Not sure what that "gay speech" is supposed to be. But that is probably me being a foreign speakers still struggling with some of the finer implications or associations of certain ways to speak English.
"Gay speech", put simply, is a collection of several different but often related speech styles which are all associated with gay men and tend to lead listeners to the conclusion that the speaker is gay.

One of the strongest markers of gay speech is pronouncing the letters S or Z with extra sibilance (like sss or zzz) or dentalizing them (pronouncing 'th' instead of 's'). The latter is why gay speech is sometimes equated with lisping, although it's pretty rare and different from lisping as a speech disorder.

That is a different thing in kind than blatant advertising of sexual availability.
What sexual availability?

It's literally just some people's normal way of speaking. Why would you in any way think it's sexual. What the hell.

Gay men don't need to advertise sexual availability. There are literally apps for that. There are saunas and sex clubs which you can just go to if you're looking for that. It's not remotely hard to have sex if you're gay. Ironically though, it becomes enormously harder the more femme you are.

Just to be clear... you know that hypermasculine concept was created by gay people right?
I'm aware, although I would also say it's complicated. It intersects with broader cultural trends, and was also a very useful tool for advertisers because you can cross market to gay and straight men simultaneously.

It's still gross though, and fortunately the next generation doesn't seem to be buying it.

If a man tries to put on the charm with a woman, and the woman thinks he's a creep, would you say "What are you talking about, he wasn't trying to be sexual, there are apps for that"? No? I didn't think so.

So the show director of Dear White People (who is white herself) is now boycotting Netflix because Dave Chappelle offended her by telling jokes she didn't like in a Netflix special she presumably chose to watch.......

I mean didn't Solo fail not long after that and Rise of Skywalker see lower numbers?
Solo was a prequel nobody asked for that released while Black Panther was still in theaters right before Infinity War came out and Rise of Skywalker was dogshit that still pulled Return of the Jedi numbers

(Solo is also criminally underrated and I will die on that hill)

Solo did fail, no denying that. Mind you they spent way too much money on it. Like BoxOfficeMojo lists a budget of $275million and made a hair under $400million. And like I enjoyed Solo but watching it I couldn't tell you where the fuck they spent that money if that figure is accurate.

Rise of Skywalker still made a cool billion dollars.

It was honestly better than it had any right to be, despite Lucasfilm meddling. I'll admit I enjoyed it more than any Disney Star Wars shit shoveled forth until Mandalorian.

Disney wanted "different but same", and shied away from growing the Star Wars brand thematically when it was called for while unintentionally undermining the very politics they were trying to shoehorn into the story (this being a recurring theme). Solo would absolutely have worked -- and in many ways couldn't have been more ideal -- as the action-comedy heist flick Lord and Miller were reportedly making it into, given any sensible read on the original trilogy holds Han was the actual comedy relief in the movie rather than the damn droids.

Rogue One had the same damn problem, being it needed to be a serious, gritty, war film to have any thematic or narrative purpose, and Disney got spooked from it.

They extended the shooting time, brought in a new director, recast the villain, and reshot 85% of the movie.

"Creative differences" between the previous directors and the producer. Reportedly, the first cut of Solo was a tad less "family-friendly Goodfellas" and a bit more "regular Goodfellas"

You know I'd forgotten they'd done such extensive reshoots. So that explains that.

Rogue One was fine, as far as I remember audiences were pretty on board with it and it got positive word of mouth.

Lmao, and Return of the Jedi lost money from Empire Strikes Back which lost money from A New Hope. In roughly the same percentages.

That's because they were all bad movies.
I'm sure that if we give them 15 years and a new trilogy to fight over they'll crawl their way back up to fine/good. Happened with Return of the Jedi. And the special editions. And the prequels.

For my part, I thought Solo was pretty awful.

...Have lost track of this conversation and don't know what Star Wars has to do with the thread, but that's my input on the Solo quality issue.
