Actually, this isn't the first time Zoo Tycoon strolled off PC. There was also a DS version, but I hear it wasn't good.

I have an older version of Zoo Tycoon (3, I think) that I break out every now and again and do enjoy.
There was only 2 main Zoo Tycoon games, though they had many expansions (the original had 2 expansions and a complete collection with some extra goodies, sequel had 4).
OT: Ever since the announcement of the Xbone Zoo Tycoon came out, I revisited my originals and plowed through the campaigns. Flawed in many ways, but I think it's still possible to have fun with it (though the visuals of Zoo Tycoon 2 haven't aged the best and the AI is derptacular to the point where they're running and screaming from a caged animal that's not doing anything). Not to mention that there is a huge library of mods. Though this one is certainly not a system seller for me. The game modes are pretty much identical to Zoo Tycoon 2. Visually it looks the way it should, but part of what made these games great was the customization. If everything is pre-built, there isn't as much to do or maintain (at least it seems that way). One good thing about Zoo Tycoon 2 was that you could really customize your exhibits well, from creating waterfalls to making mixed-species/biome exhibits. Zoo Tycoon could use a modern update with polished up visuals, animal/guest AI, and specialized mechanics, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind.
What I'm curious about is that this could be an easy sell for DLC. ZT1 and 2 vanilla games were a bit emaciated without the mods or expansions. As the expansions went on, you got dinosuars and marine animals, as well as some other mechanics and tweaks that made the final products so fun (for example, with Jim's problem of "building yourself into a corner", ZT2 expansions had transportation and elevated pathways. Elevated pathways pretty much give you twice the building room for guests). I wonder what will happen here or how the game's longevity will be.
