So it's pretty likely that the regular class systems will be back in the Portal mode. They left a bit of the code for the BF3 classes in the beta it seems.

Would be pretty embarrassing for DICE if Portal becomes more popular than the main game.

"I reject your gameplay loop, and substitute my own!"
Honestly, the Battlefield community fixing DICE's fuck ups is nothing new. In BF4, the plethora of server options really allowed for a much different feeling game. Adjusted TTK, spawn delays, HUD elements, etc. Which might actually be the reason they removed the server browser from BF1 and BFV. As someone who didn't get to play BF3 or BFBC2 at their height, I'm actually quite excited for Portal.

Except to play Portal mode you still need to buy the game. Dice don't technically lose in that scenario.

Oh this game is gonna sell like hotcakes. How could it not, when they've ensured it appeals to as much people as possible.

But for DICE to spend all this time on their "innovative" new Battlefield experience only to learn that fans preferred recycled content from games more than a decade old, that's gotta be a kick in the nards.

Apparently in a post-beta survey, sent to some participants, one of the questions was something to the tune of "Were specialists better than classes from previous Battlefield games, yes or no?"

So at least DICE are aware of the criticisms.

I would be surprised if the game stripped out the Specialists, but I would also be surprised if the game launched with the specialists untouched.

At the very least, I would be surprised if the unrestricted weapon/gadget system is still in place.

I've seen a surprising number people in support of this. "I've always wanted to run with a sniper and med bag". Which is... interesting. And doesn't bode well for the game, if people are excited to finally have the freedom to camp on roofs with infinite health. But at the same time, I can see how a newcomer to the franchise would be happy with the system. So let's hope DICE actually thinks about it for once.

This definitely seems more like a mode that is suited to the specialist system. If DICE wants to save face, making specialists exclusive to Hazard Zone would an easy way out. But they definitely don't have the time for that anymore.

Looking back, a lot of the new gimmicks for the game seem like they were added just for Hazard Zone. Specialists, the attachment system, classless weapons. Which makes it even weirder that this literally the first time we've gotten a look at the mode, a month before release.

Every time someone says "I wish they would put X in the game", I want to ask them "would you be okay with that if everyone but you had access to X?".
This is my mindset behind why the grappling hook needs to be nerfed hard. I'm sure its fun as fuck to use, but Jesus, what an annoying mechanic to fight against. I expected it to work more like they do in Rainbow 6 Siege. They need to be more tactical, not a "I wanna go here now" button.

The same goes for sliding. It probably feels great to use, but man does it look stupid from another perspective. Apparently really complicates the hitboxes too.

Welp, it looks like they are doubling down on the specialists. They might work on hazard zone, but all the gameplay from this video looks like were captured during the conquest.

Does it have that mothership vs defenders mode that was the best part of 2142?

It's the only reason I could be interested in this at all.

No, the last game to have something like this was BF4 I beleive, and only in one of the content packs (using modern aircraft carriers instead of flying fortresses).

That's a shame, that mode was the shit, I loved sneaking around the ship trying to take it down from the inside and how easily that could devolve into an aerial combat with stolen ships or having to flee in panic to defend a point that was about to be taken.

I curse EA for closing the fan servers.

They put out a blog post saying how team play totally ISN'T ruined, and that the beta experience wasn't complete, etc, etc. Suuuure.

Anyway, yup, nice to see that none of these new specialists have abilities better than the grapple hook. Maybe the wingsuit one? Just for her explosives.

They did give one of the specialists literal wallhacks.
Exactly. It's just a fucking wallhack, absolutely zero skill. I think the grapple hook needs heavy nerfing, but even its current implementation requires actual thought when you use it. This is just "press button to see enemy". Hell, her passive is even more ridiculous. Her wallhacks will apply to any enemy shooting at her. Imagine being rewarded for getting shot in a video game.

This is exactly what I was expecting. Either you have specialists who are completely fucking useless, or you have specialists who are obviously OP. Good luck to DICE, how a dev that can't even balance weapons AND vehicles will be able to balance this specialist shit too is beyond me.

And again, the insult to injury, all of this is just to sell cosmetics and was probably intended for Hazard Zone, clearly the game they originally wanted.

Man I have such a rage boner for this game. This was supposed to be the game that I would build a PC for. Oh well, blessing in disguise, with PC part prices these days.

These abilities are straight out of Apex Legends, which makes perfect sense since they brought on a bunch of Apex people to help Dice build this game.

Not just a bunch of Apex people, but Vince Zampella himself. And I think the guy does great work, but if I wanted fucking Apex or CoD, I'D PLAY THOSE GAMES. And frankly, those games look a lot better than 2042. If I wanted to play Battlefield, where the hell am I supposed to go?
