final fantasy 10, amazing story in depth characters, great FMV's and good gameplay, and alot to work towards unlocking like secret weapons and new summons.
final fantasy 12, good story, good depth of characters good FMV's and AMAZING gameplay, kept me emersed for months and months, i could go back now and do it all again.
call of duty modern warfare 2, it just kept me on the edge of my seat, every mission there was was something to go THAT WAS FUCKING AWSOME, graphics were simply the best realistic ive ever seen in gameplay, and i loved all the characters in the game, voice acting was AMAZING.

Fallout 3
Any Grand Theft Auto Games (specifically 4 and it's DLC)
God of War 2
Bonus: Portal is a close forth.
Bonus 2: Mass Effect would be on here as it sounds like it would be good but my shitty computer won't play it.

Let me think for a minute...
(in no particular order)

1) Final Fantasy VI. Best game in the series so far (7, X, and Tactics were close), incredible characterization and character development even with a cast of over a dozen. ...not to mention being incredibly fun.

2) No More Heroes 1/2. I count them together because 2 felt like an expansion to 1, and was equally awesome, in my opinion. What can I say? Lightsabers, over the top action, ridiculous superpowers, and the endings... heh. Plus it didn't take itself so dead serious (to the point of becoming campy in some places) like Star Wars does.

3) God of War 1. Yeah, 2 and 3 had more weapons, more impressive graphics and killings... but the original had something the other 2 didn't: character development. Kratos actually learns something about himself by the end of God of War, but in 2 and 3 he's nothing more than a ball of rage, rampaging and murdering everything that moves for no real reason other than "because it's there." (My feelings are explained quite well in this Extra Credits video [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/1946-No-Redeeming-Value].

Speaking of learning something about oneself... This thread made me realize I play a lot more multi-player games than I thought... odd.
Of those (also in no particular order):
Diablo 2
Guild Wars
Super Mario Brothers 3

Onyx Oblivion

Borderlands Addict. Again.

Fallout 3, Mass Effect (series) and Batman: Arkham Asylum. One of those has a sequel coming soon, another with a sequel announced and in development, and the third will definitely have a sequel.

happy face :)

Bioshock
Red Dead Redemption
Mass Effect 2

And that's just of this console generation.
Further back, there's games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Halo: Combat Evolved and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Oh boy, do I love a good singleplayer experience.

I'm only gonna do this gen because if I didnt it'd take me too long to think of anything.

Oblivion
Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy XIII

Those are my favourite single player games of this gen, not in any order.

In order-- Knights of the Old Republic, Tales of Symphonia, and... Well, that's where it gets tough. The last spot could easily be taken by The World Ends With You, Okami, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock, Star Fox Adventures, one of the original Spyro games, or an entry in the Metal Gear Solid series. And seriously just after typing that I realize that it is not any of those games. Donkey Kong 64 takes the final spot.

And, uhh... Robbie McLennan? I believe I may have just incidentally reported you. As I was typing, my arm slid across on my laptop's mousepad and it landed right on the "Report" thingy. Erm... I apologize for that if any harm was done.

EDIT: Heavy Rain's another great one.

Tombraider 2 - No surprises here... but this game is and always will be the BEST 3rd person action adventure ever made. This game takes you across the globe, has you traverse through huge levels, take on ridiculous enemies from dobermans to an Abominable snowman, completing clever puzzles and platforming sections and gives you a tasty array of weaponry for dishing out the punishment.
And the Uncharted games don't and won't even come close to this level of awesome.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - My first MGS and IMO quite possibly the best. If you get past moaning about Raiden then this game is phenomenal. The amount of effort that has been put into this game is staggering, from the voice acting to the set pieces the game is brilliant. Plus it has the most secrets and hilarious codec messages than any other MGS.

Final Fantasy VII - Just read what OP said he sums it up fairly well. :)
