I think Xenoblade 2 is crap.
The combat and no other reason. That battle system from Xenoblade Chron 1, 2 and X is fucking awful and nobody can convince me otherwise. The player is reliant on uncontrolable AI party members to do specific attacks at specific times in order to correctly chain damage mutlipliers up and create situations for even bigger damages. Top that off with the combat strictly based off slow auto-attack economy and you are basically staring at characters on screen hoping they not only do the right attack, but also hope that you've got the resource built from auto-attacks high enough that you can use the attacks you need to continue the combat chain......THEN you need to hope that the NPC's continue the chain by using the correct attack in the correct order while you build your meter again.

It's incredibly bad.

The story and the characters are awesome from what I've seen. I just haven't been able to play those games long enough to see them through.
Well, it's nice to hear some people not parroting Simmon's opinions verbatim for once.

Not sorry for having an opinion buddy! Welcome to reality! Not everyone thinks the same as you!
There was a grammar mistake I corrected. What I meant to say was this:

Well, it's nice to hear some people not parroting Simmon's opinions verbatim for once.
I forgot to put "not" in front of parroting.

Except Xenoblade sucks.

Xenosaga on ps2 was good, though they were bog standard rpg's for the time.
Oh man Xenosaga I have not heard that name in so long. I don't remember much but I do remember being able to pause go and make a whole major sandwich and come back and watch a cutscene that was so long I forgot I was playing a game.

Death Stranding didnt invent the 45minute cut scene.

Xenosaga did it first.

Xenosage invented cinematic gaming. And true cinematic no pushing the left stick forward and watching something no you just watch it. I still remember my cousin asking me what this new anime and what channel it was on.

It was a great anime too!

Back in the day we had long cutscenes and we loved it!

Xenosaga really suffered from a bunch of bone headed decision when they made 2 (focusing on least interesting aspect/character of the story, completly change artstyle for no reason, ditching town and so on), then 3 had to wrap up something like 4 game worth of content in one game it felt really rushed because of that.

There's always a couple fans for anything no matter how obscure.
If someone was entertained by SO4/5 they'd be entertain by literally any other JRPG, so why not spend the money on a new IP/reviving a dead one (looking at you valkyrie profile)?

Familiarity and brand recognition. I am not one to judge, and I understand where the fans are coming from. Besides, Star Ocean was practically dead in the water, hence why they're bringing it back. This is nothing new with the gaming industry and is a double edge sword. Sometimes it's good to bring an IP back as long as care is put in to it, necessary, or lied dormant for years. Sometimes it's an in-name only "reboot/remake" no one was asking for and it might as well been a new IP or game. The 7th generation suffered from this a lot and the most. Like I said before, wait and see what happens.

I honestly expected Star Ocean to not come back after the miserable performance of the last game.

I did not expect it to come back either. Which makes it all the more heartwarming when I see all of those positive comments and excitement from the trailer on YouTube. A lot of fans clearly want another game, and are more than grateful to have it announced.

As someone who liked previous games in the series, it’s a welcome surprise as well. Looking forward to playing it when it comes out.

I like the concept of SO, the Star Trek as a JRPG thing the first game had. I just feel that what I've seen is that the execution hasn't been so hot, so I'd be totally on board if there was a SO game that ended up being as exciting as the premise. The first game looks like it kind of tried to do that before getting lost in a fantasy JRPG like all the others and I haven't tried the others.

Star Ocean 4 was also another honest attempt at being like Star Trek to, but it also got muddled into the fantasy part of it

SO2/3 did a bit more of the start trek thing in the later half of the game but they're still mostly fantasy. SO4 premise seem to be all in on the star aspect, but all that really means is that you travel over different fantasy planets by spaceship.

Rogue Galaxy is the best space adventure Jrpg ever made. So check that out if you haven't. it's available on ps4.

I want to cosign to this cause that was my jam and Level 5 could do no wrong in the PS2 era.

Also I do believe First Departure is available on the Switch if you want to go back to the series humbles beginnings. I was only what 6 at the time it dropped so the whole here is a fantasy setting then pow gotta your ass we in space easily amused me.

Was too grindy for me, setting up all the factory stuff and sub system for your weapon took forever for not much reward, I liked dark cloud more (and to a lesser extend dark cloud 2).
