I would like to know that. Knowing who I am as a person cannot harm me; any unpleasant feelings would be from my own refusal to admit something about myself

As I recall, we can change who we are, even in the series.

My name meanings "Who is like God?" which is weird, because it's
A. a question
B. a question
and
C. it's a fucking question!
Oh, and i'm an atheist, so the meaning doesn't suit me so much.

My true name is not meant for mere mortals to hear, for they may burst into flame from the mentioning of it! But to say it, it must be screamed by a thousand tortured souls as they streak across the barren wastes. It must be yelled from the lowest pits of damnation to the highest mountain tops by said tortured souls. All twenty-seven and three quarter syllables of it.

But my friends call me Revolverwolf.

*cough*

I already know who I am, why would I need a fancy 'true name' to prove it? So no. I don't really want to know it. I might ask because I'd be curious.

Why not, right? It might be cool, it might not be, but I don't care. Knowing onesself is something many people never do, and I'd leap at the chance; I prefer unpleasant truths to wondering in all cases.

Moreover, if we take the Inheritance canon into consideration, this would allow me to take some extreme, if necessary, safety precautions.

Eragon is bullshit anyway. Nyeee!

I wouldn't. I don't need to know my "true name". I know myself. Paolini is shite, and I shall stand by it.

Interesting responses so far. ^^ Was just curious because there is always a lot of things that we keep hidden in the depths of our minds, locked away for our own protection, sometimes willingly whilst other times subconsciously. If I suddenly knew everything about who I was, I think I'd be spooked.

In the Eragon books, if one were to truly know ones self, they would come to know their true name. Knowing that name tells your everything about yourself as it is. No lies, no fibs, no secrets and nothing buried deep within. Would you want to know it?

For me, I don't want to know it. Nuh-uh, no way. I don't want to know who I am, but who I might possibly be. Because if I knew who I really was, would I even want to try to be different or would I try too hard to be different? I don't know, and I don't want to know.
Of course I'd want to know! Ignorance is a bliss of the weak.
