Sounds like Yahtzee hates this game almost as much as Too Human. Not terribly surprising all things considered.

Excellent review of a game that sounds impossibly bad. I might be returning to World of Warcraft, but I'm not doing it for the fetch quests, the resource gathering, the assignments to kill X amount of monster Y for local idiotic & stationary potentate Z or the arbitrary and keyboard-snapping-in-frustration drop rates. And Monster Hunter Tri sounds like a big pile of that held together with shit.
tbh i dont think that was a fair reveiw it seems like he only played the first few missions ie the tuturial which really doesnt get into the swing of things.

Well the Monster Hunter games from my exp from the PSP version are made exclusively for team playing...i guess thats why they are so popular in japan...its like everybody has a psp there isnt it o_O

Its an endless grind for items and upgrades but if u dont have a team you still cant rly do much.....

I really hate when people say "OMG YOU SHEEP YOU'RE JUST AGREEING WITH YAHTZEE FORM YOUR OWN OPINION!" Look, I don't have unlimited disposable income, I can't play every game in the world and then judge what's good for myself, I have to take other people's word. That said, Yahtzee says himself that he's a video game CRITIC, so of course he's going to find everything that's wrong with it and gloss over any good points.

Ditto. But what can you do? Ignoing it is hard is nearly everyone agrees with him. But whatever. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Especially since I finally completed the full Jhen Mohran armor.
Nice, I'm still sticking with my Qurupecco armour, I like the abilities.

And yeah but as I have said before people who would have just passed this game with no opinion on it will now just say it is a bad game without giving it a chance. Oh well, I will not let it ruin my MH experience.
Oh hell yea. I love the Qurupecco Armor. Increase recovery. Good fire res. And it looks awesome. It's my main armor(That and its def is higher then Jhen)

I realize there's a pretty low chance of Yahtzee actually reading this, but I'll address the VN issue he brought up. Think of it as a really fancy book and not a game. You're 'playing' for the story, which all the other elements exist to support.

MH Tri was my first buy of the MH series, and i absolutely love it. The early quests are gathering humdrum, true, but if you actually speak to the NPC's in the village you learn its to make repairs after a series of earthquakes, as shown in the cinematic when you start the game.

Once you've done those, you get to the monster hunting. Finding a monster, chasing it across zones, fighting it, killing it and carving it, or trapping it. You can break some of their parts, or even cut them off completely. It's a simple formula made complicated by each monster behaving completely differently from the last. One minute you're fighting a giant frilled dinosaur, the next you're in some dank cave fighting off some disgusting leech/lizard hybrid. There's exclusive monsters you'll only see online.

Also those trashing it because its on the wii: It was originally intended for the PS3, but due to the costs of production, it was moved to the wii. And it is fine for it. Loading times are a few moments, never really long enough to annoy. It's perfectly playable with the Wiimote and 'chuk, or the Classic Controller. If you still aren't going to give it a chance, then so be it. It's your choice, and i respect that. But just because Yahtzee doesnt like it, doesnt give you a free pass to write it off also, without having formed you own opinion from your own experience of it.

That and the fact that they take him seriously as a game reviewer. Because of him people will now be calling this a bad game when it really isn't.
I disagree with your opinion and dismiss all fans of this game as mindless cattle merely content with subpar gameplay mechanics and terrible controls.

Just kidding. I don't own a wii. You sound ridiculously smug and pompous though and that's a poor way to sell a game.
Being dissapointed that people don't form their own opinions on something is being smug? This is news to me.

Im glad im not only one who found it tedious at times...some enemies just took too long to kill to be fun.

Still a good game though

My comment aren't directed at those who genuinly agree, but those who pretend to in a vain attempt to somehow appease Yahtzee. Specifically those who haven't given the game achance and merely assume that because Yahtzee says it's shite, that it must be so. These people fail to realise that Yahtzee is easily the biggest troll on the internets right now and should not be taken seriously.

Enjoy misinterpereting everyone elses comments.

It's not one of the worst games. Everyone needs to realise that Yahtzee is a critic. He only cares about the bad stuff, and exaggerates until he gets a good repetitive joke.

The game is great. He never mentioned that it's a challenging game on the Wii for once. He left out a load of stuff. To be fair there is quite a lot of gathering but the wifi quests with friends outweighs this if you need resources quick and you're stuck on single player. I love the way Yahtzee does these videos but you really need to play it before listening to him.

Never quite got Monster Hunter. Treid it once. It was possibly one of the worst games i have ever played and i've played a LOT of bad games (i own shaq-fu for christs sake).

I guess the japanophile backlash will be fun to watch for this collosal grind ridden peice of shit. Perhaps that's worth MH existing in the first place. MH is like tentacle porn, makes no sense outside japan and i don't think i want it to.
@Roseveare: This quote just proved what you're talking about. Hi five.

Ah, I get it now. A game that starts off kinda slow and requires actual skill to kill something and he dismisses it right from the start.

Maybe Yahtzee was one of the brainless fucktards I ended up coming across online.

I played the first Monster Hunter, and I liked it.
I'll probably like this one to.

But from my experience of the first one, the grind is fairly bad.
Mostly this is because the game isn't really all that good for playing offline.
It takes a very long time and a lot of luck to get any good loot.

However, if you play with your friends, or find a nice group to play with, you can get some nice loot very quickly, making the overall ride smoother.

Plus the game had quite a thrilling hunt with the big beasties.
I liked the fact I had to learn their behaviour patterns to successfully take them down.
But some monsters are virtually impossible to take on alone.
Its very different to most MMOs, and is certianly not to everyones tastes.

Yz has an abnormal alignment with me as far as gaming taste goes. At first this had no effect on my purchases. I just noticed what he says he liked I liked and what he said he did not I did not. Then he came up with a game I never heard of and said he liked it, and so I found it on steam and tried it out. That's how it starts, I find that most magazines and online review sites are too apologetic and would have be buying games I wouldn't like. I've bought games based on his reccomendations and it has always worked out well, and in the case of this one I will abstain from one because of his thoughts and feelings.

I kinda get the feeling most of the people who agree have, in fact, not played the game and indeed may not even have played a single monster hunter game at all and therefore don't actually know enough to actually have a valid opinion on the game.

Again, it comes down to my earlier post that points out Yahtzee hates most games, as a comedy critique he has to, or he wouldn't be very funny. Thus using most of his "critiques" to form any sort of opinion on a game is a fool's folly at best.

Yes, the game is grindy and expects you to gather a lot of stuff. However should you actually play farther than the 1 Star quests Yahtzee did you find that a lot of the things you need to kill tend to be giant monsters that can and do murder your face if you make a mistake or generally suck at noticing tells for attacks. Play online and get to Hunter Rank 31 plus and you start fighting monsters that think Nintendo Hard is a ***** difficulty for bitches.

But of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, just please look up all the facts before you do eh?
God, this makes me not want to buy the game more than his review. Everything you see as a plus I see as boring.

I haven't actually watched it yet because the current advertisement is a right ass. Surrounded half the damn screen telling me to click on the button so they can tell me how awesome their game is.

I.E, not just advertising pricks, but arrogant advertising pricks. Only the consumer is allowed to be a prick, so I'm waiting for a different ad to cycle in.

Maybe all you people hating on this game should have played all the other Monster Hunter games....or maybe having a strategy when fighting a huge fucking monster isn't your thing

Also I DO however agree with his last comment, it never should have been put on the Wii, it would have been so much better on the PS3

I'm am seething with rage at the various fanboys of the game complaining that "Now the everyone here at Escapist hates it..." and "He obviously didn't play mulitplayer..." or "he didn't play it long enough..." or whatever.

If you think that everyone at the Escapist is a mindless sheep bleating at Yahtzee's command, then why, exactly, do you post here? Do you like to hear yourself talk? (Yes, there are sheeple here, but they're everywhere. It's up to you to recognize them and filter out their nonsense.)

If you don't pay attention enough/seen enough ZP to have noticed that he has said that he absolutely does not review MP, shouldn't that be chalked up to your ignorance? Same goes for the bit about not playing it long enough. Jesus: he covered that like only 2 episodes ago.

I don't get why this happens every. single. fucking. ZP. Some poor schmuck who really likes the game being reviewed gets all butthurt because somebody said bad things about something he really likes, and suddenly it's as if the house of cards that comprises his entire belief system has been kicked over. Well, guess what? If you're that insecure about your opinions, that's a YOU problem, bub.

Seriously folks, anybody with half a brain realizes that Yahtzee couldn't possibly hate every single game he plays as much as he would like to portray that to be the case: if he did, why would he do it for a living??? Seriously, that would be like working as a crash-test dummy: I don't care how much the pay is, the multiple fractures and internal injuries make it not worth it!

No, what he does is satire and parody, not critique: it's obvious that he stopped looking for good things about games (except when using them to 'change pace' in the presentation) a long, long time ago.

Please, get a grip.

OK, it's too early to keep seething. I'm going to go get my coffee now.
