I still don't understand that series. What's the point of the space sci-fi set dressing when all of the games takes place in a medieval fantasy world?
I can't speak for the older games, because I barely remember them myself, but this one looks like it doesn't have much medieval fantasy in it to begin with. It's going full sci-fi planetary exploration and space going by the trailer. The game definitely has a more Xenoblade and Phantasm Star look and feel to it. I do find it funny that a lot of AJRPG games are adapting from the Xenoblade series now.

Ah, that sounds a lot better then. I still remember renting a Star Ocean on PS2 and feeling like I'd been given a bait and switch.

If you want to see for yourself what the trailer for the new game looks like, it is on the first page. I have it posted somewhere in the middle.

Little Devil Inside looks fucking sick.
Now that does look interesting. I like how they literally made a game that appears to implement an actual tilt shift perspective. Cautiously optimistic the inventory system won’t bog it down.

Also, Death’s Door might be something -

I watched the demo for that but have no idea why it's called Little Devil Inside. OH! But I did just realize what the style reminds me of, it makes me think of Okage: Shadow King for the PS2.

Yeah that was always weird, maybe it was budgetary, like it might be a lot easier to make a fantasy forest than sci area? Or it could just be a crippling fear of trying to do anything too different, as the series went on the games became more and more formulaic, both from a story and gameplay point of view.

I really wish they would remake or just make a new Xenogears game. That had the best JRPG battle system EVER. And it was never ever ever used in any game ever again and i am so fucking bummed about it.

That sleazy announcer guy with the tux in the let it die game made me instantly think of a slightly fatter Randy Pitchford. I hope he was intentionally modeled after him cause that would be hilarious.

Damon from TSA and No More Heroes III is deliberately modeled after a former EA executive. So, who knows? Though I highly doubt the fat guy is modeled after Randy Pitchford.

I have not forgotten. You and another user on a different thread got in to a debate about the combat system. I can't say much, because the only time I ever played Xenogears was on a PS1 demo disc. 9 year old me was not exactly impressed, but I only cared for few RPGs to begin with. It's sad they never did the combat system like that ever again. I am sure they have their reasons, but at least you get games in the Xeno franchise. There are many JRPGs from the PS1 and PS2 era that were not so lucky.

Except Xenoblade sucks.
For a franchise that sucks, it's doing well, making a ton of money, and plenty of people are taking influence from it. I have no stake in this argument, but this is one of the rare times I heard someone say Xenoblade sucks. Though why do you consider the franchise bad? Simple curiosity.

I think Xenoblade 2 is crap.

The combat and no other reason. That battle system from Xenoblade Chron 1, 2 and X is fucking awful and nobody can convince me otherwise. The player is reliant on uncontrolable AI party members to do specific attacks at specific times in order to correctly chain damage mutlipliers up and create situations for even bigger damages. Top that off with the combat strictly based off slow auto-attack economy and you are basically staring at characters on screen hoping they not only do the right attack, but also hope that you've got the resource built from auto-attacks high enough that you can use the attacks you need to continue the combat chain......THEN you need to hope that the NPC's continue the chain by using the correct attack in the correct order while you build your meter again.

It's incredibly bad.

The story and the characters are awesome from what I've seen. I just haven't been able to play those games long enough to see them through.

Meh last couple one were terrible so I'd take a remake over an original game since they're sure to fuck it up royally.
The Original SNES one is the only one I've played. I was enjoying it until I got to the end and realized like a decent chunk of the game had been cut out to throw to you another planet with almost no lead up. It does feel like it could have been so much more though.

Are there even fans left? Last one barely sold anything and got mediocre review. Every entry sell less than the previous one despite gaming having grow exponentially since then. The choice isn't "new Star ocean or nothing", the choice is new star ocean or resource spent on something else and I'd rather the resource go toward new IP (with different people at the helm) but baring that I'd take a remake just cause at least they'd start with existing story/script/character so maybe they'd manage not to fuck up too much.
There's always a couple fans for anything no matter how obscure.

I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm the only fan of that Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery game and I'm okay with that. It's fucking weird(the question is not if LSD was used during production but how much) and I'm pretty sure it appeals only to me(because It's a weird prog-rock fantasy game where you fight the Album cover to Dark Side of the Moon, yes, that one, as a boss battle).
