I've seen this video, and as someone who plays the piano, it is actually easy to fake it, as he claims, without the actual skill to play the instrument/read music fluently. Of course, there's always the required skill to recognize where and when to place your fingers, but music is quite mathematical, and with a basic-enough understanding of the keys and their relation to one another, one can pull off a melody without actually knowing how to play. Not to say it takes no talent, but I think a lot more people could "fake it" than they realize. Will it be Mozart-level of talent and ability? No. But you can pull off a riff that might impress an unexpecting listener. When those people start requesting specific songs, your ruse will likely fall apart.

I have a friend who loved playing piano but he said he could barely read sheet music or musical notation. He basically just got a feel for it and it works. I've heard quite a few people play this way, actually. As someone who isn't musical at all, I'm somewhat envious.

That skill is a bit different. Playing by ear (one of my strong suits, but not enough so that I'd call it a talent) and learning the, I dunno, "mechanics" of how keys aurally relate to one another to create pleasing harmonies and melodies are two different things. Not that the two are mutually exclusive, but one can do one without any proficiency in the other.

My cousin loves piano music, but cannot play the piano. I offered him the opportunity to "play" by suggesting he improvise a melody on the black keys as none of them are immediately next to each other and don't clash, so he could "fake" a little tune of his own making. He loved it. I don't really like objectifying the instrument thusly as it truly is a beautiful instrument and the idea that "anyone" can do it sans the passion and inspiration kinda brings the lights up during the romance, but it's true. That said, I don't think an album of purely mathematical piano music would do very well. Makes for a nice parlor trick, though; might get you laid.

Yeah there are quite a few pop songs where simple melodies sound more complex than they really are. Coldplay’s Clocks and Counting Crows’ Colorblind would be examples.

Ive heard it said piano’s difficulties begin where other instruments’ capabilities end, and that seems rather poignant. I’ve never tried, but I’m sure an organ even goes a step or two further than that (no pun).

Anyways, this is rather chilling footage (also no pun) -

I'm not a multi-instrumentalist, so I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it wouldn't surprise me if true. Point in case, this orchestral masterpiece from Interstellar (below) reimagined with only two hands (furthest below.)

I would hope if there’s ever alien contact and they’re the not-so-friendly-we’re-going-to-dominate-your-asses type, the above might help persuade them.

About 10 years ago I decided I wanted to watch the Dr. Slump anime, the series that Akira Toriyama wrote before Dragon Ball. Turned out that only 50 episodes had been translated and no more was currently being worked on. Today I decided to do another check and discovered that 5 years ago someone else took up the job and has been doing about 1 episode a month and is currently at 112/243. At this rate it will be another 10 years before the series is fully translated. By that time I'll be 40 and will have been waiting half my life to watch the Dr. Slump anime in it's entirety.

Been learning a lot of disturbing shit about people whom I was only casually aware of the depravity of their crimes, but it's always worse than first assumed. Though it's all only talking description, massive content warning for anyone thinking of listening. Also wtf, Whoopi Goldberg, what the actual fuck??

Especially this messed up failure of policing yet again from the UK when it comes to wealthy powerful creepo predators.

Did not know of these depressing cases, yet more creepazoid pathetic guys murdering who they can't "own"

Classic Disneyland family murder horror story?

A lot of horrible information to make you feel broken inside. You're welcome. I'll be here all week. (I won't)

Today I learned that the long pole in the front of Pave Hawk Blackhawk helicopters (not gonna lie; I Googled "helicopters with long pole in front" to find out that's what they're even called) is a refueling probe for inflight refueling. Have no idea what I actually thought they were as I'd only seen them a couple of times, but a part of me wanted them to be used like lances in helicopter dogfights. I'm also a childish idiot who watches too many shit movies that allow such absurdities to enter my brain. Maybe it's not too late to get on the writing team for Fast and Furious 10; they'll do it, I'm sure.
