Great. Now I wont see those fucking idiotic spam bots that are like "check out this online game" or telling me how their sister's boyfriend makes 50000000 a fucking month over the internet, fuck those spams.
You mean, the same comments you already don't see because people always mark them as spam?
Yeah, all those spam comments that are one or both of the top comments because the current comment system can be abused like that.

Current system doesn't work at all. Obviously I fucking see them or I wouldn't complain here of all places. Besides, spam on youtube usually means "opinion I don't agree with".

Oh, this is actually pretty good. I would really enjoy it if stupid comments get regulated.

this is terrible (imo), I am sorry google, you don't know what I like, they always suggest videos I am either not interested in or have already seen. I prefer just most rcenent comments, I will continue to use the search bar. anyway doesn't thumbs up (top comments) already do this, just look for the comments whith thumbs. It would be okay if they had seperate list (classic display, popular display, suggested display)

I guarantee you the spamers will find a way around it and abuse it even more. whith the new system they may be the only comments you see (you can't just scroll past them)

why is google beoming more and more insular!? if I wanted to be bound to an "ecosystem" I would be an apple user!!!

It is infuriating, by this rate ill either be forced ill have to migrate to microsoft, as broken and clunky as it is.

I have accepted they are going to ask every freaking time i open the site. at leas the righto ne is selected by default so i just have to click "ok".
They're just going to have to get used to me filing a support ticket every time it happens. Which was again this morning. ;P

I did notice this time that in addition to the two options (use one name/use two names), there was a little check-box that indicated you accepted the Google+ TOS.

I don't recommend clicking that box.

Personally, I've not signed up for Google+. There's no way I'm agreeing to its TOS.
No, they wont.
I actually spent 2 hours yesterday trying to find a way to contact or send support ticked about their Google Play, as they essentialy rendered any my purchases useless. I didnt find it, as it does not exist. the contact us is a automated troubleshooter and there is no feedback form or forum. actually it seems like there is a forum for every product but google play store.
Also from what i know youtube public support forums are kinda being killed to, so yeah.
I got auto-inejcted into G+ due to my constant usage of Gmail. But my profile is empty and i never visit it.
Actually, i havent used youtube since the change. i opened it now as im typing this post and the comments seem identical to how they were before. so no change yet. i also use the whole "old look old channels" and all that jazz as much as they allow me on youtube, gmail, IMDB and pretty much everywhere.

But do not despair, better watch this fun movie about EA SPORTS pronouncation. you wont be dissapointed.

"arc" and "arch" are two separate words with entirely different meanings, and a "Gothic Arch" makes far more sense than a "Gothic Arc", no spelling error there.

You know what I would love to see? I would love to see just one (preferable more, but one will do) major YouTube celebrity take a stand against all this bullshit. I would be fucking ecstatic to see at least one of them basically quit their job until YouTube stopped fucking with everything that doesn't need fucking with. If you could get several of the biggest celebs to do this the amount of pure hate that would be sent Google's way might be enough to get them to do something other than continue what they're doing now. Unfortunately, the odds of this ever happening are way too small to even hope for.

So if little Timmy wants to rape the CoD-developer's wife over him changing some stats of his fav. weapon, it would help if his daddy finds out and takes away his Xbox for some time.
For the record, I'm not ignoring the rest of your post, it's just long and I wanted to get to the point I wanted to make.

The thing with behaviour is that there actually needs to be some grounds for modification. As you agree, people who act like dicks on the internet tend to do so without fear of repercussion with or without their real names tied. This is in part because, in reality, they get away with it.

This isn't to say I missed your point, mind, I just don't agree with it. Well, I agree with it in some respects, as if people started doing something about it maybe things would change. But your examples are of people who weren't ashamed because they did it, they were ashamed because they got caught. I bet in the cases where people got back, they're back to their same old.

That's the thing with enforcement. Someone needs to act, and the internet knows it's impractical to act in every case. YouTube isn't going to start calling up kids' parents because their kids are screaming hate speech, and for the most part, you're not going to see any sort of action from other companies. The boss example is one that happens because the boss is directly involved. This sends the message of "don't ***** about your boss where s/he could read it."

If Timmy threatens rape over CoD, he should probably be punished by his parents. But first they need to find out, which is unlikely on the internet (even with names) and then his parents have to do something, which doesn't seem to be all that common.

It's like internet piracy. The RIAA/MPAA/whoever know they can't stop everyone, so they try and scare people out of it with exaggerated threats and massive lawsuits against some token targets. The rest of the internet knows the odds are long against them getting caught, and keep it up.

You know what else happens when you use real names on the internet, though?

Harassment.

You see, this swings both ways. I just watched a video the other day where a transwoman talked about people who didn't like her videos tracking her down at her place of work. Guess why that's possible. I mean, you can still find people's info out otherwise, so it maybe would have happened to some degree, but this makes it waaaay easier.

And you know what? I'm reticent to post anything about my political/religious stances and sexuality tied to my real name because that can hurt my business. It doesn't stop the people who are problems, though. They're still threatening to rape people.

You want to know how to increase more meaningful comments and discussions on Youtube?

Fucking expand on the character limits.
Seriously.

500 characters ain't going to cut it.

Also, Youtube, for the last fucking time. no. I don't want to use my real name on my goddamn Youtube account.

AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

Also, I'm not going to like anything Youtube does until it fixes it's recommended videos and... well the videos in general. Half the time I have to refresh the bloody page because it freezes all the god damn time.
Yep. Aside from the 0.01% chance that you'll actually find decent conversations in YouTube comments (and only on specialized videos tailored to a specific community, like Touhou stuff or Creepypasta), comments are, for the most part, either praise, hate, or random gibberish. More of the last one if it's a really popular personality.

I wish Google would just enable a YouTube classic feature. I thought that YouTube worked perfectly well back when I first visited the site in, what, 2007?

Funny you should mention that because you actually COULD do that a year ago. There was a way to change to one of the previous formats.

However, YouTube has """patched""" that now, so we're stuck with bugged videos and a homepage that is a ridiculous mess.

I agree that it was a fair point that something needed to be done about the amount of flaming and trolling in the Youtube comments. I'm not sure as written if what they're doing is, well, that thing. I recognize that some people think that anonymity is the source for all internet ire, or at least the shield which all that ire hides behind, but I'm not entirely convinced- nor certain that having users' information unified under a common identity, however great for Google itself, isn't offering those who really do wish to flame/troll/harass/threaten people who create videos a much broader means to do so.

"Oh, great. Now that I know your gmail account, I can sign it up for penis enhancement drug offers and use my ten anonymous hotmail accounts to send you threats and obscenities. Win!"

Someone out there needs to make a site that is like YouTube in the good old days, and make that popular. Make everyone flock there instead. I agree that Google is not the right kind of people to make a good site like this, and ever since they took over, it's been seriously fucked. Who's with me? Who wants to make a good site? :3

Edit: To all of the people who complain about having to use your real name, just use a name that SOUNDS real, but isn't your own. I mean, I didn't use my real name, but they accepted Eraldo as the first name easily. It's just a matter of choosing a different identity to go by on there. It's an easy work-around
