Chopin's Piano Concerto in F, followed by If You Could See Me Now, followed by Tiny Dancer.
It would be great.

So many good choices, and I'm tempted to go with the classics, but I'll ultimately pick what I love:

Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold
Live and Learn for Sonic Adventure 2
A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Sweet Child of Mine - Guns n Roses
Over the Hills and Far Away - Gary Moore

I think I've even played this setlist a few times, though usually with other songs mixed in. There's just so many to choose from, Johnny B Goode, Guitar Man, Bad Moon Rising, Rock and Roll.

Next Tuesday I'm going to be playing a gig and my setlist is thus:

Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Hotel California - Eagles
Rocking All Over the World - John Fogerty/Status Quo
Something by AC/DC
Something by Elvis

And for encore
Sweet Child of Mine - Guns n Roses
Walk This Way - Aerosmith
Johnny B Goode - Chuck Berry

I'm a fan of the classics.

My dream setlist would be:

1: Come As You Are by Nirvana

2: Elimination by Overkill

3: In the Still of the Night by Whitesnake(because they're the best)

If you had the opportunity to play any 3 songs of your choosing to the largest, most enthusiastic audience imaginable, in the most amazing venue conceivable, which 3 songs would you choose?
I'd choose three of my own songs. Fuck other people's songs.

To be honest, I reckon the ideal audience is probably about 500 people, maximum. Any more than that and you start to lose the personal aspect of performing, it's not actually as much fun. When the nearest audience member is on the other side of a pit and a security barricade and there's tons of lights in your face stopping you from being able to see past the first row or two, it starts to feel a bit remote, like you're playing in a garage with car headlights in your face and there's a party next door where you're not invited but your music is being piped there somehow. It's good for the ego but not much else. Also, from a fan's point of view it's better to see an artist in as small a venue as possible, your own lounge room is ideal but failing that a small stage is better than a large one for all sorts of reasons. Arenas are a huge compromise that only gives a small percentage of the crowd the ideal experience.

/crackknuckles Time to live my fantasy in forum form...

Open with:

Then play:

And close with:

Also, just in case they call for an encore:

I'd be the singer for the band because I suck at guitar and can actually sort of sing heavy metal growl vocals. Oh, and this thread is awesome.

EDIT: Changed the Encore song choice to Dethklok instead of Dimmu. And changed #2 to to Amon Amarth from Lamb of God.

Funny you should ask--I did this very thing (i.e. perform awesome music of my choosing before a receptive audience) just this last weekend.

Therefore, the songs which I would (and did) choose:

Radiohead--Myxomatosis
Steel Pole Bathtub--Train to Miami
Rage Against The Machine--Without A Face

It was most enjoyable, and a good time was had by all.

Octavarium - Dream Theater
This Dying Soul - Dream Theater
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - Dream Theater

It's hard to think of something to go in between those two epic songs, but I think This Dying Soul would work.

In No Particular Order:

I was really, really tempted to put Bloody Tears by Akihiro Honda as my #3.

I'd probably start with Bodies by the Smashing Pumpkins [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-_Q8znGMRg]. Then probably The Unforgiven by Metallica [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYUMPKFYd6g]. Then I'd end with Scarborough Fair by Leaves Eyes [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qYEHVvZsQA].

For an encore, I'd play Quicksilver by the Crüxshadows [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfRdDISlsws], Thru The Eyes of Ruby by the Smashing Pumpkins [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU16EBurb1Q], and I'd end with Her Majesty by The Beatles [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnCIKoFBiHQ].

Cancer Bats- Hail Destroyer
Anthrax- Caught In A Mosh
Thin Lizzy- The Boys Are Back In Town

I want stuff that's relatively easy for me to play, and also fucking awesome live.

I'm with you on this, except it would be my bands' songs...

As for the venue, as long as its a small, 100 person club with a murky atmosphere and room to fuck around on stage, it would already be better than any venue I've played.

BREAKDOWN
BREAKDOWN (Woooo)

...Sorry, Gotta love Johnny Hyde.

To the topic:

Queen--Hammer to Fall
The Stone Coyotes--Fire it Up
The Rings--Third Generation.

I didn't intend the list to be 2/3 songs people are unlikely to know, but screw it.
