Zombie outbreak? Not happening.

So I've been thinking, with all this talk about surviving a zombie outbreak and and your survival plans etc etc. Would it actually happen? On a global scale I mean, would everyone one become zombie or would the military just nuke the zombies before it gets too serious and cleanse the area of the virus/infection? It's the only way to be sure and rather than wasting money and lives on containing it.

What do you think?

EDIT: Yes I know it's not going to happen,we're talking hypotheticaly people. Have some imagination.

Too late, zombie outbreak has already happened, take a look at the average person on the street if you require evidence.

Well if it DID happen (massive stretch of the imagination) in the "true" zombie style (like 28weeks later style - walking zombies ... no) then it'd go one of two ways:

1. Zombie virus starts, military/police cordon off area, zombies killed, area purged of zombie virus, the end.

2. Zombie virus is extremely virulent, hardcore and nasty, being airborne and all that, transmitted by pretty much any animal - we all become infected and there's nothing you can do about it, we all die, the end.

Wouldn't be anything like the movies, ever.

I reckon if it did happen, it would happen like the films. Most would be reluctant to kill other humans until it was too late. Regardless, I don't think there is any virus out there that can cause flesh decay and resistance to bullets, along with mental decay and survival instinct overwriting.

Might just be me, but swine flu wasn't exactly the biggest problem, it was on the news and a few people died. If it were zombies it wouldn't spread anywhere near as easily. A few people getting sick, yeah, keep things running, flesh eating zombie? Yeah, now's time to hibernate your country and put the military on code "shoot anything that moves".

In other words, it'd stop in it's tracks.

Well as long it is as deadly as the swine flu, lets get it on
At least around here it was 1/10 of the dead a normal annual flu causes.
But if its isnt detected immediatly , yes it will spread, thanks to planes and the humans greed.
Depends on the time of incubation. People will travel, and people will take money to get people out of quarantane areas.
Better get your little house far away on a high mountain. Then wait.

There are three ways to make a zombie:

1. Souls don't die properly and come back to the bodies with limited cognitive ability, to put it politely.
2. A necromancer raises corpses.
3. A virus infects people, making them savage and bloodthirsty.

I won't go into detail on number 1 because I don't want to argue about whether or not the soul exists, but this would be the hardest type to control because it wouldn't spread from person to person and would instead affect every person who dies.

Number 2 isn't exactly possible, since last time I looked, necromancers don't exist. This would be fairly easy to deal with because killing the necromancer (usually) destroys the zombies.

Number 3 is the only slightly plausible one because viruses do exist. The outcome of this one would depend on the stupidity of the people designated to control the virus. Remember, keeping test subjects is a bad idea.

Agreed, as much as we may love our respective significant others or family members. If they get pulled down by zombies, I am not going back for them.

Well it depends on the incubation time of the virus and the size and place of the initial outbreak. I think that if it would happen allot of people would panic and flee in their cars and in effect get caught in one hell of a traffic jam. And if someone there was infected and then reanimated all those people would practically be stuck in their cars and not really able to flee. If any of you have read World War Z it is pretty much how I would imagine it happening.

Also using nukes might help somewhat but it would have less of an effect, depending on the type of zombie, then it would against normal humans as they might not be affected by radiation and be able to survive much worse injuries.
