I can relate to the Enfield moment...I ran out of SD mags for my MP5 earlier today, found a enfield in a barn and put my MP5 in my backpack. Crawled out of town and shot a zombie just to test the gun when I was out of town....entire town of zombies came running, made more noise then the LMG my friend found. :S

Captcha: Laugh at me

That's not nice, captcha. :<

Dayz can be really good once they fix a ton of shit that's wrong. Also i tend to never play the game solo, having friends along makes the game more bearable in the state that it's in.

Glad to see him enjoying a multiplayer game known for rampant griefing.

I tried to play this a few months ago, I got frustrated because I couldn't invert the y-axis, and then I got frustrated because it was pitchblack and I couldnt see a damn thing. /uninstalled.

Maybe I'll try it again and give the tutorials a go...

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, as good as some of the first two year episodes were.
Edit: And that made me think, I think I liked this because you really show how the game was in your experience, it doesn't talk from a distant perspective, we get to see the game through your eyes. I think some of your episodes may have missed some of that, and those that contain it are among your best.

Why does everyone have such a hard time with DayZ? I've died once, and I think it was because I fell off a building because ArmA II.

Granted I went into DayZ with 3 years of ArmA II experience, and with friends who have a year of ArmA II experience, so we knew what we were doing.

Of course It probably helped that I stumbled on a car full of food, ammo, and medical supplies, and that it was fully functioning. Driving up and down the coast was like living in Zombie land. Who needs bullets when you have a car to run things over with?

It looks like Yahtzee struggleing to find games at the moment.

Perhaps he could do an overview of free to play games to pass the time.

Did you nitpick his post for any reason other than to be a Grammar Nazi?

OT: Despises the difficulty of Demon's Souls and only gives a passing mention to Dark Souls in Extra Punctuation, claims to love Minecraft's Hardcore mode and had fun with DayZ.

I get that they're completely different beasts, it's just amusing to me that the insanely soul-crushingly difficult zombie-apocalypse shooter gets more of a review than the insanely soul-crushingly difficult fantasy action-RPG.

So he's reviewing mods now? Clearly this means he'll need to take a spin through Black Mesa when it releases this week, heeee~

As for DayZ, it's been one of those games I've been meaning to try. It certainly seemed promising when several friends were pretty much gushing over it non-stop when it first released and were constantly playing it. They described it similarly to how Yahtzee did: A flawed, but still entertaining experience.

As a DayZ vet, there was a massive evil grin on my face the second he said "Lee Enfield." For those who don't play DayZ, players call the Lee Enfield "The Dinner Bell." I think you can figure out why.

Created this account just to ask this question... Yahtzee, I can't help but notice you're still going on about Minecraft, a game in which we both thoroughly enjoy. Any chance you could upload your map (or more if you have them) for the masses? I'd get a real kick out of exploring your creations.

*side note, since i have no clue if Mr. Yahtzee ever replies to these types of posts, if anyone here does know where to get this message through that would like to see his maps also, maybe you could pass the message on?

the tricky part would be me finding out if he ever did upload them.. he has 2+ web sites, and a twitter account (which does me little good as I've never used that). so consider this a P.S.S. if someone finds his maps online posted somehow, maybe you could leave a message in this thread for me? not meaning to sound lazy.

thank you for putting up with this rant.

And the saddest part was that I later found my old equipment intact, so whoever killed me did it for fun
Or, y'know, the guy got shot himself and you reached your corpse after respawning faster than him since you had a headstart of sorts.

I'm glad he did. I took DVS BSTrD's post at face value and wondered what he was on about.

DayZ is good but I strongly recommend everyone wait until the standalone version comes out. There is only so much a mod can do to a game. The standalone has complete access to the engine and will be removing some of the more annoying aspects of the mod. I'm surprised the number one issue of the game wasn't mentioned. If you play long enough you'll run into it.

Very funny review, Yahtzee. It sounds like I would need a drink after each death! By the sounds of it, the video game concepts of "realism" and "zombies" are playing themselves out, since those words don't mean anything anymore if developers and modders can't get it right. Also, DayZ sounds like one of those games the Penny Arcade guys called a "depowerment fantasy", like the Tomb Raider reboot (a.k.a. Lara Begins) and Last of Us, the post-apocalyptic escort quest.

The cartoon during the credits when the Imp gets HP Sauce on it made me laugh so hard. That should be an actual game mechanic. Throw steak, hot, chilli, or Ketchup sauce on other players and it makes the nearby zombies swarm!
