Have you ever thought of a story that you thought would be great for a video game? If you have, then what was it? When did you think of it?

I don't really have a story for a game, but a story telling mechanic.

Different chapters of the story are told by different characters, and for each chapter, there may be different gameplay elements, or possibly different graphics.

You could have some different interaction meta-game between the characters. One character could state "no, that's not how that went." or "that's not what I did." kinda in the same way as the first Prince of Persia.

The story plays itself out between the different characters, then the game comes to a head, with them in a bar, or around a campfire or something, then they go and fight in the final confrontation.

I usually make up stories to justify the game dynamics. For example in this game http://monkeydev.com/insomnia/ the game play dictated that the player constantly climb upward while collecting power ups to keep them selves from falling asleep. I wanted the player to know the game was beatable so I had the walls close in. I made up a story about how isolation in a light house was causing him to dream disturbing dreams and how he started taking drugs to stay awake. Granted this was for a HP Lovecraft competition where the prompt was about a man who dares not sleep. I guess I came up with this idea on the toilet like all my other game ideas that are not sparked through conversations with my friends.

Sim Bastard, or Jones in the Jerk Lane

Basically, you start out with a blank Dude, your job is to climb your way to the top, using the people around you as rungs on the stepladder to success. You need to cheat, bribe and threaten your way through university, funded by your junior management position at the local Burger Hut, then work your way up the corporate ladder, hacking, slashing and burning bridges as you go, undermining those pesky do-gooders and avoiding the blade from other roving Bastards, on your journey to the top. On your way, you need to get the biggest condo, filled with all the most expensive, tasteless stuff you can find, drive the biggest cockmobile you can get and manage a string of mistresses without your trophy wife finding out. The game ends when your empire inevitably crumbles around you and you choosing between enduring an expensive show-trial before spending the rest of your life in maximum security or a bullet to the brain.

Little duke gets replaced by his mom with a robo-timmy sold by some nameless megacorp company. Little duke goes on a massive GRAWWWWAARR campaign to destroy the company. HE WANTS HIS COOKIES. Turns out little duke is actually duke nukem when he was a kid. That would make an awesome story.

A game or even film with a modified version of Manhunt's plot would be amazing. I loved the game and the fact that James Earl Cash was truly a cold individual. But it would have been even better to learn about him and maybe play out his character some more, maybe even make you sympathetic for him. Haven't ever really thought into great detail about it though.

I have a couple of ideas but they're all about as bad as the idea from Gamer (2001) (not the Gamer that's coming out soon).

myself and a freind have an idea of a MMORPG where the zombie apocalypse has happened and players explore the world which is now infested with zombies. it would work more like fallout 3 then a typlical RPG and theres little restraint in killing other players apart from in towns or strongholds. you never actually stop playing as there would be a percentage guage indicating how well fortified you are in the current area from zombie attacks, for example if you leave your character in a flat with no solid stairs and used a rope or something you'd have like a 90% of living until you log back into the game.

thought of calling it Plague Online, or just a thought Plague Omega Online just so the abrev would be POO :D

I won't go into excessive details, but the actual plot is that it doesn't focus on saving the world, and the main characters are more anti-heroes than gallant knights and whatnot.
