So, to be clear, you want to expose children below the age of consent to sexual content so that they can be intellectually prepared to have sex with substantially older adults the day it becomes legal for them to do so, if they so choose?
You know, for someone who talks about empathy and claims to be being misrepresented a lot..

But yes. I'm just going to call your stupid little bluff on this one. I think we should expose children to "sexual content" (as laughable as that concept is in this context) in order to intellectually prepare them for the point at which they cease to be children. That is what the age of consent is. It's the point at which you are no longer subject to certain kinds of laws that protect children because you're not considered a child any more. If you aren't going to bother educating children before they hit that point, then what is the point? You may as well open a scuba diving school at the bottom of the ocean.

More importantly though, because the age of consent is primarily a matter of child protection, it's not necessarily the age at which a child can legally have sex with another child. In the UK, that age is actually 13. Many children will be sexually active before they reach 16, and most will be to some degree curious about sex. If you are a child who is curious about sex, and the adults around you won't talk to you openly about sex. Who are you going to turn to and ask about it?

The answer, overwhelmingly, is the porn industry.

And I'm not anti-porn by any stretch of the imagination. But in terms of what's going to give a developing child a healthy view of sexuality, porn isn't it. Porn is designed to get adults off efficiently by pandering to self-indulgent fantasies. It can be addictive, it can make people unhappy, it can leave people with very dysfunctional views of sex and relationships. If you don't teach your children about sex except maybe that it's bad and gives you diseases and that they shouldn't think about it until they turn 25, the best case scenario is that porn will teach them about it. The worst case scenario is that predators will.

Hell, my parent's took the cowards way out and just left books about puberty laying around. Better than learning from porn but still wholly inadequate, even when combined with the school's wholly inadequate sex ed class.

If kids in my class had easy access to something like Sex Ed 120%, there'd've been much safer sex, and probably less of it in general, and more consent

Can't have that though, they actually frankly discuss sex myths, how porn lies, how contraception works and the many different kinds, menstruation in general, more sex myths and the common lies/half truths people will use to get others to have sex, body positivity stuff, lgbt stuff, and because it's Japanese, the pros and mostly cons of circumcision

Turns out Japanese sex ed is as bad or worse than a lot of USA sex ed, just from a different source of apathy. The books were really interesting to read from that perspective

It's also made anal bleaching a thing and popularised labioplasty as a cosmetic procedure. Some less-than-scrupulous fuckers are making mad bank from this sort of shit (but then haven't fuckers profitted from making people feel bad about themselves?)

It's not a stupid bluff. We have established where the disagreement lies, and honestly probably made more progress as a board than in the vast majority of discussions. The argument ceased to be about perceived bigotry the moment people started saying we should be teaching kids how to have more pleasurable sex, and you were the last holdout. You all have taken a position on sexuality and sexual morality that would be rejected by the vast majority of society, regardless of sexuality or religion, and I am more than content to let that stand until such a time in the future that you all need to be reminded of this.

So, what're the odds some billionaire funds a new news channel now that Newsmax has gone "woke"?

At least they draw the line at literal blood libel? I guess?

The argument never ceased to be about bigotry.

The book you are talking about is so entirely wholesome and unobjectionable that it's honestly quite annoying. My parents used to give me more explicit sex-ed books when I was a kid in the 90s. There are thousands of similar books with similar content aimed at kids the same age, except that those books are about straight sex and those books have never ended up on any kind of banned books list.

If you don't want to admit why this one is, and if you don't want to take the time to look up why there was a campaign to ban it or what the people trying to ban it were motivated by, that's fine. I've never doubted your limitless capacity for self-deception.

You all have taken a position on sexuality and sexual morality that would be rejected by the vast majority of society, regardless of sexuality or religion, and I am more than content to let that stand until such a time in the future that you all need to be reminded of this.
I am also perfectly happy to let that stand, because I don't think you have the slightest, tiniest clue what the societal consensus on sexual morality actually is and I think you're going to be sorely disappointed.

There's a mass movement of people protesting this sort of content going on, and even all of you instinctively rejected the suggestion that any of these books are explicit material before pivoting to "they are and that's a good thing".

Oh ok they're just saying it openly now.

CitationFrom the October 20, 2022, edition of Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight

TUCKER CARLSON (HOST): So, how does Katie Hobbs plan to win? Well this week, Hobbs, who is again the secretary of state of Arizona -- in charge of elections -- announced that thousands of voters mistakenly received a ballot that had only federal races on it. Now, there's no proof this was deliberate, but it kind of undercuts the whole "election denier attack" when you send out thousands of faulty ballots a few weeks before the election.

So as we said, assuming that all votes are counted -- and we should never take that on faith. We should never take that on faith. This is a democracy, we have an absolute right to have it proven to us, that the election was fair. If it is fair, Kari Lake's going to win.
Can't embed video of it due to different player, but it's in there. Really hoping Kari Lake isn't voted in, she is concerningly media competent for a qanon grifter.

Yes, yes. Everyone remembers McMartin. Satanic Panic. War on Drugs. War on Terror. CRT. Crime rates being high in 'soft on crime Dem states' when the opposite is generally true. Hell, a journalist got fired from the Hill just for suggesting that the Israeli government was treating the Palestinians poorly

We are all used to this by now.

And so. It begins.

"Need people there to help my people" sounds kinda exactly like they're connected to the same group.

Didn't they always just say it openly? The 2020 ''fraud'' theory also hinged solely on Trump not having won.

Sort of, but only in that typical way of solely admitting through their own blatant action while their words still dance around claims of fairness, despite how obvious it was to the non-indoctrinated. Now their words are starting to realise maybe all that dancing was not needed.

He's got an appeal to go. And in the US, if you're rich enough, you can appeal all the way to the Supreme Court, where outcomes are decided solely by political inclination.

I'd be surprised if he saw a jail cell.

I had a professor called Alexander Wendt, the most cited International Relations Professor in the field, and whenever he talked about UFOS, people laughed at him. Well, I am not laughing now, this is serious. I hope our governments have a strategy regarding this.
