Some game play to chew on.

It looks boring, this is a shame because I love Pokemon and would play this game if it was good.
Yeah, I agree on both counts. This could have been the first Facebook game I would play if they actually took the good parts from Pokemon. Oh well, Black and White 2 are coming out in less than a month. I'll get my fix.

On that note, what are some good alternatives to Pokemon in the whole monster battle game thing?

I've played Dragon Quest's version, it was neat. Any others?
Not exactly like Pokemon, but Tales of Symphonia Dawn of The New World lets you capture and use monsters in battle. You also get to evolve them in order to make them steronger and to increase max level. There's a lot of hate for this game, but I'd say it's quite good.

Sensationalist much?
If you cared to look at 1 minute of gameplay, a blind person could tell that this has nothing to do with pokemon beyond the vague "enslave monsters" concept. Just because it's zynga doesn't mean you have to pull stuff out your rear to cater to popular opinion.

While there's a clear line of influence from Pokemon to Montopia, the gameplay actually has more in common with another popular social game, DeNA's Rage of Bahamut.

Obviously, Montopia is different enough from both games to avoid legal repercussions.
All I can say is that I'm guessing you skimmed the article.

Oh god that was one of the most boring trailers/gameplay videos I have ever watched. I think I found a new cure for my insomnia.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Hang on, was that kompu gacha I saw at 1:42?

If there's any way to drop real money on extra uses of that machine, then that explains the desire to move this project out of Japan. After massive abuse of virtual gambling disguised as gacha machines in mobile and online games, Japan had to go so far as to outright ban it specifically (May 2012 ruling).

Wow..really.. I mean..again? I'm.. I shouldn't let this surprise me. They are about as creatively dead as anyone can get. Why does this company deserve to exist._. It hurts my brain.

Ah, Zynga. The Denis Leary of video games, if you will.

All I do now is laugh at them for their pretentiousness, now. Although, I'll be laughing even harder if/when they sued so hard their cash stream gets...

Wow... that has got to be the most linear and uninteresting game I've seen for a very long time. It reminds me of the old flash game Press Space To Win Action RPG [http://www.notdoppler.com/superpressspacetowinactionrpg2009.php]. You literally just keep pressing one button to adventure around. Even the combat is skipped. If it wasn't for the cutesy art there'd be absolutely no reason whatsoever to play it.

I just laugh for the day when Zynga's bear-poking goes too far, and they get mauled to bureaucratic and financial death.

Yeah no. I will be buying White 2 when it comes out. No knock off is getting my money!
Yup. Don't need to play a knockoff when I can play the real thing.

Oh lord, that looks terrible, not only for the complete lack of any gameplay (seriously, the entire thing is just walking a straight path to the left and randomly finding loot or monsters) but if you pay attention you can see there are adverts and microtransactions littering the screen every second. You've found a single gem - buy more now! You've come across a ridiculously unbalanced legendary monster that you couldn't possibly defeat buy an attack catered to be specifically necessary for this exact situation and this alone, you'll die otherwise.
For every one textbox of gameplay there's a microtransaction textbox and an advert box. Sounds like my kind of fun!
