Your Writing Style?

I think we should mix this up a bit. Describing your writing style is all well and good, but if you had to give it a name, what would it be?

Mine would be something like verbose-attention-deficit-post-gonzoism.

Snappy, no?

Am I the only person on here who doesn't think they're awesome?

I'm exactly the same as kanyatta and that's prbably why my essays are rather poor.

My creative writing isn't bad though. I just think of the most random thing, write about for a few pages, then end the thing with a funny punchline which I think of write at the end. If I can't think of one, then I'm screwed.

My style? Dual Focus. I'll explain. I refuse to use "he said", "she said" or any variation unless absolutely necessary (As in "And do you know what he said to me?" or "She said that? Really?", etc), and as such I keep my dialogue and my non-dialogue separate from one another. This means I have up to a block of text...

"...then some dialogue from one person..."

...then another block of text. This allows me to cover the scene itself, as well as provide some world-building that's related in some way to the matter at hand. Either that or introspection, that's good too. Character thought processes are extremely useful, especially when they allow me to explain *why* somebody said or did what they did.

I write... the same way I think. My elipsis have a tendency to be overused as any break in my thought process or used incorrectly to join related ideas. Consider it an insight into my mind. I write with a touch of levity in all that I do, including sarcasm. I tend to be horribly satirical and/or sarcastic as well. I also prefer to have quotations in my posts whenever possible.

When I'm not paying attention, I end up with Doctor Seuss (sp?) writings like above... hurray for quick sentences that don't flow together! I'm a children's author. Just kidding.

I over explain things, and I have trouble spelling without spellcheck/dictionary. I usually need to use The Free Dictionary three or four times before I post anything to these forums.

In terms of my "Creative Writing" I take my biggest inspiration from the works of David Eddings, clever character dialogue, minimalist and easy to understand description and a fast moving plot.

I'd call my general creative writing style.... impromptu-Hemmingway/Lewis influenced-short story-blurbation

Usually very objective and sarcastic, little vulgarity, some alliteration.

Never ever repeat words on the same page. Don't use "great" or "immersive" or whatever multiple times in the same post/article/whatever. It just looks like you don't know any other words.

Well the first paragraph I have been tending to go towards a hook or a joke. That way there is reason for the reader to see more while giving a good idea of my thoughts for the review. I have been going the route of trying to have a good hitch or punch. That way there is a way for the review to work when being heard second hand from someone from just a few good points.

Forgive me for the plugs, but they are for the sake of examples of past writings.

Right now things are a bit nondeterminate as to what direction I should go. Either towards the direction of perilous heights of alliterations or the daunting fall into the cavernous dept of grammar. The only truth that is known to me, from any writing style is that keep beating down on it, turns into a beautiful rails of thoughts for others to travel on.

I've been told my written work has a very informal tone to it. It apparently makes it more accessible.

Depends on what I'm writing. Normally, I'd say my style is somewhere between Jerry Holkins and Dave Barry (probably closer to the first), with a helping of stream of consciousness added in. I rather enjoy the humor value inherent in a bit of sesquipedalian loquaciousness (or at least, a more formal tone than a given situation calls for), especially if it's suddenly brought down by an unexpected turn or a sudden drop in formality. I'd imagine I'd use such a style for reviews, as well.

I've only written one (well, two, but I don't acknowledge the first) story, so I can't really generalize on that. Other than to say that I love scenery and emotional description and don't really feel comfortable writing dialogue.

i'm dry, a little sarcastic and use, as i am demonstrating now, commas in the place of brackets. i also use absurdity a lot and bad analogy for comedic purposes as well as the oddly placed, needlessly fancy, use of florid verbosity so as to appear intelligent.

I tend to use very lengthy sentences and draw a lot of metaphors and similes where I can. I also try to use the full extent of my lexicon wherever possible, not to show off but just to make it more interesting to read, rather than some trundling repetitive mess. I don't generally give a great deal of time to proof reading and editing though as I find I write best when I just let it flow spontaneously without agonising over each and every syllable, which can give my writing a slightly conversational tone as I end up just writing as I think, sort of.
