For those of you who don't know what that is. Jurassic Bark is an episode of Futurama known for having one of the most misty eyed endings of any cartoon in the history of forever. I won't spoil anything, you can track down the episode yourself.

For me, it's actually my least favorite episode of Futurama. A lot of Futurama fans treat me like I'm some sort of monster for thinking that, and they just assume that I feel that way because of the ending but...that's really not it. I mean yeah, My eyes water up a bit at the ending, but the same for Time Keeps on Skipping, Luck of the Fryrish, and Leela's Homeworld, and to me those are all superior episodes.

Ending aside, I just didn't really think it was that good of an episode. It didn't really have a lot of laughs in it to me or memorable quotes. The two main things that stand out to me are the ending and Leela's...sparing outfit >_>

What are your thoughts on that particular episode? (and feel free to share stories of your own least favorite episode as well.)

EDIT: Just want to point out, that I totally agree it was an amazing ending. I don't want that to be misinterpreted. The ending was amazing, and something you usually see in a film, rarely in a half hour animated show. The ending itself was unbelievable, I just wasn't that fond of the rest of the episode.

Its got one of my favorite Futurama jokes ever (the dance of Fry's people, and all that part involves), and one of the saddest moments in any animated show I've ever watched. Overall, one of my favorite episodes, beaten out by "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings".

I don't watch that episode if I can. Or any of the aforementioned episodes, once and done. Why feel like shit again and again for no reason when I have such better emotions to feel like

*sniff* That is truly one of the best executed pieces of animation I have ever seen. I have watched this a thousand times and it never fails to nearly bring me to tears. I determine art by something that makes me feel something and this qualifies. I can't comment on how it stacks up to other episodes, but I can honestly say I don't watch this in front of people I do not want to see me cry.

I makes me tear up every single time. Its the same if not worse with Luck of the Fryrish. I've had a lot of experience with sibling rivalry, but I've never been all that attached to pets.

I think it's fine for a comedy show to have a sad episode or two, as long as they break it up with funny bits and they don't do it all the time. This was not the case with futurama, and if you don't like the episode then who cares? No matter how good a series is they will have a few poor episodes.

Not many things make me cry, but Jurassic Bark is truly moving. I was so surprised when I first saw it, that a cartoon could stir up emotions that deep. I love that episode.

ha ha I thought that this post was going to be about the film Jurassic Park and that you spelled it wrong and I was going to post "so... were not talking about an episode of Futurama?" To answer you're question, that ending always brought a tear to my eye as well, this show does an excellent job of making things serious when they need to be, showing both the joys in life as well as the repercussions of not knowing what has happened to those that you love and the separation from a life you once knew. Both Fry and Leela both come from pasts shrouded in uncertainty and loss, but realize what being in the future and living above ground (respectively) has given them a rebirth of sorts, I also belive that this is why the two characters are so attracted to each other. Also what are you're thoughts on the more recent epidsode "Lethal Inspection", Im torn as too whether or not Bender can really be a character we pity as much as we do Fry and Leela (though the first time I saw the ending, I cried just a little)

There are only two episodes of Futurama I *really* don't like, this one and Luck of the Fryrish, because they both make me cry, every time.

Yeah, it's all in the ending. Which was so good they had to retcon it away. Meh.

It's got two of the funniest jokes in the series for me.

Fry: I will now do the dance of my native people! *puts music and dances the hustle*
Leela: It says here that the native New Yorker would dance in hopes of rain, or a new GTO...

and

*everyone offering to jump into the Earth's core with Farnsworth reminding them that it's molten lava and they would die until it culminates with*
Farthsworth: PROFESSOR. LAVA. HOT!

And I tear up every time I see that ending. [sub]every damn time...T~T[/sub] Although they did attempt to retcon it in the movie...

I've actually always enjoyed this particular episode. The writing actually really stands out for me.

One other great episodes for me is "the devil's hands are idle playthings". The whole episode is extremely creative and witty (like any other futurama episode) but I really enjoy the whole faustanian undertones and the musical bits.

I can't watch the ending. It just tugs at the heart strings. I get all misty-eyed and sad. One of the better episodes, but still so damn sad.

We've had threads on this episode before. Weird...usually whole TV shows don't even get one thread. I know I've never seen a thread on The Wire or Breaking Bad (which is a mind-blowingly awesome show and I'm so excited that season 4 is going to start soon).

Anyway...yeah, that episode made me tear up too. I watched it while my dog was sleeping in my lap. I'm a huge dog lover, so it's not surprising that the episode got to me.

Ha ha, sorry everyone, I didn't mean to bring up pet hugging desires.

Oddly enough, after making this topic I decided to watch Volume 5 again and I remember that Jurassic Bark isn't actually my least favorite episode after all.

Attack of the Killer App takes that crown lol.

But yeah, I admire Jurassic Bark for what it set out to accomplish, and for what it did. It brought a different idea to the show and well...as you can tell from reading most of the posts here, it hit home. Whether you like the episode or not, it's certainly one of the most memorable.
