Youtube Google+ Linking

So, I switched my account to be linked to a google+ page a few days ago. After youtube bothering me likely more than 50 times I just finally said fuck it and did it. In light of the new comments needing a google+ account I figured I'd make this thread.

This system is the most clusterfucky, confusing, pointlessly convoluted piece of shit that's ever come out of either Google or old youtube. I can go into details if you want, but the system is a Frankensteined together mess of forcing you to use google+ and keeping your youtube channel how it is. It also decided to delete my youtube avatar because "fuck you" I believe was the official reasoning.

It also then disables your youtube inbox, and now all messages are delivered via google+.... which has no inbox at all. It's just a stream of fucking bullshit. I can't imagine what would happen if you were a youtuber with hundreds of comments. That box would flood at a rate no one could possibly keep up with.

Long story short: if you're still fighting the good fight and not switching to Google+, hold out as long as you can (if you still can?)! In general, I want to know what people think about this new system. My personal thoughts are likely obvious in my writing, so I open it up to you guys.

I don't know why they continue to fuck things up further, when they're in full knowledge that the majority hate it. I don't know. The sad thing is looking back on how stable the site was a couple of years ago, how everyone worked smoothly and it was easy to understand..

I didn't even know I was linking to Google+, I got tricked. It wouldn't let me comment until I "signed in" even though I was already signed in. I had no fucking idea it would be this bad.

Now my page has become a massive pile of fuck-up. I didn't even realise my inbox was deleted.

Now there's no way to remove Google, it's like some inoperable tumour.

I think the main reason every single change they make is hated so much is because there's really no alternative. You're forced into these things whether you like it or not.

Yeah I agree. Youtube was one thing and it did one thing. It wasn't perfect, but it worked well for what it was.

I realize Google wanted to amalgamate all their products into a huge pile, but that maybe doesn't seem like the best idea in hindsight.

It's absolutely atrocious. I made the switch because I was tired of their perpetual nagging, but it turned out to be such a hideous clusterfuck to navigate that I reverted back as soon as I could figure out how.

I will resist the change for as long as I can, but I just know that one day they're going to force this on everyone whether they want it or not. As I mentioned in a related thread, I'll probably abandon my Youtube profile completely at that point. I'll just bookmark my favorite channels and watch them anonymously.

Kinda reminds me of the crap Facebook tries to force on me: I never, ever want to see "top stories" or "top comments". I want to see them in chronological order and scroll down until I find one I've read already. No matter how many times I change it, it defaults back to "let Facebook/Youtube show me whichever random comments its algorithm came up with".

As much as I'm not a fan of the linked yet somewhat disconnected nature of your Google+ page and YouTube profile it's not completely irredeemable. The new thread system is probably an improvement over how it worked previously, however that really could have gone through without the integration. Comments and replies are still delivered via email, the only difference is that your inbox is in a different place (strangely linked on pretty much every web page for a Google service other than YouTube, though I assume that will be updated soon enough -edit: wait it is there, I must be thick or something). I honestly couldn't give two shits about using Google+ however tying everything into the one account makes very little difference...I really don't know why so many people are kicking up a stink about such a minor change. I kind of expect it from the cesspit of retards who frequently make comments there but I thought people here weren't so ridiculous.

Sorry but I want my name private so I'm not doing either and just not comment on videos anymore.

Or you could just do the second option which changes pretty much nothing.

There *is* a third option. -- Having your Google account and name separate from your Youtube account and name.

But it involves creating ANOTHER Google+ account, just to link your Youtube account to (to keep it separate from your main Google identity).

Pretty fucking stupid and convoluted, it has to be said.

I stood my ground. Eventually it forced me into it. Now I have to manually change the url to get to my inbox. And then this comment shit. It is annoying as fuck and I wish Google had left Youtube alone. What's more, I now can't do work on Google Drive and be signed in to Youtube at the same time. It's the biggest load of bullshit.

You know what the worst part of it all is?

YouTube's eight years old and uploading still breaks, videos still don't go out to subscribers and playback still fucks up.

Google's ignoring the site's needs and piling on bullshit that nobody actually wants.

Yesterday I thought I had cracked it - I found the option to completely delete my unwanted-but-forced-on-me-anyway Google+ profile whilst leaving my GMail intact. This appeared to liberate my YouTube account and revert it back to its old self for good.

Today I tried to post a comment and up came the bloody Google window again. It gave me no other option (no close window or cancel) but to either re-link or use another username because my original username was no longer acceptable in their eyes. So I had to proceed and all of a sudden I have a Google+ profile again, which I didn't want, and all of my playlists and videos were missing. I tried to switch back to my old username but it just kept dumping me back at the YT home page, prompting me to sign in. While it gave me the choice to sign in with my Google username or my YT username, only the Google one worked but didn't give me access to my stuff, which I knew was there because it, along with my old profile, showed up with a search.

I have laid into Google over this and am awaiting a response - since then, with mounting rage and some pretty hard mouse-clicks, I managed to get back into my old channel, get access to my stuff and scrub the Google+ crap again.

So, back to square one, then, because it will still keep badgering me to link to a Google+ account I don't have and that will mean creating one.

Google's help forums are awash with people getting really tired about all this but they don't seem to care.

Yes, it's total bullshit. I tried to get a new profile pic yesterday, but then it forced such a heap of "Did you know you can do this on Google+ etc etc" bullshit on me I just thought "Fuck it" and let it be. Now the comments sections are awash with comments where the only way to discern commenters from one another is their usernames, which I am fucking hell not going to read on every comment.

And a few other things:

NO, Youtube, I don't want to use my real name. Stop asking me about it.

NO, Google+, I don't want to add friends to my profile. I've already got Facebook, fucking twat!

NO, Google+, I am NOT interested in ANY of your fucking WORTHLESS features which I'm not going to use. Y'know why? BECAUSE I'M NOT GOING TO USE GOOGLE+!
