So, I was watching Zatoichi and remembering what a truly badass character he was and it occurs to me..

Could a Zatoichi game ever work? I mean, how would you play a game about a blind man?

Is that even possible?

Well maybe by giving the main character a diffrent vision of the world?
Like all red and blurry?

I dunno if any company would be willing to try it, but if they did, and did so well, I'd definitely be in line to get it.

It begs the question if a Samurai game can indeed be done well at all, i've never seen it done well.

Look at Dynasty Warriors, you could replace the entire cast with vikings, or infact mechs and it would make sense.

There was an indie/student game recently where the level geometry only became visible when you painted it a different colour with a paintball. Can't remember it's name. Zatoichi could make a sort of third person action game where he starts off only being aware of himself and the ground under him with the everything else being black. When he touches or hears something they pop into existance, gaining more detail or changing with more information. If they stop making a noise they turn into shadows as they could have moved.

I'd play that.

Way of the Samurai captured the Samurai feel but not the satisfying gameplay. Bushido Blade captured neither.

I quite liked the Way of the Samurai system after getting into it. What did you think of Kengo: Legacy of the Blade? I liked the sword fighting system in that one.
