Now, I'm nowhere near as popular as Mr. MoS and I am not experiencing the same sort of issues he is, but I kinda like what the change did.

At least, for the comments, anyway. They now allow for link posting, pictures, hashtags (which are pretty useless anyway), and just a better comment flow. Did I mention there's no text limit either?

Plus, I somehow managed to keep my name and my Youtube names separate thanks to some last minute channel changes. So I'm safe there.

But I can see why people hate what they did. I mean, the changes are not that great, and I'll never use the Google+ thing because it's just like Facebook, but whatever. Google just needs to get their shit together and make people happy. Which is something they haven't been doing for the last few years with Youtube.

NO, Youtube, I don't want to use my real name. Stop asking me about it.

NO, Google+, I don't want to add friends to my profile. I've already got Facebook, fucking twat!

NO, Google+, I am NOT interested in ANY of your fucking WORTHLESS features which I'm not going to use. Y'know why? BECAUSE I'M NOT GOING TO USE GOOGLE+!
THIS!! Just this!!

I got forced into google + yesterday and I hate it with the heat of a nova. All youtube had to do was add the thread comment feature and the edit comment feature and left the rest of it alone!! The old system was fine. This new system has created so much trouble for the big youtubers like Gav, there is no user friendliness with this new system.

Anyone know of other video streaming websites? We should just ditch youtube all together.
I agree on this. It seriously needs to die if this is gonna go on. Only problem is that some people make a career off of YouTube, so they have to sit there and take the bullshit. It's sad, man

The main thing I've seen that LAST part do is cause people to post enormous ASCII penises, looooooong dropdowns of swastika art, and endless spammings of "Can you seethe problems with the new comments?" over and over again. Yeah, removing the character limit was really needed...

I haven't seen that happen yet. >->

If that becomes a big enough problem, I'm going to have to reconsider that last part. But, for me, no text limit is awesome. Sometimes I can get into debates in the comments section (on Youtube? boy be trippin') and sometimes I don't always have enough space to fully convey what I'm trying to get across without being 200 characters over the limit.

I dunno, this thing is going to be a big mess for a while. But knowing Google, they won't fix it. They'll just pump out a newer, "better" version in a few weeks that only makes things worse.

Guys, go to your Youtube Account Settings, unlink from your Google+ using the link under your email on that page. After doing that, that GOogle+ Dashboard shit goes away and the inbox button appears where it used to before that tripe came to pass. Not sure if the Inbox works right or not, haven't been able to check. But it gets rid of all that BS.

EDIT: One big issue that I just discovered, you can't comment without a Google+ thing.

Nope. And the Inbox doesn't work.

Can people do a quick favour for me? You can see this comment right? If so, can you go to the Advice forum and see if there's a topic from me about not being able to comment on Youtube? I've made the topic and can reload the page by checking my three most recent posts, but for some reason, the topic isn't showing up in the Advice forum.

EDIT - There it is now. Guess Escapist's server was being slow or something. Don't bother guys.

So I just figured out why I could not comment at all any longer. Obviously plus.google.com is a different domain than youtube.com, so I now I have to allow third-party cookies just to get commenting back.

Google must be delighted.

The only thing I was upset about was the fact that I had to re-upload my avatar, which was a grueling process. I got it back, though, so I guess that's fine now. The new comments section though? Unbelievably disorganized. I liked the earlier version better.

I've never had a Google+, but they've still disabled my comment inbox for my YouTube videos so they can appear on my Google+, (or so I can at least edit my preferences so I receive an email for said comments)...even though I don't have a Google+ account, and nor will I ever be getting one. Sigh.

I like the new system. By not linking my non-existent Google+ account, it means I can browse YouTube without having to read the internet's worst opinions. Win/win for me.

Unsurprisingly, as has been the case with many premier, market dominating websites, the attempts to monetize, update (read: make more complex) and integrate have made the site worse and worse at its original purpose.

It'll die a slow, painful death, much like Myspace did, or like Facebook is in the process of doing.

It's actually kind of funny how badly Google is fucking up the over-complicating thing after how much effort they've put into simplifying their most popular product (Google search). I recently noticed I can't log into gmail immediately on the same page that's brought up by gmail.com (on computers that aren't my own)- I have to search around for the "log in" button. I legitimately cannot believe a company that was smart enough to combine the search function with the address bar is dumb enough to hide the login for their email on a secondary page.

And what's with all this "log into chrome" shit? No thank you google, I don't want to have all the information my own computers have stored in chrome available on this random school computer, not even momentarily.

It's made replying to and voting on comments such a chore that it's thrown me out of the experience altogether of commenting on a video. It disappoints me because I used to like to make interesting points on videos and supply trivia or comedy on short notice. Now I can't even do that with any degree of ease.

You can't reply on a comment that has no Google+ linked content and can't vote on a comment that has no linked content...so now spam posts, flames, and other such junk simply piles up uncontrolled as well.

What a mess.

Can someone please explain to me why I still can't comment on YouTube? I begrudgingly linked my accounts, but now when I click the comment box, it flashes a new window in my face, and I still can't type. And I see nothing on the page that says anything to the effect of "support."

Edit: Found it. You need to allow cookies on the page, not that it ever tells anyone that's the problem.

Yeah this took me a while to find out as well. You need to allow third party cookies even. Which Google, as the company behind Doubleclick and 90% of all ad farms, must be happy about.

It's one of the worst comment systems I have ever seen. Terrible design, confusing layout, forced use of Google +...

It reminds me a lot of EA bragging about how gamers "love Origin" when in fact, most gamers only use Origin because it's forced upon them. I anticipate Google will start bragging about how everybody has a Google+ now, meaning everybody must love it!

I deliberately went out of my way to unlink my Google+ to my Youtube. Now I'm being forced to relink it? I'd rather just not comment, the comment section wasn't that good to begin with...

Also, the inbox system is annoying. It's hard enough to find your inbox, and now there's not really a point to it. I'm sure I just don't understand parts of the system, but if I need to "learn" how to post a comment on a website, the website is poorly designed. End of story.

Wasn't this supposed to be a system to help get rid of trolls, as opposed to just forcing everyone to use Google+? It's even worse now, and people can post ascii art of giant penises or write the entirety of Pride and Prejudice in their comment. You can filter out spam and crude language, but now it's been replaced with other obnoxious content. Just...WTF Google?

I disabled comments on Youtube and basically just stopped caring about anything on there except my subs box. I dunno, the change doesn't really affect me that much but I can see why people that are affected by the recent Google+ changes on YouTube.

They're obviously just trying to get people to use G+ cause no one uses that damn thing.

As I was about to post my annoyances with the new system as I had to create a Google+ account where I had to use my name (as I linked my casual Gmail to my youtube), I found a way to switch back to my old account, as long as I made a Google+ account for it, which I already did a long time ago, because Google kept on bitching for me to do it, and I unfortunately pressed yes.
Nonetheless, the new comment system annoys me. Really, I can't follow any of the conversations, and, quite frankly, it's going to take a lot longer for me to adapt to these changes. Last one took some time, but it manageable; this one, however, annoys me greatly.

Funny thing is... I used to kind of like Google+, because I have no use for any "social networking" bullshit beyond having a universal sign-in for sites I don't want to bother making an account for... so I can use that account.

Now, though... they've forced me to actually go back into my Google+ account settings to get comments and ratings working on youtube again. Lo and behold, the thing looks just like the unintuitive mess that facebook has turned into. Still can't do a thing about posting or commenting from chromium (404 popups from every javascript object), but at least I can sign in and use it with firefox (oh the irony).
