUCKKKK" and open it back up right as im dying.
