You're a Nerd

I'm a nerd for five of the following reasons.

*Counting backwards*

5. I know way to much stuff, and at least 60% of that knowledge is random fact based crap.

4. I've had an addiction to gaming since I was six.

3. I'm currently studying the Japanese language.

2. I freaking love anime and manga, which also brought on my will to learn japanese.

Finally number 1. I'm this site every single day since I joined.

I am known for making obscure referances to movies that usually I know I am the only person in the present company that would know what I'm talking about. I watch movies with great enthusiasm and while I'm certainly not on the same level of say Bob Chipman I do certainly think I'm a big movie buff. Also I play video games a lot, even if I just want to play thirty minutes or so of ODST Firefight to syke myself up for things. I think of myself as capable of being romantic and affectionate which is something that pretty much all the 'cool' guys I know never do. I have an interest in dinosaurs and evolutionary biology and ultimatley yeah I'd say I'm a nerd.

And proud.

I own anime/japanese and gaming t-shirts
Spend a ridiculous amount of time playing video games
ANIME
and I'm on a gaming forum at 1.30am and I have an early lecture in the morning.

i have a huge glowing beast of a pc (which i do refer to as the big rig), i play waaaay too many games, study game developement, bit of a film buff, reference internet memes (sometimes for no real reason) in conversations and i tend to remember odd little details and massive amounts of backstory from sci-fi and fantasy shows..... but i'm big and scary so very few people call me a nerd to my face

I work at Geek Squad
I am going to school full time for an associates degree in network security
I have over 20 D&D books
though I don't need them, I know most of the rules and feats and such like the back of my hand.
I have a beast of a gaming rig
I make up drinking games for video games (each time you get stuck or meleed or plasma-pistoled, every killstreak you get in halo 3, you drink)

I've qualified for the USAMO
I took AP classes as a Freshmen
I play DDO (if you can't get the basics of DnD, i suggest you try DDO, it'll help you grasp the basics)
I think Kepler is the most Epic astronomer Ever
Most of the "You might be a physics major" apply to me, and i'm not a physics major
I look for creativity in games rather than fun
I believe that anything has the potential to be art (video games, turds, explosions, Naruto References, you name it)

Because I take great pleasure in not just the watching/listening/playing of my chosen distractions.

but I look for the subtext, the message within the story. I mean, I love watching stuff for the sake of watching it. Give me some Arnie, JCVD and Stalone anyday. But I love to look at good speculative fiction and think 'well what is this about, really? What are they saying with this?' I do the same thing with games (Portal and Half-Life are tales of the dangers of being reckless with science, Silent Hill 2 is about accepting your mistakes, and owning up to your guilt lest it destroy you) and with music.

Also the fact that I learn as much about something as I possibly can when I'm interested in it, also qualifies me as a nerd.
