I got to say, there were some big disappointments, at least for me, Kane & Lynch is a horrible game compared to the hype and how it looked before release and also, Halo 3 was a bit of a let-down, maybe because it was hyped too much, I just felt the story was too short and wasn't very interesting, and the multiplayer just gets irritating after about half an hour.
haha Kane & Lynch. I was amazed at how many people were suckered in by the pre-release hype for this. When I'd talk to people about their most anticipated game, I was just shocked when they said this. I think my British powers of pessimism allowed me to see how average this was going to be from the very beginning.

I'm more than certain that its not a terrible game; its just a blantantly average 3rd person shooter with a half decent plot: nothing to get upset about if its bad, but nothing to get excited about in any case. I'm sure it will get many votes for 'worst game of the year' when it simply not: its just an unexciting game that got too much attention.

Haven't played a lot of different games this year, more demo's I think. But here a the games I think were good:

- Mass Effect (still playing)
- Casaronne (XBL)
- Forza Motorsport (or was that in 2006?)

Also played Blue Dragon, but it was disapointing...

TF2 is barely playable on xbox live, in my experience.
I understand the TF2 patch fixed that, but I haven't tried it myself.
The patch made smaller team maps slightly less laggy, but I still can't play anything bigger at all. I have a 7mbps connection and never have any lag on other games... yet TF2 just bites the biscuit. and it hurts me.

In My personal experience:

Crysis

Okay Yet I know Crysis Demands a hell of a lot from your computer. If you put aside the hype and the systems specs of crysis. Hat's off to the developers of the game , not only did they manage to make an environment so realistic and so beautiful , they have made some pretty neat technological advancements in the game industry. Some Innovative ideas from the game such as the suit system as well as the completely destructible environment, but the other main aspect is the AI system.

If you play the game on Hard the first time it's more of a challenging (realistic) experience, then you really get to see the AI at work they walk over towards you when you make noise , you can distract them and get the walking in another direction , they will shot in areas that they think you?re in even if you?re not in the firing line. Not like other Ai systems that pinpoint you a mile away then you are in the bush doing nothing.

There is a few flaws in the game such as the pathway of the destructible items may twitch a lot while nothing is provoking it to , and the AI can be Superhuman or Pants on head retarded. The Storyline is as imaginative as a glass of water. *Spoiler* Sounds familiar? Disturbance - rescue - Discover aliens - Run to safety while killing vast swarms of space invaders type things. /*Spoiler* + The Alien AI is Very good.

However I am seeing the game of more of a technical standpoint and how well it tells the story (presents), but I think this alone is worth the game or the year nomination.

Ha, I decided to hire out that game yesterday. It was absolutly stupid! I was hopeing it would be some kind of murder or crime simulator but I got some piece of crap. When I decided to stop playing was the level I went to war. WAR!? Why did they go to war? I thought they were in the mob or smething.

I played all of these to the end, and can honestly say they were nothing special. To also say Im just doing it to not be part of the crowd, its like saying people are really buying PS3's in mass and that Sony are happy with a console that imploded the console strangle hold they had.

I dont buy into the hype and make my own decision, Mass Effect was boring and had a slow combat system with the weopon only being matched by Halo for ineffective lifeless and comical in their handling, physics and use.

Bioshock ooooh ahhh the sound everyone cries, the feel and horror. Yeah what ever blah, blah blah, so the water graphic was done really well. That is it, the rest of the game was as though Dr Moreau had spewed forth a great big steaming cleveland steamer right in the middle of the ocean.

Now the Darkness, yeah what ever. Come on the game didnt know if it wanted to strangle itself to put itself out of its own misery, or just bore you to death with the essence of the movie The Ring.

Then Orange Box, a throw together of old game, with the addition of a mildly amusing Team Fortess two, and a game that had as much thought as a fart in an elevator. Cheer to PORTAL you smelly cheese cutter.

I could have written and included a journal on how FURY ( aka Auran bank buster, by by employee's were shipping the blame to China ) but all would agree this was more likely to win abortion of year rather than game of the year.

But I would also add Frontlines : Fuels of War look intersting and played well ( nice to see Yahtzee at the THQ open night, I too was there looking on as the team at THQ opened its door and gave a warm welcome and great evening )

So there you have it.
Uh oh...another Yahtzee wannabe.

I do agree with you on BioShock though.

Skate. is hands down my game of the year. Despite its flaws, its absolutely brilliant, and I'm really interested if Black Box is going to be able to make another city as realistic and skateable as San Velona in the inevitable sequel.

I am really enjoying Mass Effect, although I do agree that the vehicle sections really harm the game's overall experience. Also I love, love, love the soundtrack.

Speaking of soundtracks, Portal's is great. As a game, it definitely made a pretty big impression on me, and as much as people have talked about the humor in the game, what really stood out to me was how creepy the story was at times, although the whole HAL thing is a little played at this point. Actually I thought the humorous bits weren't that great.

And then there's Mario Galaxy, which smokes every game I've mentioned, as far as a general audience is concerned, and would've smoked Skate were it not for my history with actual skating.

-Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - #1 has to be Hotel Dusk due to how much I was attached to the entire cast of characters... I have yet to have as much human love towards each character as I had in Hotel Dusk.

- EEEE (Every Extend Extra Extreme) - took me to a very unnatural place that I always was hoping REZ would have done already. Its the only time I can remember playing one level for 3 hours straight and not being bored.

- skate. - It has some rough areas (mainly the non ability to go on foot), but what is there is a very refined organic feel to an already very personal sport. Plus it never felt like it was trying to be "cool" like the Tony hawk games which was a huge plus.

- Mass Effect - Such an ambitious title that even without everything delivered that was promised was probably the most satisfying full story based title I've come across in a while. The fact that it feels complete within itself as a single title even with it being the first of a trilogy is very strong. Though I wasn't as attached to character on the level on Hotel Dusk, I did find that I had very compelling personal feeling towards some of the harder choices withing the game. Not easy to do when you have the choice to destroy or save an entire race.

- Virtua Fighter 5 (360) - I say this because, already a great game, I have yet to see such impressive net-code in a fighter. For such a precise and timing dependent twitch fighter, you have to never have lag. Sega must be using magic dust or something similar.

Bioshock
Call of Duty 4
Mass Effect
The Witcher
Portal

I thought Halo 3 was a big disappointment. It was fun for a few days and there were a few truly epic moments in the campaign, but it it just a run-of-the-mill shooter.

Mass Effect - possibly one of the best games I've ever played. Never before has a game so fully immersed you in the experience. I don't see why so many people criticise its combat, it is much better than in the much applauded KotOR or Oblivion.
Portal - short yet brilliant. If a game ever deserved a 10/10, it would be Portal.
Team Fortress 2 - not very innovative, but still fun.
Call of Duty 4 - best in the franchise, in my humble opinion.
BioShock - not the greatest game, but what it had was done well.
Strangehold - I like it. Shut up.

I found Half-Life 2: Episode 2 to be quite slow and sedate, and it felt more of a grind to get to Episode 3 than an enjoyable experience.
Also, why are so many people including Assassin's Creed? It's shallow, repetitive and feels more like a demo than an actual game. It may be a FUN game, but it is not a GREAT game.
