...I...I think I have to play Papers, Please now...

I'm not even sure if I want to...I HAVE to.

I'd never even heard of it before now but...yeah...I think I have to play this title.
Play the demo here [http://dukope.com/], it's pretty similar to the game, so you can check it out correctly.

Hay! I have you know that I almost got laid by a pretty cute women while talking about Ouran High School Host Club... Of course, I was cock-blocked by the jock equivalent to an otaku, who kept on using Gurren Laggan references to talk about his dick... But, enough about the dream I had last night...

OT: Brothers looks to be a pretty okay game... But, even when I saw a few people on YouTube playing it, I don't actually see the motivation to actually play the game myself... Too bad there's no movie equivalent to this game that comes to mind, though... (I need to re-watch the Neverending Story trilogy again, though...)

However, Paper, Please seems to be the game that I would play when I need something to remind me that the world is grey, even when you coat it in black or white morality... Now that I think about it, I don't have XBL, let alone an actual 360... I wonder what the equivalent to this game is, besides "something-something-life-something"...

Jokes against transsexuals were completely unnecessary and completely offensive.
I agree.
However, this videos does not contain any jokes *against* transsexuals, only a joke against hypocrites that happens to also contain a transsexual person.

The ending line caused me to laugh out loud for real, brilliant.

And yes Papers, Please! is absurdly engaging for what it is.

Yahtzee, you better have an anti-crap shield for the shitstorm over that transgender joke.

OT: I remember playing Paper's Please back when the free demo was released, I didn't even know there was a full release. Just bought it.

Thank you, Yahtzee, for picking "Papers, Please" for this review. This game really needed more spotlight.
Also, that "Brothers" game sounds interesting enough.

I think he meant that part about single-coop, not visual gag later.

I need to get this too. Sounds like the kind of mind-fuck I'd enjoy. Also, I came in thinking the same thing about the joke, but now I'm curious if there is going to be more people bracing for a shitstorm that people making one.

That's an actual rule in the game (though it never spelled out like that). There's often comes in someone who's "sex" in their passport is different from how they look like.

"Are you a man or a woman?" - player character asks. And person answers: "I am man/I am a woman/As it says in the papers/Papers are correct/What kind of question is that?!". But by Arstotzkian laws, that will not do.

Finding that disreptancy authorizes player to strip-search them with special scanner. And if their genitals do not match up with "sex" field in passport (though they often do match up), player is allowed to "detain" them, with soldiers leading them away. Or just deny them entry, leaving them with no job/family meeting.

"Papers, please" set in the early-80's AND it's about eastern block. It's unkind, but historically acurate, and adds to the oppresing atmosphere.

"No fatties" rule also exist. Citizens of Arstotzka must carry additional ID with them when re-entering the country, and foreigners at some point will start carrying an identity supplement that later will be merged with an entry permit.
ID and supplement both contain fields "height" and "weight". (Supplement also have short description and thumbprint). Applicants are standing on scales, and if they gained/lost weight, that authorizes strip-scan as well. Difference in height/appearance leads to a fingerprint check.

I bought the first two seasons of Beebop the other day never having got to watch it as a kid when Toonami was still a thing... it's pretty good.

The point of that was obviously "they are very discriminatory" not "fuck transexuals"

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons what a tautologically fucked up title.

Just reading the tile makes we want to go to the dentist to have some fun.

Have you seen a zero punctuation episode before?

If not, did you notice the incredibly tasteless holocaust joke in the middle of this episode?

Sometimes, in comedy, people say things which are crass, insensitive or unpleasant. Sometimes, they do this because they are actually serious, or because they're trying to appeal to people who are actually racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic or otherwise unpleasant. There is such a thing as "laughing through bared teeth". Such comics don't tend to get very far nowadays because they aren't funny, racists/homophobes/misogynists/etc simply pretend that they're funny as a political act.

Other times, people make offensive statements ironically as a way of breaking social taboos for comedic effect. This works precisely because the audience would not admit to being racist, homophobic, transphobic etc and will thus find the statement shocking or unexpected. If this were not true, the joke would not be funny, it would be just as shitty a joke as the above.

I'm not saying such comedy can never be offensive. Yahtzee has certainly said a couple of things over the years which I personally found to be in quite poor taste, but generally speaking the irony is quite thick.

The true test of comedy, for me, is whether it translates into actual hatred, bullying or belittling, and the only people I've ever seen get actually harassed over anything Yahtzee has said are CoD fans.

I get the impression Yahtzee rather enjoyed himself creating this review, as it has a greater-than-usual quantity of throw-away visual gags.

"Are you *ever* going to stop banging on about that?"

"Scream if you want to go faster."

"Permission to use run-on sentences, that is to say, sentences that keep appending bits with commas, like David Frost trying to stall for time as his secret lover flees through the window of the bathroom, or possibly the laundry."

And of course, one of the Brothers with his head stuck in an iron fence saying, "It happened again."
