Whatever, just wash your hands.
I assume on Sanghelios?

Makes me wonder though. Cortana asks Atriox to stand down, and destroys Doisac when he didn't. So, did Cortana give a similar ultimatum to Thel about Sanghelios?
I was kinda hoping that after Halo 3, we would see more Elites hanging around and doing stuff.

Also, getting back into the swing of things with the thread.

Are there any main characters that you'd argue are just sexist representations?
Fucking Haydee.

But Ada is usually a spy and as a result she would likely be involved in going to fancy parties or blending in when shit goes down and she gets stuck having to do shit in the games. She was spying on Umbrella undercover in RE2 as well, which the outbreak happened and she got stuck with the dress.
So what's Ada's excuse for wearing it in the ass end of Spain where the only inhabitants are cultists and parasite ridden hillbillies?

40K continues to be a mistake.
I actually don't like 40K that much outside the webshow "If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device", which is where most of that artwork comes from since its a running joke the Captain General hates the Tau because Commander Shadowsun dumped him.

I thought I might share the first time I really started to think about the crappy portrayal of women in computer games. The year is 2003, and the game is Unreal 2: The Awakening. So, you're some sort of galactic commando/policeman with their own ship to scoot around dealing with miscreants, and because reasons you have on board the greatest military mind in the human race, who decided to pack up and abscond from their job as genius in residence at high command. And let's take a look at that person...

View attachment 5198

Are you fucking kidding me?
Oh, yes. Aida. Only reason I got through the game. Everytime I was ready to quit I saw the sweet Aida. She made me try harder. Get it, harder. LMAO.

For one there’s the OP topic of Aloy herself, but since you also mentioned Abby,

Can we really say that’s a feminine look? Apparently it’s mostly Sony doing this in the west, but it’s also happened in prior generations and is certainly a more prominent trend after the me-too and Anita S. drama.

"Sony is concerned the company could become a target of legal and social action," an unnamed Sony official told the Journal. Business Insider has reached out to Sony for further comment on the new policies, and will update if we hear back.

Sony's home market of Japan has a reputation for having a higher tolerance for erotic games — games that might be considered risqué, or outright offensive, in the United States.

Having said that, it’s always been kind of a multifaceted issue though between cultures and societal norms though, even back in classic generations.

Eh, I'd say it's an uncomplicated look for the post-apocalypse. Not exactly a lot of specifically masculine or feminine looks for anybody in that game.

Would like to ask what specifically is unfeminine about Aloy though.
Side note, I love this article because it entirely ignores how marketing has always been different between regions. But I digress

While censorship vs localization of Sony specifically can be a fun topic to talk about, it's not exactly related to the supposed prevalent defeminization of female characters in video games in general. That said:

In light of the pizzagate/Q nonsense floating around the US right now, would you want to have a smorgasbord of aggressively sexualized high school girls floating around, especially if you know a solid chunk of gamers are gonna make fun of it on social media anyway? I mean, a huge chunk of the American political establishment went after Mass Effect for being a lesbian sex simulator. Citing #metoo was probably a dodge, Xbox doesn't tend to have a strong Japanese install base to begin with, and Nintendo has a shield where they're considered a wholesome Mario machine so the dinosaurs in Congress don't look to hard.

The streaming excuse makes sense to me though, having watched more than a few streams where vtubers are panic-scrambling to censor their screens to not get their streams/videos demonetized. Being done badly is a different argument than being done at all.

DoaX3 specifically was probably just K-T trying to drum up controversy sales for a games that was gonna sell like garbage. Like, seriously, it was months between the "we'll release it in the west if there's enough support" and Play-Asia's "it's because of SJWs" comment that got everybody fired up.

Yeah, even certain non-gamers could tell that K-T were being full of shit. If they knew it wasn't going to sell, why couldn't they just go with that instead of trying to scapegoat people who had nothing to do with anything?

Just say, this game is not going to make enough money. Sales dropped/decline sharply after our second game, so we're not going to waste time localizing it. There's plenty of Japanese companies that have said the same thing before in the past when a game was not going to get localized. Fan service or not. You would have still had some hardcore fans that were upset, but it wouldn't have been drove into a frenzy.

I mean, it worked out great for Play-Asia. Really got their rage dollar on that one, even if they don't get my dollars anymore

I tried ordering through Play Asia at two different times for certain imports. The website would not take either of my cards. Even though I had plenty of money on them and neither were expired. I had to go through Amazon just to get the imported games I wanted.

I love how video game companies with mountains of sexual harassment complaints think they have the right to censor. In my opinion PlayStation, and Xbox should be about quality vs censorship. If there is a sexy female or male character in a really good game they shouldn't stop it from being released.

And they generally don't, weird occasional lens flare notwithstanding. The vast majority of the "censorship" discussion is based around c-tier anime fan-service trash. (Which, I grew up watching 80-90s anime OVAs, I don't have a particular problem with c-tier anime fan-service trash, it is what it is)

But, again, this thread is theoretically about a presumed want of de-feminization of female characters in mainstream games

Yes but there has been a culture of puritanism coming from both men, and women. If you tell people on Reddit Games or gaming about Genshin Impact they make fun of you and call it disgusting, and I just saw a Reddit thread where someone stated that they played Genshin Impact, and the group they were with immediately called that person a pedo and made fun of them in a public mall. It sucks, If I say I play Battlefield 2042 I get different moral reactions vs if I say I play modded Skyrim or Genshin.

That is messed up. I don't like the game, but I'm not going to go out of my way to harass people that enjoy it or our fans of the IP. The people who actually went out more way to physically harass a person, needs to get arrested and all kicked in the groin. They clearly have nothing going on in their lives, if that's all they're doing with their lives. You have to be a really pathetic sack of shit to do all that, and still claim that you have the high morality.

Was Haydee ever actually a character rather than just a mass of curves and plastic that looked like a blender had watched too much PornHub? (I know she looked more human in the second game, but my knowledge of the second game extends to the fact that there is a second game.)
B-Cell sold it as a character so that's how I classify it.

Well there's your problem

Look, you can go to any social media site out there to dredge up any opinion you want to support or rail against. That's just the nature of there being millions of people.

What it's not is any indication of some sort of wider social trend or "culture of Puritanism". I know this because I follow more than a few fan artists who do a *lot* of Genshin Impact stuff and...well, they're popular and they don't exactly have legions of people come into their mentions calling them pedophiles. Even the ones that do porn

If you find a pocket of people where the opinion of a thing doesn't mesh with what yours, that doesn't mean that said pocket of people represents "society".

Abby from TLoU2 is a particularly good example of a strong female character.

Yuk-yuk

Really though, it’s kinda ironic that the brand of feminism currently pushing its way through the industry is doing its damndest to strip as much femininity out of women as they can, to the point they may as well either be male or androgynous. It also says something about how childishly far behind the curve the west has remained in its attitudes about sexual representations in media and pop culture. It’s like a pendulum swinging back and forth from one extreme to the other without any semblance of balance or rationality. I’m glad the more degrading forms of porn and smut mags are far less visible than they used to be, but when any attention brought to the female form is considered shameful or degenerate in itself then how is it really helping young, impressionable women? It also doesn’t help that decent parental guidance seems to be a dwindling commodity.
I can sum it up very concisely for you.

Femininity is considered inferior. We just aren't a culture that rewards it's values. For all the protestations of us being a "gynocracy" from dipshits or claims of love for "tradwifes" by Proud Boys and other similar mouthbreathers, in the end, masculine values is what gets the rewards and glory in this culture.

Just don't use reddit lmao. The majority of default subredditors are radical liberals, and most of them are porn addicts and self-hating weebs in antithesis to the fact.
It sucks, If I say I play Battlefield 2042 I get different moral reactions vs if I say I play modded Skyrim or Genshin.
Here's a bizzare thing I noticed with reddit and "modded" Skyrim. It's not socially acceptable to use sex mods for Skyrim, but it is socially acceptable to use WickedWhims for the Sims 4, even though the content is the same and is hosted on the same site.

Since the Sims is a girl game (despite 40% of players being male), women use the mod and redditors are less likely to associate it with sexual deviancy due to benevolent sexism. Now I could go on and on, but I'm a coomer so I don't care, and you can't stop me from downloading whatever mod I want.
