That does not bode well to me. I know this is Nintendo we're talking about but the idea that the developer's pushing to have it out by the end of the year makes me think there are going to be quite a few rushed bits that will affect the end product's quality. I'm hoping if he has to delay it, he will. It's incredibly rare for any game that's pushed to be out in time for the end of the year to actually still be good.
I'm nervous, because it sounds like they're going from "almost no information" to "Christmas release". Really, games should be made to be finished when they're done, like a roast; not when everyone gets hungry, like a hotdog. Because that's what it will likely come down to, the difference between a roast and a hotdog (except they'll both cost the same).
Same here, I was excited for any vague information on this game, but this seems way too sudden and rushed and kind of spoiled the tension. I really don't want this to be awesome in the beginning and lacking towards the end of the game.

Oh, God, why the wii? I hunted for months for a gamecube version of 'Twilight Princess' just so I wouldn't have to use the damn wii remote. I absolutly love Zelda, and the wii remote might make a good sword - if it worked properly. Love the game, hate the console.
You were actually expecting this to be released on the Gamecube as well? The relationship between the Wii and Gamecube is definitely not the same as the PS3 and PS2.

No, of course I'm not expecting this sequal to be on the gamecube, that's silly! What I'm saying it, I waited to find a gamecube version of twilight princess becuase I didn't want to use the wii version, even though they were the same price. It saddens me that a game which relies heavily on accuracy and freedom of movement will by hindered by the limitations of wii technology.

I am not looking forward to this game. Zelda is a series I believe is meant to be played with a normal controller. I stayed away from the wii version of Twilight Princess for a reason, it felt much better with a controller.
[sarcasm]
Also, they changed Link to be right-handed, he has always been left handed. That is discriminating against left-handed people.
[/sarcasm]

If this game doesn't bring something new to the series I won't get it. I want something thats very different from its predecessor, like Majora's Mask after Ocarina of Time. I mean the games are so damn predictable now, 9/10 times my guesses are right on with ambushes and types of enemies. I want some weird mind screwing stuff like the forest temple and its Escher painting like rooms and hallways.

Aren't the Media and "Top Gaming Men" the only people allowed to go to E3 these days? That was my impression.

Being Zelda I'll of course buy it, but after Twilight Princess I doubt it'll be any good. Nintendo haven't made a good Zelda title since Wind Waker, almost 10 freakin' years ago.

For all the folk worried about this being pushed out too early; this game has been in development since before Twilight Princess was released. And since they're building from old technology, four+ years is plenty of time for a well-developed game.

Can't wait to see more.

Aonuma did confirm that the Wii Motion Plus addon will be needed to play it.
This is all I needed to hear. My anticipation will now reach fever pitch.

You've never used the Motion+, I take it?

Eiji Aonuma is the producer of the still unnamed Zelda Wii sequel, which The Escapist will now refer to as The Zequel.
I'm sorry, but that's worse than the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie insisting on being referred to as the "squeakuel". I guess the term might work slightly if the game were pronounced "Zeel-dah", but it isn't, so "Zequel" just sounds like you have a speech impediment... with your fingers. I don't see why we can't just call it the next Zelda title instead of having to come-up with some "fancy" spin on the word "sequel".

Anywho... can't honestly say I'm hyped about this "The wiimote and the sword become like one" thing. Motion-sensitive games don't really have a good history of reliability when it comes to accuracy. Heck, I'm amazed enough that No More Heroes is relatively accurate with some of the waggling it has you do, but at least it keeps things simple with it. Ultimately I guess we'll just have to see. Who knows, maybe Zelda (see? Was that so hard) will ship with a Wii Motion Plusplus.

Edit:

Heh heh, guess I wasn't the only one who found that term so childishly offensive. ;)

This doesn't sound very good.

I get nervous when developers rush games.
Well it's a good thing this has been in development for over 5 years, then.
But it doesn't have anything "playable"?

I'm not in on developer lingo, but for a game that's been in development for 5 years, not having anything playable is a bit of a long shot.

I mean, you can only work on concept art and level design for so long, right?

I'm sure they probably have sections of the game already playable for inhouse purposes, but to be able to bring some small section together that's appealing to the public, make sure that section is perfectly polished and no obvious bugs, that people can play at a convention without someone going "make sure you sidestep into that tree and attack or the game will crash because we havent ironed out bug#7412 yet" is hard.

And give us a damn left handed link option! he's been lefty his whole life so those of us who are nostalgic about it (or are actually left handed in my case) want that option.

I loved that Link was left-handed, despite being a right-hander myself. Having the option to switch would make sense.

I'm having a hard time trusting Nintendo on the sword swinging thing though. Motion+ or not, I've been burnt too many times by my own (perfectly reasonable) expectations.

Wouldn't Ziiquel have been a better choice?

I'm fairly sure I remember an earlier news post mentioning that (like the sports games) it'll have an option for left/right-handed, so that left-handed players will get a left-handed Link.

They better not mess this one up! Nintendo usually doesn't mess things up (too badly anyway), but, after waiting about five years for a new Zelda, it would be unfortunate if they rushed it just to get it out by Christmas.
