Great review, though I don't like the new intro. The music just seems very generic to me. I can deal with the "not ripping off copyrighted material anymore" thing, but I just don't think the music fits very well.

Other than the music part, though, I think this is the funniest zero punctuation in a while. Several laugh out loud moments through it, where the last couple of reviews had only been eliciting mild chuckles from me. Heheh, fuzzy felt deep space nine..... I'd probably buy that game.

Loving the new music intro, it really brings out your harsh interior, filled with the blood and guts of your slain... wait a minute, you review stuff don't you? Yeah, it's a nice intro, like the music. Also looks more professional indeed

So, let's start a serious discussion for a change (flame war, flame war !!!)...

How can some people say that Skull is better than Temple ? Temple is the worst of the originals, granted, but still was fun in a naive kind of way... and some of the scenes are really great (mine carts, bridge, banquet) and belong to Indy's myth. (Plot spoilers ahead if you care).

I didn't hate Skull, but it could have been a much better movie (basically they could have taken Fate of Atlantis script... ANY of the three paths would have been better). The story is the main offender, really, the whole aliens/skulls thing is confusing even though there is much more plot exposition than the previous movies, and the sci-fi twist feels really out of place in the context of the series. The interplay between Mutt and Indy is not bad, but the whole "Indy has a son" thing felt tacked on.

Most of all, WTF, in the second part it became sort of a school/family trip, I mean FIVE good guys? It has always been Indy vs. the World, and it really felt dispersive. Besides, no one of the others really did anything for me, at least you can HATE Short Round and Willie... Marion had that idiot stupefied smile all the time, and the bitching with Indy lacked the spark of Raiders big time. I really think was a mistake bringing her back.

The fridge.

Good points : good chasing scenes, good setting and villains (I was skeptic about the "evil commies", but in the end they were not so bad), and Harrison Ford delivered as usual.
Temple of Doom was an awesome movie, a PROPER Indiana Jones movie.

Skull had a terrible plot, alot of the acting was sub par, it had Shia LeBouff in it, it was far too implausible for an Indiana Jones movie.

Okay, fine, in Temple you have a guy's heart being ripped out whilst still alive but that pales in logical comparison to surviving a nuclear explosion in a lead lined fridge and then STARING at the mushroom cloud merely (probably) a kilometer away.

*breathes*

On the review.

It was good, I chuckled a bit, the Babylon 5 joke got me the most. I've only ever tried Lego Star Wars and I found it pretty fun with other family members, but I can't imagine Single Player being all that much fun.

I loved the review of Crystal Skull. Nice addition to the interview.

Having never played the lego games(and probably refusing to do so ever), I can't say whether or not I agree with the review of the game itself, but I can agree with the other points brought up around it, like how Short Round should die at least 14 times and how frustrating certain platforming sections of Super Mario Sunshine were.

I very much enjoyed the actual review of lego indiana jones, one of my favorites so far.

However, I strongly despise the new intro and new music, the old intro had a certain classic charm, this one ... eh, well , just sucks... I hope he goes back to the classic version.

I'm just happy that he's finally expanding his horizons. First webcomic tutorials, now movie reviews. Soon, the whole world shall feel the wrath of Canadian Lumber! Oops...wrong forum.

I really wish the Escapist would remove those rotten integrated ads at the end of the feature.
Ads pay salaries. Without ads, there are no salaries, and therefore no content. Essentially what you're asking is for us to stop paying our contributors and staff. That's not something we want to do, and I don't think it's something you'd want us to do either.

Today we morn the passing of our dear friends Intro and Outro Music, may they rest in peace.

I can understand the copyright problems, but the new theme music is just BLAND and UNINSPIRED. Try again.

Otherwise, OK review I guess.

PS. And what's with that unnecessary short intro AND that fancy-pants background in the end credits? ANNOYING!

Hrrrm...that's a very poor argument. There are many ways to advertise and gain money without having specific tailored ads.
I'd be tempted to say that no-one who watches ZP doesn't know about De-Rez et al; and those that don't, probably don't want to.

I did think "sell out" just a little. The pirated music gave it the anarchic vibe that I love about ZP.
Here we go with the "it's too mainstream for my tastes."

Not to pick on you in particular, but really, who cares about a polished "professional" intro that is all of 5% of the total runtime of the video? If something is popular and crafted well, it will be picked up by someone with money and they will put their watermark on it. It's a necessary evil.

Now if Yahtzee had to "tone down" his shtick, then we'd have an argument about selling out.

While the style has changed just a bit, the substance is still the same, people.

Yahtzee is a amazingly intelligent reviewer and watch his reviews over anything like ign's reviews i think are bogus.
i don't like lego games at all i find them hard to take seriously as a game and not just as a total money profitable game for no other than the annoying kids that bug their mums for games.
^^^feel free to post hateful comments about me lego lovers

The new theme strikes me as just a little generic. I've already got it jumbled up with whatever song they were using to promote the PS3 a month or so back (that "ladies and gentlemen" one.) It doesn't seem to me to characterize ZP very well. I understand why there is a set theme and was actually wondering a while back why they hadn't gotten nailed for copyright violation yet (are the older articles going to be changed retroactively or what?) but maybe this could use some tweaking.

Still, I'll get used to it, and it's a good review overall. I think there's a point at which George Lucas bashing passed the point from "legitimate criticism" to "creepy fandom vendetta"- even if the prequels + Crystal Skull were all irredeemable shit (a view I don't hold, but for the sake of argument and NOT starting some tangential thread I'll avoid getting into that) he at least made some good films way back when, setting him above your Michael Bay types- but then snark is the name of the game here.

I've not yet gotten to play Lego Indy, but I do recall melee combat was not the best part of Lego Star Wars unless you had a lightsaber. The "getting pushed off the edge by the other guy" problem seems new, though. Still, sounds worth playing.

About the ads at the end, I find them annoying because my Internet isn't that fast. So after watching a ZP-review and leaving the tab on (for example, to show a part of it to my brother) and then proceeding to watch another video, means the another video doesn't load fast enough because the ads after ZP are still loading.

Not that big of a thing though, more of a minor annoyance.

For me, Lego Indiana Jones shares the same fun as Crackdown: Pissing off your friend by repeatedly blowing him up with a rocket launcher
Could you please tell the name of the video where your avatar is from? I've forgotten it.

Yeah, it was created specifically for ZP. I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to comment beyond that, so I won't.

I appreciate the feedback either way. I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and the ZP crowd is nothing if not vocal about their opinions. I'm just happy that a decent percentage of posters likes it. If I hit 50% I figure I'm doing alright.
Ah hello, Ian. If you appreciate feedback and (hopefully) constructive criticism, then hold onto your hat if you've got one.

I won't say the theme is bad. I'll leave that to the "OMG dis theme suxx0rz" crowd. If anything I would say it doesn't really fit ZP. Granted this is an entirely subjective opinion, but a hard rock guitar and the fancy-pants editing is... let's call it different from the more low-key open visuals (I think they're called "cards" in the industry, aren't they?)

I realize you had little, if anything to do with the visuals, but in case that guy is reading, I'll say that I preferred the static images on the titles to all the movement with no purpose. The opening for ZP now looks like the opening to any other internet video.

And similarly, the opening theme sounds like the opening to any other internet video, especially any with a rock guitar opening. Your cryptic comment leaves me speculating that this might have been a last minute rush job thanks to a law suit of something. Maybe not. I suppose it doesn't matter from my end, does it.

But, as I said, the theme is bad so much as I'm not sure if it fits the show. I'm sure everyone else has their own half-baked opinion on this, but theirs are most likely wrong. Were it me, I would have gone for something slower, softer and low-key. The Phantom Hourglass review opened with "Slow Boat To China" which I think is a better sort of piece to open the show. Yahtzee's speedy delivery would be contrasted with the more relaxed theme.

I don't know. Just one douche's opinion, I guess.

yet again another entertaining opinion, I don't think the intro music fits though, nothing wrong with it, its just too raw in comparison to the well mannered, rationally delivered rage.

Glad to see that some of you guys are liking the new intro music, anyway. :)
Don't listen to the whiners, man - you did a great job.
I guess I should say that it blows ass comparatively. On its own it's fine, but we basically went from fuck-awesome music selections to mere adequacy. It's a fall, not a lateral shift.

I got interested in The Kinks because of these intros. I could have gone my whole life without having heard "Village Green Preservation Society." :(
I also greatly like The Kinks, but unfortunately lawyers also like...making money out of copyright infingement. Yahtzee's success means he has to be a bit more...professional in his choice of music, which I understand.
Anyway, his choice of music was always more based on the title of the song rather than the relevance of the actual music to the review.

I wholly understand what you're saying. I just preferred the old method where the ads/trailers/whatever were a separate file that played after the feature. Also, although I've only admittedly skimmed them (wondering if there's anything relevant hiding in there), they only seem to advertise other Escapist stuff. So... I'm not sure how it pays the bills if it's all in-house.

Because it encourages people to buy the merchandise, which makes them money.
