So I was reading yatzhee's thoughts on leveling in reverse, I thought the idea was interesting but ultimatley flawed as you play a game to progress and gain rewards as you go along. the thought then occured to me that positively leveling is also a bad system. All you do is level up so you can fight increasingly harder monsters.
I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I like the leveling system in COD because everyone is on a even playing field from the offset with beginners having some really good preset classes. The leveling doesn't make you anymore powerful but instead provides more variety. In my opinion the standard leveling system is cheap an unbalanced, its always annoyed me how a player with less skill (but has been playing longer) can beat a new player with a lot of skill.
