Today there will be another Sony's State of Play showcase. This time the intent is to showcase 20 minutes of third party games as a focus. Which means likely no information on God of War, Horizon, Gran Turismo, etc. Most because we don't really need updates on those games because we've essentially got release dates/windows for all those titles and there is little left to tease in that regard.

Since the past couple of State of Play's have been mostly 1st and 2nd party titles, this showcase is a chance for us to see what some of the 3rd party folks have been up too. Final Fantasy 16 maybe? Remake Part 2? I can only hope, though I'm not holding my breath.

Any 3rd party titles you guys want to see prior to this afternoon's reveal?

Starting off with another Battle Royal game because we simply don't have enough of those. Ugh.
Coming from Suda 51 and is an addition to the Let It Die world somehow.

Looks better than Fornite and PUBG, so I'll give it that. I am surprised it's going in this direction considering Let It Die is a Dark Souls clone that got Suda51/Grasshopper major success.

Bugsnax update / expansion type thing.

Plus a musical game that looks like it'll play a lot like Oxenfree, lots of dialog choices and such but not much gameplay. Don't even know how to label them really.

Yeah but there have been so many of these now that just end up fizzling out quickly right after launch. It'll be unlikely to catch any real player base.

A new Star Ocean! I did not expect that. I never got in to the games, but I am happy fans are getting a new title that is not a remake.

Meh last couple one were terrible so I'd take a remake over an original game since they're sure to fuck it up royally.

Well that was a wet fart of a presentation. Oh well. I shall put my summoning circle away now.

Can you at least wait until the game is out before making such a judgement? I get it, I am sure more than enough fans are happy to get something instead of nothing. I did notice that the games takes a more Xenoblade and Phantasy Star Online look to it.

Are there even fans left? Last one barely sold anything and got mediocre review. Every entry sell less than the previous one despite gaming having grow exponentially since then. The choice isn't "new Star ocean or nothing", the choice is new star ocean or resource spent on something else and I'd rather the resource go toward new IP (with different people at the helm) but baring that I'd take a remake just cause at least they'd start with existing story/script/character so maybe they'd manage not to fuck up too much.

I thought about pcking up the Star Ocean games on PS4 because they were on sale but I looked up reviews and none of them had good things to say about the games, so I skipped it personally. I vaguely remember playing a PS2 Star Ocean game and thinking it was okay back in the day, but it isn't an RPG that stuck with me in any way at all.

I mean if this new one is good, then great. Nothing wrong with a good new jrpg. But like you say, the most recent track record for the series does not seem stellar.

"Are there any Streets of Rage fans or traditional brawler fans left?" I got asked that several times that back in the iMDB forum days.

I am sure Star Ocean fans still exists. Let's just wait and see what happens.

I just checked comment section in the video. Most fans are excited or genuinely happy, so they still exist.

So the major one for me was Star Ocean in this year I honestly thought the series dead and watching the trailer I respect it kept unapolagetic camp and hard tropes that most RPGs try to stray from but it goes full on in. Loving the environments and combat seems like a natural progression of the series.

First Class Trouble seems like the progression of deception games that Among Us got the craze starting so I like to see how this evolves and overall with a good friend group this game sounds like a good time.

King of Fighters lured me in top tier waifu in Dolores I will test out the beta but never get good like I do all fighting games.

Overall it was nice and short and I appreciate the variety being shown and I am liking the showcase showing off stuff that is just more than pumping polygons even the stuff like Let It Die chasing the current dragon got some unique takes to it.

Did anyone get weird vibes from that music game? It just felt like a really weird and like of manufactured pop group. I've never heard of them but they have a game being made to promote the music is strange.

The second game is worth player, it was remastered for PSP and they ported that version on PS4 but only in japan, so with this new game annoucnement maybe they'll finally bring the PS4 version to the west and that'll be worth picking up, maybe a PC version? But the last two are well at the bottom of the JRPG pile, unless you literally cannot find any other JRPG to play they're not worth touching.

The PS2 one was decent but a step back from 2 so it's not a surprise it didn't suck anyone in (it also has one of the lamest twist in the history of video game so has decidedly mix repuation).
