Constantly hearing Yahtzee saying "There's only 1 Zelda game" made me think

thinking it over there kinda is

same dungeons
same items
same EVERYTHING

the only difference is each one gets a graphics boost and maybe 1 new item MAYBE.

so what are your opinions escapists?

(Note: I am not saying Zelda is "bad" I'm just saying it's "samey")

All of Nintendo's big franchises are "samey" all Mario games are about at least one Italian plumber saving a princess who is repeatedly kidnapped by a dinosaur.

I still like them though because while they are "samey" they do add something different to the experience each time

Ehh, Zelda's more of a game than a story though. It's mostly the experience that's fun.

Yes, they are samey, but they are also very, very entertaining.

It's true - every Zelda game is the exact same.

No development. No evolution. No creativity.
Except in one he became the Green spy by turning into enemies by wearing masks of them and in another he got bitten by Sonic the Werehog.

They aren't samey. But Twilight Princess does give me an empty feeling after playing it. It does have all the new gimmicks from the old games:

Dark World/Light World, Musical instruments, Transformations, Day/Night, Annoying thing that's constantly on your back, Tennis boss, REAL boss, REAL REAL boss, REAL REAL REAL boss.

And now Miyamoto is adding artsy, bright colors to it. It's not samey because in every Zelda there is a new feature. Pokémon is samey. They add the same formula of the added 150 in each game.

Actually, every Zelda game has at least one item that was never in any previous game.

And what do you mean by "same dungeons"? Same themes? Well, there's only so many themes that are even possible. They all have unique puzzles and layouts.

Because Hey, all zelda games require you to;
Shrink the size of an ant
Travel between your childhood and your adulthood or just back in time
Control a boat/train
Collect masks that alter your form
Complete it in 3 days or less
Turn into a wolf
Wake a giant fish egg
Travel through the seasons

Threads like these really show who actually plays or pays attention when they are playing Zelda games.
No, they are not the same.

-The levels change, they simply share a name and theme.
-The items do stay very similar... kinda like how every fantasy game has swords and bows, and every (non futuristic) FPS has guns, and slightly different guns...
-The setting, like the levels both changes yet stays the same. Its set in a specific world, they can't change it entirely, but there are differences from game to game (even moreso when you take Majoras Mask, WindWaker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks into account)
-The plot is not the same. No... No it isn't, you can say it is as much as you want, that doesn't make it true. Again the games mentioned above are considerably different from other entries (and indeed each other). Even excluding those oddities, the simple act of featuring Ganon as an enemy does not make the story the same.

The only thing that's really stayed the same is the core gameplay:
Go to temple, find item, use item, beat boss, get to next temple, etc.

But wait!
If it didn't share gameplay, what the hell would make it a Zelda game?
You mightas well have a go at Mario/Monkey Island/CoD/Diablo because the core gameplay hasn't changed that much (ironically the transition from 2D to 3D Mario is probably the biggest leap) if at all.

If you don't like the games just say so, but stop trying to blame the game, or make it seem like you're the only beacon of intelligence in a sea of fools. We like the games because we find them enjoyable, we see the differences (however subtle you consider them) because we pay attention, you don't because you don't want to.

Actually, if you think about it, most are expansions on the "Dual World" gameplay.

I wouldn't necessarily call them samey, just formulaic.

GIVE THAT MAN A COCONUT!

Hell, I can't say anything now. Great response.

Yeah, what he said. I love Zelda games, and no two have ever felt like their stealing or reusing anything from a previous game. The items are often used in different manners, and if they were changed it wouldn't make for the same experience

Creativity isn't exactly what Nintendo has been known for since the NES.

Took the words from my mouth.
