I get the bizarre feeling Yathzee really wanted to do a full review for Night in the Woods but was told he needed to do Wildlands, so he just snuck a review for NITW in there anyway.

Reminds me that I need to play NITW. Sounds pretty good.

I honestly don't know what he's going on about. Hitbox detection for me is actually really small and it's very very easy to miss headshots.

Anyway I still love the game! Its great fun for us 'Silent Hill 2 isn't the best story ever and is actually pretty boring' types.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Wildlands sold like hotcakes https://www.pcgamesn.com/ghost-recon-wildlands/ghost-recon-wildlands-launch-sales.

OT: I find Wildlands to be a solid 7/10 "it's ok". It does nothing extraordinary but all the pieces are solid and well executed, and unless you are playing on easy (like I suspect Yhazee was) the game does feel "tactical" or at the very least high lethality, with both the player and foes dying in a few hits.
Also strongly disagree that the game doesn't let your approach things your way. Yea stealth is the best approach, it's a stealth game, but within that framework I have had quite a few fun emergent moments, from speedy helicopter landings, to using C4 boobytraped cars to take out a generator, to lining up enemy trucks to serve as makeshift fortifications when I know a "defend the area" moment is coming.

Funnily enough, for complaining about formula this video was so rote and predictable bar the ending that I almost wonder if it was a mandate from The Escapist or something. I was hoping Yahtzee would skip this one, not because I object to him shitting on the game, but because I could practically hear the broad strokes of the video before he ever made it.

I loved how we reached what would have been a fantastic endpoint with the Ubisoft monologue only to keep going with the Night in the Woods bait n switch. Well played Yahztee, one of the best ZPs I've seen in a while.

I was wondering what setting he's on. The marked target thing is on 3 kills, takes times to set up, and there's a good chance the squadmates will get scene while doing it. Likewise enemies can find the dead bodies.
And aiming with sniper rifles is a lot more difficult than he makes it seem.

And I agree, this feels like one of the ones Yahtzee wanted to skip, but had to do anyway.

I knew Yahtzee would not like this game, personally I had a great time with it as I did with the Division.

This was a first, wasn't it? Yahtzee getting so bored with a game, he gives up and reviews a totally different game.

Unannounced? Yes. But he did something similar with Medal of Honor:Warfighter (pahahaha!).

Comparing Night in the woods to Gone Home isn't the best example.

Night in the Woods has a good story with actual characters oozing with personality that makes everything much more interesting, and there are at least some game elements with a nice art style on top of it.

It looks like real effort was put into everything instead of flat narration in an empty house to avoid the work of animating anything or anyone.

This had been one of his better reviews; he sold me on the game alright. When I get some extra cash I am going to have to put this game on my list. I just hope my PC can play it. Does anyone know the requirements for Night in the Woods?

I think this game is particularly fertile for the "critic fatigue/fan enjoyment" syndrome. doesn't help that like 6 open world games dropped in the last week. Ghost recon is not an exceptional game and is overall pretty uneventful on it's own but my friends and i were able to get some good fun out of it and anyone who isn't required to play 3-4 new games a week would probably be able to get "enough" fun out of it. yeah it's kinda jank in alot of ways and glitchy in ways that a game from a AAA studio shouldn't be. overall i'd agree with it being mediocre which is again sometimes worse than being outright bad but I was able to get my money's worth out of it. i like that the game is very decentralized in that the missions are in no way linear, you can litterally do whatever you like in whatever order you want. i like the freedom. and while far cry and just cause may have more fun mayhem mechanics unless you are on PC and download the mod just cause is not co-op. which is kind of supreme bullshit considering the most popular thing about just cause 2 was the multiplayer mod how did the studio not include at least 2 player co-op in 3? and far cry co-op is honestly lame you can't do story missions just the open world stuff.

I play the game with one or two friends, and it makes a huge difference. I know single player bla bla bla but meanwhile I'm having loads of fun lining up the shots with my friends.

Yahtzee likes Gone Home.

I knew I was right to never trust his opinions on culturally topical games since he said Dark Souls 3 introduced a mana bar to the franchise.
