Actually, plenty of people mention hating anime when attacking DBP, even though anime doesn't really play that big a part in DBP at all apart from some of the drawings looking vaguely similar to the anime style. And by the way, I accuse people of hating Japanese arts because that's what a lot of people pretend to do here, in hopes that it will either impress Yahtzee and/or make them popular here. It's something that comes up in a lot of the semicoherent posts that keep attacking DBP for having the nerve to exist.

But whatever, think what you want.
Absolutely right, I totally agree on that. But this wasn't the case in this particular situation, so projecting it on Garfgobblewhateverhisnamewas does make it a fairly weak argument. I'm not saying it's not true, I don't know that, but it just wasn't mentioned until you brought it up.

No hard feelings or whatsoever, it just bothered me how you immediately jumped into defense and claiming something that wasn't even mentioned by the so-called attacker.
Thank you, I'm glad we could get the name-calling stopped so soon.

I just got a little presumptuous given how many of the attacks on DBP seem to have the same recurring themes, I shouldn't have lumped them all in together. Although I still don't exactly call Garfgarog's comment a gateway into civil discourse, but that's another rant entirely :-D.

Yeah sorry for not writing an in-depth review of the song explaining every aspect and nature of every single note. I'm just saying it sounds horribly standard and clichéd, and it would perfectly fit in the current mixture of emo/nu-metal bands that are being hyped all around. Sorry if I forgot to mention it's actually a crossover between emo and east-Mongolian satanistic blackened death metal, I just had a hard time telling from those few seconds of music.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less what genre it is. It just sounds like something that could perfectly fit in the Bullet for my Valentine discography, or any other of the threehundred-in-a-dozen bands in that genre. Needless to say I think it's overhyped and uninspired rubbish, and most importantly not suiting ZP at all.
It isn't a mix between emo and anything. You're making it abundantly clear you have no idea what emo is.

I fear that changing Yahtzee's creative intros brings us onto a very dark path-- a road that involves a day where Yahtzee will be politely asked by the Escapist to stop cursing.

Well quit your whining and enlighten me then, because right now the only thing you're doing is crying over an appearantly miscalled genre and blatantly missing the point, namely that the hype of trying to beef something up with 13-in-a-dozen sounding guitar riffs (gonna cry about that too?) doesn't fit ZP.

And you're absolutely right about emo, I tend to not go into deep research when I can perfectly establish I don't like something from a distance (and preferably behind a fence). Call me an ignorant twat for that if it makes you feel better, it certainly makes me.

Emo = Emotional Hardcore. Hardcore punk from the 80's/90's. Look into Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Moss Icon.

Nowadays 'Emo' is used to describe bands that incorporate floppy black fringes into their look, and are worshipped by MTV. It's just a term that was misused and overhyped by the media, just like the word 'Indie' to describe the current britpop scene in England. 'Indie' actually meant bands that were on an independant label, but nowadays most 'indie' bands are on high profile major record labels.

The new ZP intro sounds like something out of a Lamb of God song, so I'd say that it's more metalcore, rather than anything else. I completely agree with your point though, the new music doesn't fit Zero Punctuation at all. If anything I'd opt for a more swing/jazz intro, if getting the original intro back wasn't an option.

The uncommitted modular model-building primer/ beloved science fiction franchise connection is a nice segue into the kiddie games/ fun for all the family distinction.
I like the opening sequence. Creative decision. Way to go. Definitely not jumping the shark.
Potential Jump the Shark Moments:
1. Review a game from the future.
--seriously, just make one up. use it as a satire on what games could be.
2. Finally review Fantasy World Dizzy
--Maybe it'd be cool to see, but I suppose someone might chime in and say
"what is this completely self-indulgent bullsh-t?"
3. Completely alienate yourself from pop culture references in favor of reference to previous episodes.
-- it starts with "jump the shark" telling everyone else that you've slandered her in a vlog. then the middle finger won't talk to you because you keep picking your nose with him.
it's a slippery slope.

but potential sell-out moments are pretty clear cut:
Review Ninja Gaiden II or EVE Online.

Oh and what's your name:
"Oh Christ, are you people really that much of of a mindless consumer with cranial intrusion that you don't manage to press the stop button when the clip is over? "Oh no, there is one minute remaining, I have to watch it all and then follow the other lemmings over the next cliff after I posted another pointless Please-no-more-Ads-Whining." yes you.

Maybe you're a lemming for pressing the stop button when the credits roll?
Maybe the idea of hidden content is to break to format of start-content-end-leave?
Maybe gobble up some other media, your yahtzee obsession is showing.

Most of it I'm putting down to the human instinct to be opposed to sudden changes in routine and status quo.
Some of it is undoubtedly that, but I think you should give your viewers a bit more credit. Musical and artistic tastes are not some fickle phenomena on the same level as high-schoolers blindly following the latest fashions. People generally know what they like, so when a unique, variable, rough-hewn, independently-flavored, and awesome intro is converted to something that is arguably its opposite, there will be backlash that isn't reflexive but comes from peoples' hearts.

Yahtzee said:
I'd like to point out that if the reviews had had original music and an intro like that from the very beginning no-one would have cared.
Indeed - no one would have cared, because no one would have noticed it.

Yahtzee said:
I'd also like to point out that I kind of thought everyone was here for the video game criticism, which is unchanged.
Of course we are. We're going to watch regardless, because you are fucking awesome, but the megaphone of the Internet lets us amplify our thoughts about a component of the presentation that may have been rather more integral than even its creator realized. :)

Yahtzee said:
It was my idea to spruce up the videos and make them look a bit more professional, because otherwise it reflects poorly on me.
I'm not sure who you're concerned about reflecting poorly towards. It's certainly not those of us that are so into the show that we take the time to register and post comments here, and I'd wager that it's also not most of the silent Internet People that take the time to watch an animated review of video games.

Extreme paranoia concerning copyright infringement may also have played a part and I wanted to err on the side of caution.
Yeah, that... yeah. Can't do much about that beast. :(

Yahtzee's last point above makes sense though I figure since these reviews are here for satirical and comical purposes, you shouldn't have to worry too much about copyright stuff.

Whatever, it's always an iffy area.

Nice review of Lego Indy... but I liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It's crazy action fun mixed with a fantastical ending. No less crazy than Temple of Doom, with the hearts being ripped out of people who are still alive...

I think even the general style of the guitar intro could be retained if the melody were more memorable. I'm hesitant to bring up the Angry Video Game Nerd because I don't want to suggest that Yahtzee should just follow in someone else's footsteps, but that tune is one you can find yourself humming. It's catchy. This one really isn't, and so it just feels like generic thrashing. It needs a hook.

Jesus CHRIST it's just a new intro, stop moaning. So it changes. Ah well.

Great review, I wholeheartedly agree on the whole "cutesie" vibe from the Lego games in being parodies, I love it to be honest. But some of the controls were a little retarded, but evenly spaced out so it wasn't that bad.

Love the review of the movie at the end too, brilliant description with nothing but hand gestures and facial expressions.

I don't really understand how the new intro is being disliked because it is different/changed. ( unless your talking about the "change" from cool to suck)

Every other opening was different than the one before.

If anything it will now be a static, recurring thing that will not change(redundancy used for effect).
He might as well introduce a wacky neighbor/brother and try to get a timeslot between two and a half men and the rules of engagement.

Nice work Yahtzee, but I'm not crazy about the new intro style...I miss the music selections.
I liked the new intro but yeah some of that old music was pretty darn hilarious in its own right.

I know, the music sections in the very beginning were awesome, and they'll be sorely missed. I can understand him not wanting to rip off copyrighted music though, its a lawsuit in waiting (especially now that he seems to be getting more popular). As a replacement I can't think of any other kind of intro that would be better.

I was rather surprised he reviewed LEGO Indy, and I'm glad he did (mostly because I thought I was alone in a world of OMG-NEW-INDIANA-JONES-MOVIE!!!1 junkies who have yet to realize that the Indiana Jones franchise has fallen prey to "lets squeeze the last bit of money out of these already satisfied fans by tacking on new needless entertainment/shit" virus). But putting my spiteful feelings aside, I enjoyed his review that supports my feeling against having to buy that video game anyway.
