Why You Should Have Your Eye On Florida

A phrase I've come up with during my time in Florida (I've since moved a few weeks ago) is something I think perfectly sums up a segment of the Republican Party, which Florida is rife with. It is such.

"Malignant Freedom".

Like a Tumor, the idea of "Freedom above all Else" worms its way into your brain and starts overriding your personality. Meanings of Words and ideas change. "Freedom for all soon" becomes "Freedom for all who think like me". Florida is leading that way.

As California is the rubric of how Liberal States should comport themselves, Florida has become the Conservative Rubric.

Why is this important? If anyone of the things that Trump has been accused (or he has outright admitted to) of leads to a trial or the 14th Amendment being put into place... DeSantis will be your 2024 Republican Presidential Candidate.

He is sane enough to win over some Centerist who abandoned Trump during the 2020 election, but still are Republican to their core. With Republican Gerrymandering already predicted to give seats back to Republicans in Four States, you should know who has a good likelihood of being your next President.

Could not agree more. Florida is basically the current hotbed of the worst of modern conspiratorial bullshit while also being accepted wholesale by the republican party in power there. The majority of qanon-believing/propagating congressional candidates are sourced from there also. It is a cursed land. But with influence no-one can afford to just ignore, sadly. There has been a push for DeSantis to be the trump replacement for some while now. It's not like he isn't trying so hard for that role either. But since the last trump rally, there appears even more concerningly competent candidates able to whip up their frothing crowds with low-effort lip service to their most dumbest, dangerous beliefs. So am not sure if DeSantis has enough to withstand that kind of challenge yet. Neither option looks healthy regardless.

Florida has become the test kitchen for the Republican party's worst ideas. And yes, DeSantis should be watched out for. He has the ambitions and unlike Trump he's just enough of a weenie to convince swing voters he can't be all that bad because swing voters are the dumbest motherfuckers in America.

Remember kids, it's actually the democrats that are bad and all things bad done by republicans is either a copy of democrat behaviour or forced behaviour by democrats.

Maybe.

I can't help but feel that presidential primaries have resulted in the spectacular faceplants of a great number of expected titans. Sometimes people can be very effective at the level they are currently operating at, but they're already at top gear and can't hack a tougher contest. Even if they technically can, that level of national exposure can be cruel indeed: weaknesses revealed and exploited, strategic errors, missing a zeitgeist...

California sucks, more people are leaving the state than entering it, the housing prices are high because of bad zoning by racist & classist liberal boomers. That said if you go to Florida you accept the fact that your home will get knocked down by a hurricane, a sinkhole, or in the future climate change which is why I think many young people are leaving it. No wonder the crazies all go there.

That said I think DeSantis if he becomes the Republican nominee, he will win by a mile unless Joe Biden or the democrats improves their polling. Given Afghanistan, the high cost of living, and the reduction in the child tax credit Biden and his party aren't looking good for either the midterms or the general.

Given CRT which strikes a nerve with White Americans, and republican hyper politicization of school boards which is supposedly effective given random stories in random high schools that teach some progressive group-think means republicans want control of what the next generation thinks which is a fool's folly, the young are always going to rebel.

People voting for Democrats or Republicans are the dumbest motherfuckers in America. You actually think either of these parties does what's in the best interest of the people.

Here's what happens when Dems have all the power, they do the same shit you all complain endlessly about Republicans doing. THEY ARE THE SAME PARTY.

A lot of folks from my island live in Florida...

(Not my personal family mind you, just Puerto Ricans in general)

Except one is completely taken over by a cult of personality, rife with conspiracy, and attempted a coup.

To be fair, that's quite a recent turn of events. However what the video seems to omit is the difference in policies on the "social" axis.
While economically speaking democrats tend be all talk, on socio-ethical issues there seems to be a real difference. (probably because rich donors and big corporations don't care about abortion, gay marriage, trans rights, etc. They just want their tax cuts)
Anyway, when are Democrats going to undo Trump's tax cuts for the rich they complained so much about?

It wouldn't pass, and even if by some miracle it did, it would guarantee them an election defeat (2022 and possibly also 2024).

Politics is often about picking your battles: there's no point picking a Pyrrhic one that will lose the war.

I'd also say that the Dems are pro-Trump tax cuts. So it would even pass the house.

Once a tax cut has been made, it's nigh on impossible to reverse it. I'm not just talking about America here.

We had problems leading up to the GFC where we had no national debt (in fact we had billions in the bank saved up) and the government kept giving out tax cuts and hand outs. When the GFC happened in was impossible to repeal any of these. Even a tax on companies that earnt over $10 billion was repealed almost immediately. Taxing franking was also poison and I doubt many knows what that even means. Dont worry, it only effect .5% of the population

Any tax is bad mmmkay. Especially those on the rich

Oh I know it wouldn't pass, because democrats don't want to pass it. Guaranteeing election defeat is an easy excuse. They could repeal it to replace it with a tax cut that truly benefits the middle class (and below) the most and isn't liked by "Donald Trump and his rich friends" (as he claimed about his tax cuts).
This would be hugely popular among the middle class and below, who still are more numerous than the rich and very rich.

Vote for us and we'll do X.

Oh no see, if we do X we'll lose the next election. But be sure to vote for us next time too.

Modern democracy is wonderful.

Maybe if you make positive changes at the beginning of a term, have a couple of years for voters to see the material benefits of the changes they might vote for you again.

Or just be fucking honest. The reality didn't change before and after an election. The same problems existed then and now. If you can't feasibly make a change don't campaign on making that change like a shitty lying gifting **** who's getting fabulously wealthy off the back of their political career while people in your country freeze and starve.

That's literally the fucking point to make you think the other side is the devil.

The most poignant lines from Don't Look Up:
There's three types of American people.
There are you, the working class.
Us, the cool rich, and then them.

[people booing]

I'm sorry, but we need them.
We need them because
you build us up to fight them.

Out of interest, who do you vote for?
I vote for the person with the best platform, which is almost never a D/R. I went to every candidate's website when I voted and every D/R's platform was basically "the other guy sucks, vote for me".

When the rich will allow them to, which is never.
And how do you change that? By voting them all out.
