Zombie Survival Guide game?

I would love it if they made a game based somewhat off of the Zombie Survival Guide. I feel like Left 4 Dead was spoiled by the fast "rabies" zombies, relatively massive amounts of ammo, and special zombies.

In my dream game the zombies would be slow, headshot-only kills, and bites would be deadly. Instead of health you would have an "armor" meter or "Clothes" meter or something, where as you get attacked what you're wearing slowly wears down until skin is exposed, then if your skin gets opened you're infected and can't continue after your current level. You could choose your armor at the beginning of each level or scenario but factors like weight and noise affect how quick you move or how much you attract zombies.

Ammo is extremely limited and melee is emphasized more than it was in L4D. The melee would work similarly to, say, Chronicles of Riddick or Oblivion, where you can alter the direction of your attacks. A good crowbar to the head would be worth just as much as a solid headshot and it would save you the ammunition.

Anyway, I'll probably come up with more later, but I'd love to hear my fellow Escapists ideas.

One thing is that slow moving zombies dont make that much fun gameplay, unless they completly swarm the screen, its pretty easy to kill or to avoid.

In that thing I think L4D does good with fast moving zombies.

OR you could stop playing video games and just read the book.

I read it 4 times man, I'd love an interactive experience that would be true to the book as opposed to hollywood zombies.

EDIT: Oh, also there could be multiple game modes. There could be Assault, where you go out through a town zombie hunting. Defense, where you need to hold off waves of zombies and go out into the town/city/whatever to get supplies for your base. There would be significantly more zombies in this mode and the emphasis would be on not attracting the hordes of undead. Flight mode would be more hectic than the other modes, and here the point is just to get from point to point during the daylight before escaping the city. This mode is most like L4D, but once you make it to your safe point (you can pick your shelter for the night), and you have to defend your shelter for the duration of the night. The undead would come in waves relative to how many you attracted during your daylight run and you have to clear as many as you can before daylight when you have to keep moving, or your next safe point will be hounded by even more zombies. Depending on your moving speed there can be 3-5 days in your flight.

With Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising and Resident Evil, I think the zombie game genre is covered. I think it's time to come up with a new apocalypse scenario.

Excellent ideas here. Here's mine... Imagine a large sandbox world, similar to Fallout, Oblivion, GTA,etc. filled with slow moving, "zombie survival guide" type zombies. And in your travels you might meet some interesting survivors... There could be some guys holding a base or two, some of the classical nutjobs that just want to shoot you,or even some trying to recreate civilisation, like the zombie survival guide suggests. I suppose you could think of it as a fuse between Fallout 3 and Dead Rising. It would be awesome. Expand on this idea, if it pleases you.

That sounds like an amazing single-player experience, and you could have friends jump in-and-out at random spawn points all over the world and you two have to communicate via radio (some sort of voice-chat) to find each other.

EDIT: There has to be SOMEBODY out there skilled and determined enough to make this kind of overhaul mod for Fallout 3, minus the multiplayer of course. You could even leave most of the FO3 structures in place, like the Enclave, Megaton, settlements, just have the populated areas surrounded by chain link fences and replaces the creatures with altered ghouls.

That would be good, if there was someone so skilled with too much time on their hands. However I was thinking of a completely new look, as if the outbreak is still fresh. You should also be able to make anything you want out of junk, like a fuse between Fallout 3 and Spore. You could design your own weapons, clothes, shelters, etc. And the multiplayer would be a must have.

Well yeah, but you'd have to be careful with what you're doing, like you could put metal bracers on your fatigue jacket to add to your arm armor but it would increase noise and weight.

Also the top tier of armor could be, like, kevlar or something.

I would love to see a Zombie Survival Guide game. Hordes of slow zombies, my only defense being the clothes I am wearing, a crowbar, and a semi automatic rifle with a small amount of ammo? I'm there.

I have a brilliant idea for a customised suit. It's made of raw meat, for your zombie bait candidate.

So long as the game focussed on Zombie survival. Setting up/building defences and running to the supermarket/avoiding the gun wielding and scared masses as you scramble for supplies. Eventually after a few levels the zombie threat will have grown considerably, leading to a level where you have to gather the resources you have left and take your vehicle (if still there) and go on the run.

A few levels on I suppose finding seeds and making a new base of opperations would be later objectives.

The game would only work if you could go where you pleased. Say you only have 12 in game hours before the Zombies arrive, thus you need to set up defences as quickly as possible.

Choosing your destination would be crucial as well, you could walk into a zombie infested supermarket, head down to Mexico without water, go into the wilderness and attempt to set up base, or head north and hope the Zombies frees.

The game would be very tactical. No doubt leveling would be a mechanic as well, your team find books/through experience learn how to grow plans, set up barricades, drive, do First Aid.

I guess, haha. The better option would be to get four buddies, stock up on supplies and boatloads of ammunition, and the game there would be a bell tower.

"Boatloads" gives me an idea. There should be a mainland and lots of other little islands. The Zombies can get to these islands because they can walk underwater while you have to find a boat. Or alternatively you could build one.

That, my friend, would be bitching. You could need to collect supplies for the trip and would need to be careful and bring friends to tackle each island. Then you could set up a perimeter around the boat and be forced to hold off initial hordes, or just leave if the island looks too dangerous from the water.

I liked WWZ a little more, the guide is really just deadpan comedy more than a serious addition to the zombie mythos.

That said, WWZ talked about the reemergence of 17th century tactics as the best methods to fight "zack." This is why I am a strong supporter of a Zombie: Total War mod (empire: total war mod, that is) based on the world of WWZ.
