I titled it zero illustrations because I am too lazy to find a screenshots and plus I don't know embed coding. So deal with it.

Sooooooooo.... Art games.

I've always considered it a weird name for the genre because everyone here insists that every game is art, therefore ALL falling under that category. So, what is an art game really? I'll just stick with interactive painting or something. With that in mind, every day the same dream.

Since interactive paintings are all about story, let's start with the story. You are a faceless, nameless businessman who lives in a nameless city that's in desperate need of a visit from De Blob. You wake up, get dressed, go to work, sit in cubicle. But you feel empty, so you want to shake things up a bit, which leads me to gameplay.

Gameplay consists of waking up and going to work until you figure out exactly how to shake things up. You have 5 steps, which I'll just let you figure out. Bearing that in mind, all but two steps feel like they have any effect on the world. The other 3 are very, very insignificant, and that's where this game failed for me. See, I also play sandbox games. Games in which if I get bored of the missions I can go on a 5 minute killing spree or multi-building base jumping session. Having said that, the three steps still have no effect whatsoever in the gameplay except just checking that step off. The two other steps are visual metaphors or something you look at and analyze or something, but their effects are negligible too until you've completed all 5. What happens then, i'll also let you find out.

One thing I will spoil for you is the message the game is spreading, or at least my interpretation of such content. The message, to me, seems to be saying "Go off the beaten path and try to enjoy life. Don't go through it blindly.". This is not a bad message, it's just... obvious. I went through school, I know my life is monotonous. At least it was when I was in school anyways. If you didn't get that message from experience alone, there's still tons of movies and games out there that already tell you this, so this game not only told me the message in redundancy, but also in an uninteresting and very boring manner. That being said, you can also form your own interpretation if you want, I'm not forcing you to think like me. That also being said, I thought this game was the worst and most boring game I've ever played, and it made a very, very small impact on me. I'll be playing other games, thanks.

Details that would be good to begin with

Title: You don't actually reference the actual name of the game aside from the thread title. I call this a problem.

Developer: Even bedroom programmers have a name. Attaching names like Valve, Mojang, Square Enix or Epic to a game can all exhibit different emotions in different people. I've met people who defended a game solely based on the developer (who then reversed their opinion after playing the game).

Country: There's a difference between a fucked up Japanese game and a fucked up American game. Pure and simple. A culture can influence how a game is developed and what is socially acceptable or unacceptable.

Year: There are distinct aspects of gaming that are noticeable in 1990, 2000, 2010 etc. Saying that N64 Goldeneye looks like shit doesn't mean anything because it looked pretty good back when it was released. Just like complaining that a game does/doesn't have iron sight aiming or whatever.

Platform: Handling issues differ from platform to platform. There isn't much difference between Xbox and PS3 (shut up, there isn't), but the difference between PC and Xbox is huge.

These are all details that can assist in giving a feel to a review.

You have some opinions that you want to share. That's all well and good, but at least do it right.

Oh...

And get a better title.

Zero Punctuation denotes the rapid and long winded method by which Yahtzee delivers his critique of gaming. Zero Illustrations seems to denote your own laziness.

Keep at it. You'll get there eventually.
