Come point at pretty much game on my shelf, chances are that I haven't finished it. It would be quicker to list the games that I have finished.

I have many I havent completed for one reason or another but Final Fantasy VII is probably the one that fits most. Got all the way up to the final battle... and had no ribbons, thus making the fight impossible for me. Ugh lord how I did try but eventually gave up and just watched the ending online, didnt wanna start all over again. Final boss fight be damned I wanted to see what happened.

Mass Effect 2 ive beaten it in all the difficulties except Insanity and i know for a fact no matter how hard i try i wont be able to beat it.
Also Gran Turismo 4 no way ill ever get 100% on it i got it in GT2 but that took weeks and that game is half as big as GT4.
ME2 on Insanity was tough for you? It didn't feel a whole lot different than Hardcore personally. Just took more restarts to complete sections (a lot... LOT of restarts). I'm pretty sure in some sections (like the final area) I watched the loading screen more than I played, and it got pretty repetitive, but I'd think if you can make it though Hardcore you can make it through insanity. Insanity over Hardcore seems like it just means you die in .45 seconds outside of cover rather than in .63 seconds outside of cover.

Anyway, back on topic. I don't think there's a game I've played (that's actually had an ending) that I haven't been able to beat at least on 'normal' difficulty. Only reason I don't beat most games is I just feel 'done' with it and don't really want to finish them. Final Fantasy Tactics gave me a run for my money back when I first played it, but in future playthroughs I just made a calculator class and lol'd though the game.

Mega Man 10
I KNOW.
It's one of the easiest in the series, I'm playing on easy mode, but I just can't beat that bloody castle.

Final Fantasy Tactics. I love that game, but I'm just bad at it. As hard as I tried, I never got past the second-to-last fight of chapter 2.

Silent Hill, because I'm a complete coward and got too freaked out the first time I went into a sewer area, and monsters started coming down from the ceiling at me without that radio noise sound to warn me that they were there first. Haven't touched it since.

Sonic Unleashed. I'm one of the few that actually like that game, but the fact that it locks the levels (the mandatory levels, that is) until you have enough medallions just infuriates me. It's a Sonic game, it's supposed to be a fast paced rush forward, not a tedious scavenger hunt backwards.

Tbh, none of my games that I didn't finish would be attributed to not being finished due to "too hard", a lot of people are posting that they didn't finish due to glitches, bored, scratched CD's, couldn't be bothered, or flat-out didn't like the game.

To me, the only game that falls in the category that the OP is talking about is:
- Battletoads on the Genesis.
- Syndicate on PC (anyone remember that? Came out in '93)

Other games that fall into the category of 'bored and put down' are:
-Ninja Gaiden
-Alan Wake
-Dead Rising 1 & 2
-Splatterhouse
Not saying that I'll never go back to them, they are all great games, but just on the backboard next to other great titles out today

Beast Rider for the xbox360. In all honesty I feel terrible for the artists of that game. It's really a very pretty game, but the mechanics and game-play are so terrible that I've all but refused to touch it. Charging atop a mount to obliterate the enemies in your path is hilarious fun; but they get stuck on everything, then you get surrounded, and then you die. Mostly because most enemies are like walking vats of health. Where slashing their head and crushing them under hulking monstrosities is the equivalent of pushing them onto their butts.

Final Fantasy 13.

Partly because I can't be arsed, and partly because the random encounters beat me and I can't be arsed.

The Dark Spire, Master of the Monster Lair, any Persona game, Nostalgia, Etrian Odyssey III.
Can't beat those. Strangely enough, they are all made by Atlus. Huh.

Mirror's Edge - I'm not sure how far along I am, but there is a part in the game where you fall down an elevator shaft and push a red button that opens up a metal door to a huge room. In the room there's two levels (floor level and the catwalk above it) and a little shed inside the room. There's about 3-4 guards with assault rifles that gun me down in a matter of seconds. I must have died a hundred times. I have given up. :|

Such rude language!

I could never beat Little Nemo: The Dream Master for NES. Got up to the final boss a handful of times, but could never get him sorted.

My friend and I tried countless times to beat Double Dragon III on NES and, again, could never surpass the final boss (assuming that the lady you fight after the mummies is the final boss?).

Come to think of it, all the games I gave up on out of difficulty rather than boredom (Final Fantasy XII & XIII being all over that category) were NES games. So maybe I can be forgiven for this.

Wing Commander 2. I got a "speed adjusted" version about 12 years ago. My old P120 was too slow to run it and it kept crashing on the second mission. My upgraded K6-300 was too fast and I kept crashing into asteroids.

If anyone remembers Seiken Densetsu 3 back on the SNES, it was a poor translation so I'm still finding my way around, however this game is mad fun even with a friend
