I've just started a writing project called Zombie a Week, where I'm doing a serial novel on zombies. A new chapter is posted every week.

Anyway, I haven't really picked all of my directions yet and I was hoping to get some advice from zombie lovers and maybe other writers on where I should go with this. The purpose of this project is fun, not depth or whatnot.

What I have so far is that a compound that can heal wounds and revive dead flesh is discovered at a facility in 1962 Soviet Russia. The first chapter is online:

So, my question is what you'd like to see in a work of zombie fiction. Are there any ideas or imaginings you've had?

When you say, "Heal wounds and revive dead flesh", does that just mean the standard zombie formula (corpses walking), or do their wounds recover? Do their limbs grow back?

As for the writing, please, please please please, please please, please, please, please don't make the characters idiots. That means no investigating strange noises on your own if you know there are zombies around. It means no splitting up unless they are forced to. It means holding onto their guns when they find them, and only using radios when they need to so the batteries last. It means making them real people, who would have seen zombie films in their fictional lives, so they would have some ideas of what (not) to do. It basically means they follow common zombie apocalypse sense, unless they have been turned insane by the horrors they've seen, or something like that.

Just make them believably intelligent characters, and I'll be happy.

I haven't decided how resilient yet, but I know that my zombies are going to be more resilient than your standard fare. I don't think I'm going to go as far as limbs growing back, but wounds healing and then mutating is likely.

You have to have the zombies be conditioned to be deathly afraid of shotguns and shotgun related equipment.

It's not serious, but it could be a comedic relief!
