Ah old Flynn, can always be trusted to say the quiet part loud for the hard of hearing among us.

Then again, that isn't such a rare trait around his ilk lately.

...

Talking of anti-vaxx Dr Stella Immanuel, a recent Las Vegas qanon/pro-covid event had her giving a typical anti-vaxx speech, except ending with her singing solo in front of these baffled republicans who may have just experienced their very first culture shock, so here's a remix of that very audio...

So Flynn is at once complaining about the First Amendment being violated and advocating for a violation of the First Amendment.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Republicans only care about the Constitution when they think it tells them they can do whatever they want.

I really don't get why Flynn's still such a relatively big name. He flopped hard as Trump's security advisor. In an already extremely chaotic administration he stands out as not lasting for even a month because he was too busy colluding with foreign powers, and getting Trump in trouble by lying about it. He was already thoroughly disgraced at the start of Trump's presidency but after his pardon Trump seems to have instantly taken Flynn back into his inner circle, and the maga crowd still seems to consider him a leader.

What does Flynn have that makes it worth the risk of attaching a literal traitor to your movement? Is he so uniquely smart of charismatic as to make him worth the risk?

1. The title "General" markets itself in a country that worships the idea of it's military.
2. He's seen as a Trump-associated martyr. The Repub base believes that all of the foreign power related stories are made up Democrat plots, so they count those crimes as a bonus for opinion.
3. He's an older, straight, cis, white, "Christian", male

Republicans only care about the Constitution when they think it tells them they can do whatever they want.

The constitution often gets treated as a religion of sorts when in fact it has been adjusted to fit the times just the same as religions have. I think the spirit of secularism is to just not treat anything that way, even things without mythological or supernatural elements to them.

Republicans engage in all forms of magical thinking as an outgrowth of their religiosity which is why they both treat the constitution as holy and at the same time cherrypick the holy hell out of it, only following the bits of it they like, much like how they treat the tenets of their religion.

Now, I can see the argument for saying the country founded by the europeans was based on christianity in some fashion and you can't extract that out of the dna of the country, but that doesn't have to be a good thing. You can agree with the fact that this is a christian country, but that's like agreeing that your uncle served time for running a meth lab, it's true, and you have to accept it, but it's not a great thing and we can do better.

I can certainly get behind the first two options, but its worth noting for option three that Trump spat out and betrayed plenty of older, straight white christian males when they stopped being useful to him. There's hardly any straighter, whiter Christian male than Pence and Trump destroyed his career and might have wanted him killed just because he couldn't abuse powers he didn't even have.

I cannot help but think the thing about people like Flynn is that they have their inclinations, but are kept mostly on the straight and narrow by being in organisations alongside individuals that tend to stick to the straight and narrow.

Unfortunately, once removed from that environment, well... we're seeing what happens.

What is this tingly feeling? It can't be hope, surely.

Anti-paywall torpedoes deployed. Also, "guilty" means "liable" in this sense, so fake news I guess.

A superior court in Connecticut granted a sweeping victory to the families of eight people killed in a 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., suing the far-right broadcaster and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars media outlet for defamation.

The judge in Connecticut ruled on Monday that because Mr. Jones refused to turn over documents ordered by the courts, including financial records, he was liable by default. The ruling combines with three previous rulings in Texas to grant the families of 10 Sandy Hook shooting victims four victories in four defamation lawsuits against Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones for years spread bogus theories that the shooting that killed 20 first graders and six educators was a government-led plot to confiscate Americans’ firearms and that the victims’ families were “actors” in the scheme.

The Sandy Hook families maintain that Mr. Jones profited from spreading lies about their relatives’ murders. Mr. Jones has disputed that, while for years failing to produce sufficient records to bolster his claims.

Juries in both states will next decide how much Mr. Jones should pay the families in damages, atop court costs. Those trials are scheduled for next year in both states.

Yeah, but Flynn kept shilling for Trump even after he got imprisoned. That's how he got pardoned after all, Flynn kept being useful.

"Capitalists HATE him!"
I am reminded of a guy who wrote with disgust and fury about some underwater welders demanding vast salaries from oil companies to fix their oil rigs. Because apparently it's okay for companies to strip wages to the bone when there's a labour surplus, but outrageously unfair for workers to negotiate salaries up where there's a labour shortage.

Higher wages equates to higher costs, and shouldn't those lower-class plebes want starvation-level wages, rather than cost me a few cents extra on things?!

Also as we found out in 2016 with Trump potentially being elected you're not gay or a lesbian if you vote anything other than democrat because those are now political ideologies and people who do vote republican but sleep with people of the same sex need to make a new identity. Or so the narrative went at the time.
Fuck off with that shit, I'm not even considered HETEROSEXUAL or AMERICAN because I didn't vote for Trump, so don't cry about having labels assigned to you based on who you vote for. I'm supposed to leave the country because I didn't vote for him, which is a lot tougher than finding some new identity.

Kinda the stupid point of it all though that identities means to be about who people sleep with becoming increasingly meaningless as they become political identities.

You can still claim to be a heterosexual Democrat you just can't claim to be a gay republican or so various groups tried to push.

New one for everyone

The section is like 5 seconds and is just Santa pulling out a smartphone to show his vaccine passport at border control that's it.

There's no "You must show your vaccine passport to enter stores or shop wit us." There's no "Please wear masks in store" just an about 5 second clip they're mad over.

Oh you can claim it. You probably just need an explanation about why you support a group that's directly out to get you.
