A couple days ago in Austin, TX, someone hacked a series of electronic road signs, the kind that usually flash things like "left lane closed ahead, merge right." The new message said "Zombies in area! Run." This lasted a couple hours before the signs were set to the messages that the city intended.
First, if I saw this while driving, I'd probably laugh myself right into oncoming traffic. Second, while I think it's absolutely hilarious, I wouldn't really want to do this, because the signs are there to warn of odd traffic patterns, and this may have caused some serious delay.
The article I was reading went on to remind us all how serious this is, and how it's a class C misdemeanor and all of that. They ended with the bit that I've pasted below.
"Speculation among the tech-savvy on the Internet is that the signs were inspired by the video game Call of Duty 5, World at War, which is the top game in the country right now and features 'nazi zombies.'" In other words, it was a gamer (to be fair, it probably was), and this happened because of video games.
What do we, as gamers think? Funny? Dangerous? Both? I wanted to share this with those of us who don't read the news, and I'm curious as to what the rest of us think.
EDIT: clicked on wrong board when I posted. Meant to be on the off-topic board. Off topic win.
