The new year of 2015 is coming to a close. (YEY!!!) Have you guys made your resolutions yet? Hahaz.. Anyways, 2014 was the year which welcomed the new generation of gaming with the releases of the Wii U, Xbox One and the PS4, and also there were quite a number of awesome gaming titles which came out as well! So, to welcome the new year, why not list down some of your top 5 all time favourite games of 2014!

To start us off, here's my top 5:

1) Dark Souls 2 ( This brings back to me what gaming is all about from the beginning - hard and challenging (what games are supposed to be) , bundled together with the hack and slash gameplay, epic boss battles and luscious graphics, this is undeniably my all time favourite game of 2014)

2) Bayonetta 2 ( The gorgeous witch is back with an all new haircut and the hack and slash mechanics is still as fluid and stylish as ever - you just can't deny with style in hack and slash game. )

3) Killer Instinct ( awesome fighting mechanics, each character having a unique skill set, making it an all around awesome fighting game, MASH THE COMBOS TILL THE END!!!)

4) Super Smash Bros for the Wii U ( One of my all time favourite gaming franchises having an awesome face lift and a new character roster - how awesome is that?!)

5) Mario Kart 8 ( One of , if not the best casual racing games out there, having all new courses, an HD facelift , and the brand new anti-gravity mechanics on the Wii U , and still being a fun game in the end, OMG LOVE IT!!!)

1. Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate. The first game in the Warrior's series I ever played. I bought the game on a whim to wait for Shadow of Mordor to come out, but ended up loving it. I've since bought multiple other Warrior games because of it.

2. Shadow of Mordor. Fantastic combat, fun stealth, and the amazing nemesis system make this game amazing. I've sunk over fifty hours into this game and enjoyed every moment.

3. Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire. Nostalgia filled goodness.

4. Far Cry 4. It's Far Cry 3 with a fresh coat of paint and elephants. Of course it is amazing.

5. Infamous: Second Son. A second playthrough isn't likely, but I did enjoy my first time. Seeing Delsin grow power-wise was a total blast.

1- Alien Isolation: Mostly because you can kill anyone you don't like by exposing him/her to 15 minutes of this game.

2- Pokemon Alpha Sapphire: because nostalgia.

3- Borderlands The Pre-Sequel: Its the Batman Origins of the Borderlands series, but, just as Arkham Origins, its good, just not as good as the second game.

4- Assassin's Creed Unity... hahahaha, no. It's The 40 dollar demo of Metal Gear Solid V. Since a friend convinced me to play Metal Gear Solid 3D i have been obsessed with All things Metal Gear, this is no exception.

5- Bravely Default: Its a 2013 game in japan, but here it came out in february so, its a 2014 game. So, you know, i always considered weird that after they published Final Fantasy 7, Square Enix went straight to publish Final Fantasy 9, and then never published anything ever again. EVER. Its weird that they put out Final Fantasy 8 under this name but, hey, its japan and japan its weird.

1. South Park: The Stick of Truth.
2. Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series.
3. Town of Salem (Got out of beta + Steam release earlier this month).

I will give Dragon Age: Inquisition an honorable mention, but I can't really put it on a top list since I have lost all interest in finishing it for the time being.

I have played more games from 2014, but they're all games that I haven't finished or didn't like, so I won't put them on this list. This was a weak year for gaming as far as I'm concerned.

1. Alien: Isolation - ACTUAL survival horror, yay!
2. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor - Arkham + Assassin's Creed + Tolkien = Yes.
3. Far Cry 4 - Bigger and (kinda) better.
4. This War of Mine - Good concept, good execution, good everything.
5. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! - Fan of Borderlands, nothing new under the sun but the series keeps healthy.

1. Insurgency. Definitely one of the best multiplayer shooters.

2. Shadow of mordor. Dear god killing orcs is fun.

3. Ascendant. A fun rogue like with a great theme.

I don't think i can come up with anything else from this year I played. ED would probably be in the last but I haven't played it. I'd probably put Distance but that's in early access still.

It's been kind of a limp year to be honest. The only new game I really enjoyed was Wolfenstein: The New Order. I haven't tried out Alien: Isolation and Shadow of Mordor yet though, so maybe those might've ratcheted up my opinion a bit had I played them.

Far Cry 4 was kinda okay, but just more of the same with less (if any) narrative context, and a pretty addicting Arena mode. I never bothered finishing the story though.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was a whole lot of nothing, as in 'a whole lot of content that resulted in nothing in particular'.

Abe's Oddysee: New 'n Tasty was the biggest disappointment of the year.

There was Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes which was just a big fat cocktease.

inFamous: Second Son was a weak spin-off.

And then to top it all off there was The Evil Within, and I don't think more needs to be said about that fucking abomination.

I wanna know, did you play this on PS3 or PS4? And if you did on the PS3, was there any noticeable nerfing?

1) Bayonetta 2 - I've sunk in so many hours into the game. It's just very satisfying to go from Stones during my initial play through in Bayo 1 to Platinum in Bayo 2 once I had learned all the different aspects of the game play.
2) Mario Kart 8 - When you get a few friends over it's just brilliant. When I get home from work it's just game I can spend a few hours to unwind.
3) Divinity - My favorite RPG of the year(haven't played DA:I)
4) Dark Souls 2 - Not my favorite Souls game but a top game for 2014 no doubt.
5) DKC: Tropical Freeze - Best Platformer of the year

Disappointment of the year - Civ Beyond Earth, I though it would be able to top Alpha Centauri - but instead it's hardly better than some fan made mods.

Let see-

1- Child of Light. I don't care it had bad poetic dialogue! That game was FANTASTIC!!! Artstyle, gameplay, story and soundtrack!!!

2- Borderlands: The Pre- Sequel. I don't care if it was just a quick cash in and was mainly the same game. I still enjoyed it and that all that matter (I guess I am the target audience)!

3- Super Smash Brother Brawl (3DS). It's still the fun fighting game in handheld form.

4- South Park and the Stick of Truth. I liked it was a parody of rpg while at the same time adding new form to it and with it being South Park and all.

5- Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. Same game and the minor new mechanic (PokeNav) did kept me playing the game alot more than expected!

PS4. I can't confirm for myself the severity of the nerfing on PS3, but I have heard it is quite bad. Chance I could be wrong, just what I heard.

The Walking Dead Season 2 [footnote]Sure, episode 1 came out in December of last year, but lets be honest: The majority of the episodes and the real meat of the season came out this year, so screw you and your rules.[/footnote]
Transistor

Other than that, anything else that has come out this year that I have played isn't really worth the title of favourite game. The only game that got remotely close was Shadow of Mordor, but that game just got boring a few hours in.

In no particular order

D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die - SWERY is an absolute nutbar. One who can make a game actually "Better With Kinect"

Murdered: Soul Suspect - I'll be honest, I have no idea why this scored so poorly. My only complaint is that the combat in the game is basically pointless. A fun, if somewhat short, murder mystery.

Sunset Overdrive - FUN in big capital letters. FUN! Also the traversal system is up there as one of the best in gaming. Despite the option, and the decent map size, never fast travelled once.

Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth - You know it's difficult to explain why this game is great, but it is wonderful.

Football Manager 2015 - Goddamnit, I will take Dundee United to the Champions League!

Now there are plenty of other games I've heard are great (Bayonetta 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Alien: Isolation, etc), but unfortunately I haven't got round to playing them yet.

1: Elite Dangerous (SPACESHAP!!! SPACESHAP!!!)

2: Super Time Force (Addictive, fast, funny)

3: Little Big Planet 3 (better than LBP 1 or 2, seriously, mightily impressive piece of creativity)

4: Alien: Crap Your Pants and Die in Isolation

5: Wolfenstein: The New Order (Old school FPS games can in fact survive and thrive in the current health regen cover shooter obsessed world, which is good because Far Cry 4 was just more Far Cry 3 whilst Titanfall and Destiny both stunk).

This year has been a funny one, for triple A titles it's mostly been a damp squib, even the very good ones like Shadow of Mordor and Dragon Age have some pretty glaring issues. On the other hand independent and smaller developers have gone great guns this year, stuff like Elite, Insurgency, STF or Depth would never have come from the big boys (the market doesn't want no space game brah!) yet here they are in their brilliant shiny glory.

I wonder if this year saw the start of the much vaunted 'next big crash' as the Triple A's development and release policies become increasingly unsustainable, except unlike the eighties there are massive numbers of smaller companies waiting to fill the gap, which this year they have filled very well.

Bonus number 6: Insurgency (I loved it when it was a mod for CS:S and half a decade plus later the tense, unrelenting harshness of it is just as compelling as it was back then, but now with added reliability and a much larger community, what Battlefield's Hardcore mode might have been.)

1. South Park: The Stick of Truth
2. Shadow of Mordor
3. Resident Evil 4: Ultimate HD Edition (it counts so shut up!)
4. The Wolf Among Us (only episode 1 was released in late 2013)
5. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PC version was released in January of 2014)

Honorable Mention (you're not gonna believe this)
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
A great little game ported really well to the PC. An example of how a smaller title with a small budget can be a lot more fun than some AAA titles because the developer needs to make sure that every aspect of the game is fleshed out, that the game never looses its focus and that everything works well. And the female protagonist is really good.

I bought and played some older titles that for some reason I didn't like when I tried them earlier or I forgot that they existed. But for now this will do.
It was a good year because I saw through all the bullshit. Didn't waste a cent on overhyped trash.

Mine are (in no particular order):

Persona Q: Shadow labrynth: I like the mashup of characters between Persona 3 and Persona 4

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and punishments: I love all things Sherlock Holmes (with the exception of the TV series Elementary) and I really enjoyed this game. It is also short so it doesn't outstay its welcome.

Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby

The Wolf Among Us: I love the comic series and I like the cel shading.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham: I love all the lego games and this one is no exception.

I still have a few games to check off my "to play" list (namely Shadow of Mordor, The Banner Saga and Super Time Force), so with that in mind...

1. The Wolf Among Us
2. South Park: Stick of Truth
3. Far Cry 4
4. Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS
5. Sunset Overdrive
