I did not want to laugh at the fart jokes, but did I? Yeah, I shamefully did. Overall awesome review and I really should think about picking this game up.

You know, watching Yahtzee's video review, there is a moment at the end where he totally distracts me from the video review. If he was talking about a grim, but awesome story, I'll have to concentrate on the review again, because ...

Well, you know the bit where he's saying that compared to SO:tL modern games are dull and insensitive, where Ye Olde Games like DOOM were elegant in the simplicity of their plot? And then he refers to that as 'gaming childhood' and holds up this big technicolor lollipop?

Every time I see that technicolor lollipop, I instantly flashback to "Meet the Pyro". That seriously breaks the flow of the review for me. In a way, I'm afraid that the two may become linked in my mind - even though I don't have immediate plans to play SO:tL. Also, I can't help but feel vaguely suspicious that Yahtzee intentionally put the technicolor lollipop in the video to create an empathic link to another disturbing video. "Do you believe in majik?...."

Um, i have several movies and books etc. that i would file under: "One of the best ________ that i never want to read/play/view again."

These are kind of important to me, enriching my view of the media and the world in some way. Even if i don't want to experience them again i don't want to miss those.

I always watch ZP every week, and I like it, but I dont feel the need to comment on it.

This week's episode was so well done, so funny, and so true that I have to show my appreciation. Well done Mr. Croshaw, well done.

Honestly the only way you can do a shooting game than condemns war yet glorifies it, but doesn't feel disingenuous (you kinda have to glorify war if your making a "game" about war) is to do so satirically...like CannonFodder.

in my opinion games are trying too hard to be like movies..

Got this game purely by Yahtzee's recommendation. I feel like I got kicked in the balls. In a good way. I have no idea how that's possible but it is. Jesus what a depressing experience. Glorious.

The game was a passable shooter, story was poorly done. trying to get people to experience things they have no clue about other than a visual cue never works other than the movie theater rollercoaster ride ride in 3d. The point i am making is the devs try to make a run at getting people involved in the character and no one knows how these types of soldiers react to a given situation, the vast majority anyway, very few of us do and we cry BS, the devs flail at trying to create a story of a soldier spinning into insanity.

At the very least the plot should have been more than toilet paper, meaning when we hear, "i met him once at such and such a place" has now boiled down to walker trying to save an officer he doesnt know and the story no doubt hoping we forget that one line, i never did. It is the equivelant of me getting an order of fries from a Mickey D's drive through and finding out months later the server was killed in an auto accident and me going on a brainless vendetta mission to avenge the person that handed me those french fries, that is all this story boils down to.

As a shooter it was fine, and the game was fun, with the exception of Zero choice except those the devs used to push this linear shooter along with its on the rails story. Do not try to state this game gave you a choice, it did not. People need to understand the difference between a dev giving you a choice and you making a choice to change something or a situation, totally different things.

Like i typed earlier, you can sit in a theater watching a 3d movie of a roller coaster, the seats moving slightly to give you that fake experience, or you can go out and experience the things that let you identify with the character, both are totally different experiences and both will leave you with totally differing views. The devs failed at this type of story because they do NOT know how or what is needed to make this unlikely chain of event happen. if they tried to to copy Apocolypse now in a modern setting, the devs failed horribly.

I respectfully disagree. I believe the game does give you a choice. You may not like the quality of the choices to your own taste but when you have to make a decision on something, that's a choice.

Maybe it's because I didn't go into this game with unrealistic expectations that I got to enjoy the actual game/story. But not everyone likes the same thing.

So it's a First person Heavy Rain with the part you kill the drug dealer over and over again?
I suppose its the only thing that is noteworthy of the game really, from what I read at least.

Obviously you haven't played Modern Warfare to know what is Grimdark.

I also played this game after this review. I went through the first half or so thinking 'Okay, where's all the bad stuff at'?

Then... came the part with the white phosphorous.

I felt like absolute shit afterwards. :(

Well, there IS a demo. I played it yesterday after watching ZP, but I really didn't like it. I came from playing halflife bevor, and the movement felt really obstructed. Why can I jump over that chest high wall, but not over that knee high sand bags?
You're not supposed to notice.

That sort of BS was one of my reasons for not liking Bulletstorm; unnecessary invisible walls really breaks the immersion. There was a section where you're fighting through an open air cafe. There are several levels of flooring, but the difference in height is not worth mentioning, about 18" or so. But even though there is no railing, you can't walk off the edge. You have to mosey over (during the bullet-kerplunk) to the stairs, so that you can descend in the mandated three 6" increments. I wanted to quickly drop down because I saw a object that I wanted to take cover behind, but sure enough I failed to move in the direction anticipated. The freaking guy was walking down the side of a building earlier in the game, how bad can 18" be? I can deal with it not being an open world game, but don't rub my nose on the glass to prove it.

I wasn't gonna think about this game twice, but if it has a story that Yahtzee considers darker than black, who am I to question?
