Ok so as far as im conserned zelda wind waker is the best zelda game. That my opinion, but i've been looking around and the biggest complaint was the sailing, now i actually really enjoyed the sailing in wind waker. Im just intrested in seeing if anyone else enjoyed it as well? Or if you don't why?

I loved that game, ties with MM as best Zelda game. I thought the sailing made the world feel vast and gave the impression that the struggle was really about saving the world.

The sailing works well. But some people didn't feel like waiting a while to get places.

I loved it. It was fun, flowing and intuitive and felt refreshing different. Plus the artstyle worked really well with the water FX.

The only thing that was missing was more stuff to be found other than "pick chest up with crane" and a couple more larger islands.

My only complaint was that they cut dungeons due to time constraints and then made up the time by having players to do the triforce quest twice. I would have preferred a shorter game than an overly long fetch quest before the boss rush. I loved the openness and relative freedom that the sailing brought to the experience.

The problem I had with sailing isn't one that gets mentioned often, but sweet jesus it was awkward to change direction. If you overshoot by a few feet, bam, 15 seconds wasted getting out your wind waker, playing the song, picking the direction, waiting for the cutscene to play, getting back to sailing. What would have been nice is if you could map a separate version of the wind waker that activated the wind power immediately in real time, and went in the direction you pointed it. (like throwing the boomerang or using the bow, with a little reticule.)

Also, that fetch quest was balls.

I didn't like the sailing very much...

At the beginning of the game it was kinda fun to go around sailing between the islands you're sent to (Though they're all fairly close to each other) but later it just became annoying having to travel the really long distances (It was just point the wind and boat direction towards it, put up sail and then stare at the back of the boat/ocean until you arrive)

I was always extremely relieved when I get the cyclone song to cut down travel times.

I see some people liked that it made the world feel big, but to me it made it feel empty (So few places of intrest in a large ocean that takes a while to navigate without using cyclones) compared to other Zelda's which are much smaller and quicker to get to somewhere new.

I loved it. Wind Waker was one of my favorites too. I can understand why some people wouldn't, it was a lot of travel, but I thought it was hugely atmospheric. The way they laid the huge looking ocean around you made it seem kind of scary. I actually used to get a little nervous every time I had to sail somewhere far away. Maybe I'm partly crazy, but I really did get 'tiny-sailboat-in-giant-ocean' scared/nervous when I sailed. It made the world more real to me.

It seems to really be one of those love it or hate it type things. No in between. I'm in the 'love it' camp. :)

The sailing never really bothered me. It wasn't that exciting but if the islands were close together, we wouldnt have that vast ocean feel that I think really helped the adventure atmosphere of the game.

I loved Wind Waker, it's my favourite Zelda game to date.

I hated hunting down the Triforce pieces though, but that was just a bad design choice, nothing to do with the sailing.

I kinda liked the triforce hunt, but i think the reason i did is because i descovered so much because of it that i would not of found if wasnt for it, but i would agree it is the weaker part of the game.

You guys make me want to give this game another chance. I hated it the first time around and literally had to push myself about 3/4 through before completely giving up. Though I come from the 8-bit school and favor almost anything on NES and SNES over current-day sequels.

Ya, I didn't mind the triforce hunt so much, I had already discovered most of the world, and fed the fish so everything was marked :p

OT: I didn't mind hte sailing, sure on the longer stretchs there were nothing coming at you or islands while you were sailing. I think that's most peoples problem with WW sailing. Nothing happning xD

I didn't mind the sailing. Didn't hate it nor love it. It just was.
It did make me feel like the world of Wind Waker was vast and real. Not just a hub to take you to different areas of the world map. That was pretty cool I suppose :)

The problem most people seemed to have was how much of it you had to do in the late-game Triforce hunt, and most of the time there wasn't really anything interesting to do while on the way to some far off island. I would actually read a book during some long voyages and to paraphrase Yahtzee, 'if the player is doing this then something has clearly gone wrong'.

That said, the mechanic was great and resulted in the most massive Zelda world ever.

I have mixed feelings about Wind Waker, I liked how it looked and I quite liked the whole sailing thing.

But the things that ruined the game for me were things like the fact that many of the islands had pretty much nothing to do on the other than cut some grass or go down a hole. The fact that they cut two dungeons out so they could rush it out makes the game shorter and adds to the feeling that even though the gameworld is huge, its pretty empty. The gathering of the Triforce towards the end of the game was hugely annoying and only put in to lengthen the game time. And finally in the final boss fight, Zelda takes your bow and arrows off of you and tells you to deflect the light arrows with your shield. No dear, I've been doing this for a while now, I can fire my own light arrows thanks...STOP SHOOTING ME!!

So in short, not my favourite Zelda, I only managed to play through it once, I tried several times to play through it again but always got bored and gave up about halfway through.

The best part of Wind Waker was the gameplay mechanics were solid and a good mix of boss fights. With Gannon being the best ending fight in a Zelda Game so far. My only complaint is that sailing is not the same as exploring Hyrule. Even with that missing, still my favorite of the series.

Hate to do a full on quote, but this sums up my main issue with WW nicely. Redirecting the wind happens very frequently during the game and it's such a colossal waste of time to keep doing it. I'd love to see a full 100% clear Let's Play and a "No side stuff" run with the author keeping a timer on how much gametime he spends redirecting the wind.

I'd wager nearly an hour on a 100% run through.

I also really enjoyed the sailing in Wind Waker, although my qualms were other parts of the game. It was good, but I wouldn't call it the best.
