Painkiller Overdose was like, a user mod that was just very well done so it was put on digital distribution stores and a few copies were sent to places like gamestop - but it still wasn't as good as the first painkiller, but if Yahtzee ever reviews that, then you'll know why, and laugh at the same time.


Also I think it's funny that no one was offended by "Evil Dead for those of you who are American, and fat!"

and I believe you're right about no one caring. I think most of us are savvy to the fact that yatzee makes his living by being a twat much like that **** from hell's kitchen so I think we all just might be alright with it by now. I wish I had Mr. Croshaws' Job, instead of cooking fancypants crap for fancypants sphincter-rings who think I'm beneath them cos I'm not stuffing my face with cute-assembled bits of partially cooked animal flesh and am instead making it for the thankless twats.

LOL Look at the first page, even a mod misunderstood me AND it took this long for him to say something.

I guess everything I post is worthless if it isn't on the first page. I can't exactly "pretend to be a mod" when I say "I'm not a mod - but it would be nice if.." - now if I said "everyone listen to me I have authority and you don't" then I guess it would make sense.

I dont know if anyone has already said this before me (And I'm not gonna search through all 340 comments to check) but Painkiller and its expansion is now available for download via Steam thanks to Yahtzee's review. They even quote him in the advert they have on the mainpage.
"All you really need to know is that there is a gun that shoots shurikens and lightening"
Wonder if they got permission to use it ^_^
Anyways I saw the trailer for it and am already downloading the demo through steam. But it's on sale for only $10 U.S. So I'll probably buy it anyways. That and Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Ok I just played the Demo of Painkiller and I have to say "OMFG WOOT" in stupid l33t kiddy speech. Cause thats what this game instills in me ^_^ That kiddy level brutality and excitement for pure carnage and non stop action. Its like Doom but with more BALLS! ^_^
So buying this game through Steam. Thankyou Yahtzee for reviewing this gem!

i don't think i'll get the game, to quote an internet friend of mine: "The game is awesome early on when you are killing weak enemies with awesome guns, but its not so fun when the invincible juggernauts come at you from all directions"

Soul Collections don't make it any different? You have to use Black Tarrot cards right too.

What I think is funny, is that the hardest boss is the first one.

I'm playing Painkiller on its hardest setting and though its tough as hell I'm really enjoying myself.

I found Alastor to be way harder. I killed Necrogiant first try and in enough time to get the tarot card.

Easiest boss has to be the end boss. I was kinda disappointed there.

If you want a challenge, try getting the black tarot card from the "City on Water" level. That was a pain in the ass.

Also, once you're done nightmare, try out trauma difficulty. No souls, no morphing, tougher enemies, no quicksaves. Only advantage is you can keep your cards.

I am waiting for Yahtzee to review a Shin Megami Tensei game, either one where the world gets destroyed in the first hour of the game, young school children shoot themselves in the head constantly, or a demon eats your mom and talks about how good she tasted.

Yeah, but does that cancel the fact that it is still a JRPG? I have heard of the game, and its an interesting tweak on one of the old JRPG cliches, but it still falls into the problems of the others.

Yahtzee, I have to agree with you here. This is a CLASSIC style shooter so to speak. Go in, kill stuff, and keep killing stuff. Not to mention it's bloody. It may be considered "Bad" cause it doesn't have a story. Don't get me wrong, sometimes a story can make or break a game. But this isn't one of those games that you need a story for. My version of the story, "Your in hell, you got guns, now get the HELL out alive." I kinda thought Doom 3 was brilliant though, so I have to disagree with that analogy of it not being a true successor to the Doom series. It made me freak out (perhaps too much at times) just like the old games did when I was little. There were still secret places to access, there were still plenty of monsters to kill, and the story I BELIEVE actually added to the game in this case. The voice acting was good, the dialog was believable, and it helped me get into the atmosphere of the game, which a believe that's what a story is supposed to do. Still, kudos for giving this unrecognized gem recognition it needed.

It's "Dead Alive". Great gorefest zombie movie, go rent it. I think it was Peter Jackson's 1st film.

*cough* 4th *cough*. I never saw The Valley, but Meet The Feebles and Bad Taste are both cult classics.

this sounds like a fun ffs! I might to go out of my way to have a look at this game. I'm really get annoyed by the fact that ffs games are trying to force a story into their game. Its not that I don't care what the game's objective is, its just that it should be secondary to the fact that I play this game to kill things. Don't get me wrong, I did like the style that half-life took, but when it comes to replay ability, it doesn't have any. Once you figure out the puzzles in the game, I don't want to play that map again.
Wolvenstein 3d, Doom II, Duke Nukem 3d, and Shadow Warrior for the win!

Cool review, can't wait for the next one.

Clearly you have never fought Jinapachi in Tekken 5 - there's a difference between "challenge" and "cheap bullshit just so the boss isn't killed on the first try, and instead, on the 1,000th"

Also, Necrogiant killed you unintentionally most of the time, it was so irritating. Although in general, I agree with you.
